415 MEDIA EXCLUSIVE...

Another media figure leaves industry for PR gig; KGO's Burkhart headed to KCBS as Assistant ND...

Veteran KCBS and respected street reporter, Anna Duckworth, is leaving the station to work for BART as one of its spokespersons, sources tell me.

Duckworth hasn't told KCBS management yet but is expected to make an announcement formally next week.

This sort of story is becoming contagious.

The hard-working, cool, Duckworth began her broadcast career here in 1994; she's had TV stints at KPIX and KRON.

Speaking of KCBS, I've learned, through a spy near the Battery media gulch, that current KGO Radio newsman, Bret Burkhart was seen inside the KCBS newsroom  schmoozing with current ND, Jennifer Seelig, and might be become Assistant News Director. Nothing is official yet but Burkhart is a respected news veteran and wants out of the KGO quagmire; doesn't everybody?

Uh, yeah.

  2. That's about what she's good for. Anna D is one of the dumber people I've worked with in the industry, and that's saying something.

    1. One cannot accept in other what they cannot accept in themselves. You are projecting your own inadequacies onto her because you cannot accept that you are dumb, also. I'll bet a lot of people are "dumb" to you.

  3. Can't blame Duckworth. I would do the same.
TV News is losing it's audience.

    1. Plus a, I would think, well funded public-ish pension...take it if you can get it!

    2. This has been going on in other markets for years. I can't tell you how many folks from the local big three in Cleveland (WKYC/WEWS/WJW) ultimately ended up public sector. Remember Kristina Abernathy from Weather Channel? Yup...she's director of communications for Cobb County in Georgia.

It's real common. After a certain age, they're all looking for security.

  4. I can't blame her for following the money.

BART is the nationally recognized overachiever when it comes to spending/wasting the public's tax dollars, so why not get in on it with an overly generous contract?

  5. Management DOES know. There was a fond farewell with cake on her last day at the station.

  6. I've always really liked Bret, have felt sorry for him having to schmooze with many of the current idiot hosts. He is so much better than KGO and glad if he is finding a new home..
