A KGO-TV News crew were robbed Monday night outside SF City Hill by three men who took a camera and tripod from the pair as they were about to do a live shot for the 6 PM News.
Reporter Lyanne Melendez and a KGO staffer, Cathy Cavey, were not hurt in the robbery.
The men apparently came up from behind the news truck and grabbed the camera and tripod even though it was connected to the truck by a cable.
The thieves then took off in a black Acura and got away.
SFPD officers were on scene and are investigating.
What color were the perps?
ReplyDeleteWe allll know.
DeleteThey were rainbow colored..and had little unicorn horns...little pink feet...glitter.
DeleteI would expect the cameras used by news crews are pretty high end and hard to sell? Where could they pawn them off? Perhaps the porn industry? Definitely not other newscasts somewhere in some city?
ReplyDeleteThis market has the highest rate of theft from the media anywhere in the country. Every news gathering TV station has had equipment stolen, many times in a "smash and grab" fashion right from a reporter's lap. It's happened at gunpoint, as well. Yes, the cameras are high-end. However, the $4000 price tag only matters to the organization that paid full price. If you're looking for quick money, you'll take far less. In many cases, they're also making off with more than just cameras and tripods.
DeleteNow KGO-TV knows real crime.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how fast they change from liberal to conservative.
Only low life's can make a fad out of a crime. They don't even know what to do with a 20G camera.
ReplyDeleteNice to hear Lyanne and co worker are fine.
Oh, let me guess. The perps where white just like every security tv commercial.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been here in a while. The racism and misogyn kept me away. See nothing has changed. I notice there isn't widespread publication of the white man who planned an Xmas terrorist attack on Pier 39. Does that mean he's not really white or just crazy since there's a trend for white men to plead nutso to violent crime.
