She is one of those I would expect to leave ABC if they are acquired by Sinclair. Keep in mind that both Brit Hume and Chris Wallace were at ABC during the glory days. History doesn't exactly repeat itself but does occasionally rhyme.
Someone please tell me why KTVU is running a promotion saying "It's all about you," when it clearly isn't ... it's all about them ... endlessly showing video of them ... endless exposition of who they are, what they do, how they do it ... and they keep telling me "It's all about you." It's not all about me ... it's all about them. They aren't showing photos or video of me ... they are showing photos and videos of them. It's not all about me, it's all about them! Who do they think they're kidding!
My wife and I have only lived in this market since 2008 but I have to say there is a shallowness about their news. As residents of SoCal, we used to like KTLA before all the changes and WFAA (ABC affiliate) during the decade we lived in Dallas.
Every television station has tried those promotional campaigns that are "heart felt," and/or "sensitive to the community." They are transparent failures, EVERY time.
I can think of two TV promotions that are, in any way, memorable ...
- The "Circle Seven" team riding into town, in the old-west ... because it was funny and entertaining
- The KRON TV "Newshounds" promotion, that featured the reporters and anchors holding giant paper-mache dog heads ... because it was so stupid.
I thank you, Rich, for reminding people about Cecelia Vega. I have told my wife several times, that it is quite dramatic how Cecelia Vega left KGO, and ended up being one of the top dogs at the "Big Show", the network. The thing is also, that she totally looks a lot better too! She is better looking, and she has developed a strong credibility. You know, when a major event happens, like 9/11, Kennedy getting shot, etc, one wants someone at the network anchor desk, who has credibility. Obviously Walter Cronkite was someone at the top of that list, then Dan Rather. Others on the list, Charles Gibson, Peter Jennings, David Brinkley, and even, the newest upstart, David Muir. But Cecelia Vega is quickly gaining the same level of credibility, and I could see her certainly being there on-set, when the next major event takes place.
My word! How did she do it? Her cocktail dress isn't cut to her naval, she's not wearing trashy makeup, nor earrings that dangle to her shoulders. Does she have any selfies online?
In the nearly ten years we have lived here, one of the things I had to learn very quickly is that the adults are not in charge. One of Bourdain's friends said of San Francisco that the toleration for silliness is very high. The seemingly constant flow of protests for vegetable rights and God knows what else...it just goes on and on but won't do that forever. At some point the people who really run things (the bankers) will step in and that is about to happen.
I was told just last week by a retired CFO that no one in the startup community wants to actually run a company. The dream is to have a pump and dump which is generally what we have up here. Our entire economy in this region has become nothing but a giant bubble fed by crazy kids and foreigners providing cheap labor and then cheap money which if we are to believe anything at all from Wall Street is about to go away. Read up on John Taylor who supposedly had a very good interview with Trump last week. BIG changes are coming. If the interest rate according to the Taylor Rule (research it) is to be three times higher than what it presently is, just what do you think that does to our residential real estate market which is what everything here seems to be built on? We will have a savagely cruel economic downturn here, especially if the new tax code no longer allows deducting state and local income taxes from Federal. Trump's people when questioned about this say the red states have subsidized blue states' ability to do this for far too long. I would say that elections have consequences...and this time, pretty damn consequent they will be at that.

ReplyDeleteYou idiot Sinclair is buying local stations not the network
DeleteIt would not surprise me in the least if Sinclair ended up with the whole thing minus ESPN.
DeleteIsn't Sinclair attempting to buy Tribune??
DeleteHey, dork, nothing about that rhymes.

DeleteI see a little of "Backstory" in what they are doing. KRON came up something unique...the other side and this is who we are, which I really enjoy.

DeleteThe entire bay area is wrapped around KTVU's finger.
Guess you didn't know she's also a former reporter at the Chronicle.

ReplyDeleteCecelia, taken from us much too soon. Why do the goods ones go first? Party on,Cecelia!
ReplyDeleteAnd Press Democrat, Santa Rosa.
ReplyDeleteThis is the gal then ND Kevin Keeshan stated "had limited talent." Maybe that's one reason why Disney dumped him!

If her dress were cut to the naval, I'm sure there would be a Marine there guarding it.
