Latest Odds Of Giants' Broadcasters Next 'On Assignment'; Miller Leads Pack; Update: Flemming Wins

Image result for SF Giants broadcasters

MILLER: 2-1: Pittsburgh series next week likely because with Giants out of race, lowly Pirates, early week makes Miller more apt to take a day trip away from ballpark on coast where he lives. I smell "on assignment" Adios Pelota!!!

FLEMMING: 4-1: Flem has been hauling a lot of (family) load lately --preoccupied with ESPN commitments (he's on short list too for permanent "SNB" gig) and helping out b/c of Kuiper/Miller absenteeism. #####!!!

KUIPER: 10-1: a longshot --took off San Diego series (he was "on assignment", but more likely part of beer sessions with wife at home and planning late-season BBQ with family on Racine, Wisc farm telling ball dude stories)

KRUKOW: 25-1: Kruk is already working shortened season and thus, an "on-assignment" seems distant and off the beaten path...unless, of course, he and Miller decide to attend wacky "MLB app" that tells the MPH of hit off the bat of opposing and home team player that Miller announces every batter.

**WE'VE GOT A WINNER!

Dave Flemming is "on assignment."

  1. I say it will be Flemming, in the next few days.

Another question: how long will their team's chances for being competitive remain "on assignment?" For the Giants, the current situation doesn't look like a hiccup. It looks like the early phase of a chronic barf-fest.

    1. Hordes of ticket buying fans will start going on assignment, for long periods.

    2. Damn, Rich let 15 comments through on this thread while at the same time censoring anything negative about Pat Thurston on the other. And this jabroni wants donations?

  2. Best case scenario: they ALL go on assignment at the same time.

  3. Did anyone notice the latest Amy G. caper?

During Monday night's telecast Amy was in the stands (in an empty seat by the way) interviewing some nobody about an upcoming rugby event at AT&T. Totally oblivious to what was happening in the game, she and her guest kept talking and talking and talking while a Cleveland player just hit a home run and was rounding the bases. Did I fail to mention she just kept talking and talking and talking? The camera was watching the play and home run trot, but not Amy!

Duane and Mike were silent as church mice, unable to get a word in about what just happened. Only when Miss G. decided to take a breath were the announcers able to describe the action.

This was a new low for the Giants in general and her in particular.

    2. 95 games in, and the Giants have lost 59 of them. They're only 29 1/2 games out of first place! The luck Amy G was supposedly bringing the team has apparently been exhausted.

    3. Someone made a comment on here once that she was apparently VERY cold while broadcasting one night at the Giants game. So cold in fact that you could see everything. That's how the Giants will get eyeballs now, maybe they can even sell commemorative t-shirts. :)

  4. Nobody really cares. They're so bad. it just doesn't matter.

  5. Giants need a new look on the field but they also a new sound in the booth! replace the whole broadcast booth! boring! stale! they were listenable only when Giants were winning World Series crowns but now we hear them for how tired and predictable they all really are.

    1. So true @5:46 PM - I'm so tired of "in the squaaaat",
"gamer babes", and "grab some pine, meat."
How about getting some new material, MEAT??

    2. yep, that is why they are continually rated / voted by numerous sites as the #1 or #2 best broadcast crews in baseball.

    3. Which sites are you talking about @4:34 PM??

  6. They should all go "on assignment"...forever.

  7. I don't have a problem with their being on assignment. Except for Dave, all of them are in their mid-60's.

  8. Amy once interviewed cookie monster during a segment...that was her career low for sure. HAHA!

  9. Lindsey Nelson never took a day off to go "on assignment." He was as durable as the polyester his loud plaid jackets were made of,

  10. Anonymous 3:09: The same thing happened several times when Erin Andrews, then with ESPN, had the 'interview' gig for Sunday Night Baseball. Jon Miller, back when 'On Assignment' meant working, didn't appreciate the interruptions. They had a bad habit of interviewing some player's mom, yet didn't always do that when the player in question was batting. On the plus side, even though Miller was rendered speechless, so was Joe Morgan.

  11. Giants "fans" only care about the next upcoming promotion, whether or not they can wear their Panda hats again and whatever publicity bullshit the team comes up with. They're too fucking dense to see through the smoke. As for the announcers, they should know they're the lifeline to the team for the fans. That's why Harry Caray, Mel Allen, Vin Scully and Russ Hodges (Giants fans, he was a good announcer -- way better than Jolly Ol' Jonny) became identified with their teams. Giants fans only identify with the latest gimmick the team comes up with to take away from how shitty they are. Give the Giants credit, they have the fans right where they want them: zombied and brain dead.

  12. Couple of things here:

    1) Yeah, the Giants stink this year, and it's not a ton of fun to watch them lose way more often than they win, and I don't tune in to watch every inning of every game each night. Big deal. They've stunk for many of the seasons that I've cheered for them. They've also won three World Series this decade, something I never thought they would achieve even once in my entire lifetime. Oh, and they play in one of the two or three nicest ballparks in the league. Take it for what it is, and if you don't like it, don't tune in or attend. As Jeff Kent once said, "enjoy the game." They've earned a free pass on a couple of sucky seasons.

    2) Try spending a few years in another MLB city listening to their local announcing bozos before complaining about the Giants' crew. There are a few that are as good, maybe one or two that are better, but the rest are all much worse. I don't think a lot of folks realize what the standard is for local radio/tv sports announcing, or maybe you all think we are just so damn special in the bay area that we deserve so, so much better than anybody else.

    3) That said, Amy G is unlistenable and I don't know how she keeps earning a paycheck.

    1. They won't even use her full married last name. Why?

Then again I don't want to hear that shit either.

  13. Amy G. should be farmed out to the Petaluma Little League.
She is a good example of Murphy"s Law.

    1. 9:44 ... Did you mean to say the Peter Principle? That would seem more appropriate.

  14. Completely agree with 8:54. Just try to listening to other team's announcers. I was in Houston recently driving to the airport, had the Astros-A's on...sounded like a minor league game. Joe Angel used to announce here, got fired (for good reason...he was terrible)...had to go back to Baltimore (where he's beloved). In state, try listening to the Padres (Ted Leitner), Dodgers (Charlie Steiner)...anyone really think those are better listening experiences?

Also, re. Giants fans, remember half the people in the stands are not really fans, but out-of-town tourists, or Gen-X types looking for something to do. That said, having those people show-up allows the Giants to spend big $ on payroll, which produced 3 (count 'em) World Series victories.

As a Giants fan, yeah this season sucks, but we've still got it a lot better than most every team in the league.

  15. And now the Giants are bringing back Sandoval so Larry can sell more ridiculous Panda hats, what a joke...
