*The CBS Radio merger with Entercom will have very little impact locally; KCBS should be humming along for the foreseeable future with little or no tinkering.
More ominous is that CBS' decision to, in essence, deemphasize its radio division (which accounts for $9 billion of its assets and is profitable) spells doom and gloom for the other guys that are cutting the paper clips and coffee for the lounge.

*Juliette Goodrich-- I told you the other day, is being courted, heavily, by a national outlet. That doesn't count the local station nearby that would love to have Jules in the building. It seems KPIX is the only station I can think of that places its best anchor on the weekend. Maybe they should open their eyes before its too late.
*Gary Radnich --you know, the guy that is hawking a real estate ad on radio (for the first time in 24 years) might be doing so because his KRON salary is about to be shredded --as a certain man says, believe me.
Radnich isn't alone --as KRON morphs along with a new owner, the slash and mash credo is nothing new for this corporate entity --and KRON and its little big people are no different from the others --well maybe KRON sells more lawn furniture.

*Speaking of KGO, its content and relative stability makes it the most consistent Bay Area TV News station.
No local TV outlet here is paramount but the Circle7 gang puts out the best, most comprehensive news product in the market with a capable staff and dedicated personnel that performs mightily in spite of a mercurial News Director that is detested by a majority of the people in the newsroom.
Consistent is a key word for the ABC7 station as its news presentation seems to be A-Rate no matter what time slot, 4, 5, 6 and 11 PM.
In addition, KGO reporters, producers, editors and photographers always do a better-than-average job of presenting the news.
For that latter reason, we'll credit Madame Watkowski for maintaining grace at 900 Front Street.
*I've always said that the Pac-12 Network is vastly a waste of time and energy with very poor production and an amateur look. If you want a more meaty detail of what I mean check out this detailed analysis by Tom Fitzgerald in Monday's Chronicle.

Agreed about Goodrich. I know this is an SF blog, but something rather interesting has happened in LA, where at KCBS the star-profile anchor Paul Magers (Ron's kid brother) has simply disappeared without a word after thirteen years. And just as sweeps began. So long, been good to know ya... it's a harsh business and it's one reason I'm glad I'm only observing it from a distance.
ReplyDeleteOff subject but CHRIS NGUYEN has not been on weekend mornings for months on ABC 7 .
ReplyDelete> It seems KPIX is the only station I can think of that places

True. AND they have him do weather as well as anchor. Poor Brian!
KRON has been doing some "goodbyes" to long standing employees on air. Since there are not many places the older anchors they can go..they I bet just take the punches.
ReplyDeleteYears of Radnich putting them down sort of softened them up already.
My vote goes to Jessica Aguirre, have always liked her. I can tell by her delivery she really enjoys the job she has and projects it with her mannerism and deliverance. After all she is the one in the short skirt, sexy at any age! It's called the News with benefits....go Jessica!!
ReplyDeleteAs far as sexy, she has Peggy Bunker to contend with.
DeleteWhenever I think of Jessica it brings to mind her yelling out the window of her apartment in SF when they were trimming trees in front...
DeleteThat wasn't Jessica. It was Terilyn Joe at KNTV, 15+ years ago.
DeleteThat wasn't Jessica, it was Terilyn Joe, an anchor at KNTV, 15+ years ago.
DeleteWell duh! You just reduced your IQ score by 20 points! That's ok, it's called a "I Are Stupid" moment, everybody has them! Wonder what happened to her?
DeleteBruce Jenkins has been extremely critical of the Pac12 Network very regularly in his Saturday columnn, calling out their inability to land DirecTV. He's also been very critical of their TBD college football schedule, where you don't know when a game will be played until the day before or day of. It's one of the reason Cal is blaming for season ticket losses. As Jenkins says, college football is meant to be played on Saturday afternoon, a tradition that goes back eons. Unfortunately, the schools make much more in TV money when the games are at night, so alumni, students and other fans essentially lose. I will say a half-filled stadium doesn't look so great on TV, especially for college games where the stadium crowd is 1/4th of the attraction.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I respect Mr Jenkins, college football or the broadcasts of football games has changed.
DeleteThere is no turning back the hands of time.
David Louie was good in his day - but frankly I don't know why he is still on the air. He frequently makes mistakes reporting from the scene which seems to be only the South Bay area.
ReplyDeleteRaj gets my vote. Why? Because he can also do sports. What say you Jess?
ReplyDeleteSports...The same thing that killed the Hillary team also killed the Falcons team, "complacency." The Hillary team thought it was a slam dunk and the Falcons at half time, knew it was in the bag!
DeleteAmateurs thinks in vision or circumstances. Professionals emphasize the concept of connecting tangible circumstances to a tangible vision.
ReplyDeleteI have an example of connecting tangible stuff to a tangible vision by the professionals.
DeleteWhen it starts to rain the professional Weather people will tell us, "The roads are going to be wet." The intelligence they offer us is just amazing!
Radnich dropped a joke about he might not be at KRON by April. FWIW as the internet speaks.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Ray Taliaferro
ReplyDeleteDavid Louie, what an icon in so many ways. He has been with KGO since 1972-here's a link to some fascinating facts about his career: http://www.chineseamericanheroes.org/heroes/2013/David%20Louie.pdf
ReplyDeleteDavid Louie is a very good reporter and a sweetheart on top of it.
ReplyDeleteJessica thought she was 'all that' even back in 1993. I worked with her in S. Florida at our circle 7 - WSVN.
ReplyDeleteGary Radnich said on KRON last night that "Pam Moore was so angry she yelled at me and complained to management" He wouldn't even hint at what he did- THAT proves he did something she hated enough to blow some steam over. When Radnich gets stupid? He tries to avoid saying what it is he did..like the Heenan fiasco.
ReplyDeleteHe said pretty much the same thing two newscasts in a row and also did his sports segment quickly. More proof.
Radnich is not fading away gracefully.
