  1. Hey Rich, I heard on the news that it rained! Do you know anything about this??

  2. Rich -

Any chance with the KRON sale we may get some changes to bring it back to its former glory or can we expect more of the same garbage?

    1. The new GM is supposedly dedicated to beefing up the station but I doubt it; in fact, I predict a lot of budget trimming and cutbacks. That's not going to help...another ominous note for some of KRON's better paid talent: cuts in salary and outright termination. Stay tuned.

Hey Rich, any word on how Ray T is doing? I get the feeling he wants to be out of sight.

    1. Apparently, Ray Taliaferro is writing a book and enjoying retirement and intentional seclusion --maybe when he's done writing the book he'll become more public, maybe not.

  4. Rich, I notice that over on KGO Ethan Bearman has half a dozen doctors on everyday pushing a book or website. Do you think KGO is getting reimbursed for these mini info-commercials?

    1. As bad as KGO/Cumulus is I don't think they've reached that level. Payola was bad back then and would be now.

Then again, nothing would surprise me anymore.

  5. I really enjoy your blog. But I'm one of those people that really can't afford to donate as much as I'd like to do so. Just so you know that there are a lot of us out there. Please hang in there.

    1. Thank you for your readership and kind note. It's not you or others like you that I'm trying/requesting donations/subscriptions--I know there's a lot of people like you that have to make ends meet and you're financially challenged, again, I completely understand...it's the people that come here and read this site on a frequent basis that have the financial means and then some to contribute, that I wish could step to the plate.

  6. Rich, when everything that was good about bay area media is finally exhausted, what will be left?
Where is all this going? Robots reading news fed to us by sources owned far away?
I guess what im afraid of is, that it already happened.
    Thanks for the hard work.

    1. And thanks for your readership too.

Yes, the media apocalypse has arrived.

  7. What do you make of right wingers who say they don't care to see Trump's tax returns while at the same they spent 8 years dying to see Obama's college transcripts and birth certificate?

    1. Uh, hypocrisy at its highest.

      'Nuff said.

    2. I could be wrong, but I think the Constitution requires the president to be a citizen. I don't think it says anything about his taxes.

      Delete
    3. 12:31 thank you for the FACTS and not spin.

    4. No one questioned Obama's citizenship except the teabaggers and Trump. Lawsuits have begun vs our president with regard to his taxes. What is he hiding? Release the taxes Drumpf!

      Delete
    5. I'll be happy with that tax cut.

    6. Funny, but a provision in the Constitution does say he's violating law that says a President cannot do private business or gift to a foreign government.
As a matter of fact,I have read of MANY presidents who have had to give away gifts given to them personally by other countries. Trump,to better his profit margin is the giver in this case.
A guy on KPFA- a caller- kept hammering at why in all the months he was running, the media never got on Trump as to what he would do if he won and his extensive business holdings?
True,it basically was just a murmur. Yet,how do run a billion $ corp. And be president?
      You can't legally,hence the lawsuit.
      Sabe?

    7. Agreed 1:34 I'll be very happy with the tax cut. Only the uninformed cry about what he's doing.

On a side note 12:56, using Drumpf went out of style about 6 months ago. But I think it's cute how you feel you're relevant and really sticking it to his supporters. Keep it up (rubs your hair)!

    8. dear 3:17,so you are informed, listening now to the illegitimate one's nominee for health and human services getting reamed by Claire McCaskill, and you don't mind losing your medicare? I think it's great that you also will be so willing to provide direct care for your aging parents, and letting the tax cuts created by gutting obamacare, go only to those making more than $200,000. per year...right?It's going to be really great for you, right ? and all the other "uninformed" folks?

  8. Hi Rich,

I see Westwood One, which syndicates CBS Radio News and other CBS Radio properties including KCBS is cutting many old timers lately. Washington correspondent Barry Bagnato, a 30-year fixture at the network; afternoon anchor and 24-year CBS mainstay Harley Carnes; and “CBS World News” anchor Bill Whitney, who has logged 32 years with CBS Radio News and just this weekend longtime CBS NEWS correspondent DAN RAVIV called it quits.

Do you think this will be the end of KCBS radio soon?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think it's the end of KCBS because KCBS earns it bread and butter on traffic reports and AM and PM drive news blocks but certainly, a good segment of its parent, CBS Radio, has axed a great bit of tremendous journalists.

      Very sad.

    2. If you look at the years of experience, these guys have to be in their 60s and 70s. They have had a great, and in some cases rugged careers, so maybe it was just time to hang up the headphones and retire!

  9. How much do you rely on tips and do you properly vet them?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I rely on tips quite a bit --as do others I would imagine who write the type of blog I do...as for proper vetting, of course I do as much fact-checking as time allows me, obviously, like others, I make mistakes but I try best not to.

    2. There are a lot of Giants fans who sure wished that Rich's previous tip about Amy G were true instead of false. Very sad. (Oops, that's two 'very sad's, and creepingly, we are starting to sound like someone we don't want to sound like. Gee, who could that be? Even Steve Kerr poked fun at his spokesman.)

  10. Back in the 1990's KGO Radio gave away gold colored key rings with a tag that promised return of your keys if dropped in any mailbox. There was a registration # on the tag and a P.O. box #.

    My question is...
If I lose my keys today, and they get "dropped in any mailbox"? Does anyone at KGO still have the list of people who registered?

    Or am I screwed?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Uh, you're pretty much screwed but why worry about such minutiae? Go out and eat a good sandwich and pickle --that'll help.

  11. Happy New Year's Rich!! Do you think Michelle Greigo will be resigned? And, could it be that Roberta is the reason for low ratings? She has been around for an awfully long time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If she is she'll be getting a whole lot less money. I think they retain her but I wouldn't be surprised if she got axed. The morning show is in deep decline and she's no help.

      Delete
  12. What could KPIX have done different in terms of content and hiring for the morning show? Kenny and Rocki were weak choices, and Michelle adds nothing

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm guessing each new hire was to save money from the anchor that was previously there.

  13. Melanie Morgan retired from morning radio on the claim that she is tired from waking up early and wants to spend more time with her husband, Jack Swanson. Is that true, or is there more to the story?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Entirely true and accurate, sorry if you were looking for more.

  14. There is more, he was unemployed for a long while before KCBS took him in. Melanie never belonged at 1350 Hicksville

  15. Rich, anything New with Garica-Cannon and her ex?

  16. Rich, I see that Juliette is looking around. If she does decide to go across the street to kgo, does that mean that Sze is finished? I find her to be silly? What say you?
