  1. Hi, Rich When will Anny Hong return ?

  2. She was on maternity leave and caring for her newborn, I assume its only a matter of weeks before she's back.

  3. What are the overall listening numbers for radio? Not just the ratings locally, but overall? With all of the pablum you hear, I'm wondering how many tune out local radio altogether...

    1. The "overalls" are anyone 6 and older listening; they are not what advertisers use to buy time, hence, the "beauty contest" numbers...Advertisers buy station based on specific demos like, say, males 25-54 or 18-49...For example, KNBR does well with M 25-54 given their all-sports format and Giants/49ers flagship.

    1. They hate each other and only go to work on the air. Of course they'll deny this but Its the truth.

  5. With some time having passed, any idea what the final straw was with Christina Loren being shown the door?

I live in continual hope that the ever frowning Keri Hall won't return from her leave! Just looks like she hates her gig.

    1. She was apparently let go due to conduct detrimental to the business, sort of petty if you ask me, perusing a computer and making a little too much money to boot.

  6. Rich, I thought Bernie Ward had to register as a sex offender for life when he got out of jail, but he's nowhere to be seen on the Megan's Law website. Did he move out of state?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, he's in SF to the best of my knowledge. I have no answer to your other question, but I'm sure someone knows.

      Delete
    2. I believe that Bernie Ward was convicted on federal charges--not state charges. If that is correct, then California's Megan's Law would not apply.

      Delete
    3. You are wrong - every person convicted of a sexual crime and required to register as a sex offender must do so with the local jurisdiction in which they live.

      Delete
    4. Bernie has served his time for his crime(s). I see no valid reason why he can not be in radio. I enjoyed the entire evening line up on KGO starting with Gene, Bernie and Ray. Bring Bernie back.

    5. To 7:43 PM:

You are correct that California's Megan's Law requires that all sex offenders must register with their local jurisdiction; however, since Bernie Ward was convicted on federal charges, Megan's Law would not apply.

  7. Hello, first I really enjoy this site and the service you provide, having an Ex. That was w/ Capcities (KGO 7) as a reporter anchor.....it was an interesting period of my life, anyhow my question is what happened to Ray Ratto on KNBR w/ Tolbert, one day he was thee and next he was gone, I like him, a bit quirky, reminds me of a present day Herb Cahn)spelling ?)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ratto was hosting on a temporary basis (months) until KNBR --Cumulus really, preferred a more juvenile, lowest-common-denominator, doofus. They have no respect to you, the listener.

  8. Rich,

Why didn't you publish/answer my question about where to get a good pastrami on rye in the East Bay (not Saul's)? Still curious.

    James in Albany

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. James, I don't recall the question but now that I'm here for you, cross out Saul's --their pretenders and they have bad deli, ino...a really good pastrami and cheap and right near by: Oaks Card Club deli down San Pablo in Emeryville. Food is plentiful and you eat well.

      Delete
    2. Bay Area's best kept secret until now. - Big Apple deli, 13th and Webster, downtown Oakland. Seriously

  9. I miss Christine Craft on KGO. Any likelihood of hearing her again there? And is there any way of knowing when Rothmann is on? I make a point to listen if I know he is on.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Christine is a fill-in sub and is on and called when someone is on vacation and/or sick. I believe Pat Thurston is the prime back-up and CC down on list...Rothmann frequently posts his status on his Facebook page.

      Delete
    2. I miss Christine on here. Will she return?

      Delete
    3. She'd probably come back on here and post if some of these haters would stop bashing her, calling her names and acting like jerks.

  10. Gut feeling; Who will be our next president?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hillary Clinton. Because she has 241 firm electoral votes --270 is needed to win. Which means she can lose states like Ohio and Florida and still win...Trump has a much more narrow path to victory and needs to win (and also take states that are more blue and get them in his corner (like New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania) that doesn't bode well for The Donald.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ok, then what happens to Trump post-election. He doesn't like to lose and his brand is forever/further tarnished/destroyed. Does he get louder? Do his racist followers try for an uprising?

      We're fucked either way, right?

      Delete
    2. Rich, it never happens that way! This isn't some sort of random matrix thing. Ohio has consistently picked the victor since 1964. Why would this year be different? It won't be. Where do you think everyone from Ohio who retires out of state goes? Florida! I think basically all of my dad's friends from the real estate and insurance business are in Naples. Will Wolf be able to steal Pennsylvania for the Clintons? Probably...but it won't matter. Republicans haven't won there since 1988. Dubya won twice without it.

If Minnesota is competitive and was the only state Mondale won in 1984, what makes you think Ohio and Florida either won't matter or won't be a leading indicator for the rest of the east? Damn, I can't wait to hear this.

      Delete
    3. I didn't say it would necessarily happen like this scenario...I was just saying Hillary COULD win the WH without Ohio and Florida while Trump HAD to win states like Florida AND OHIO and pick off some traditional BLUE states like NJ, Penn, Mich, and Virginia...very unlikely. Basically, Trump needs to win 5-6 toss-up states and still carry traditional RED --while Hillary needs only 2, a much more easier path to victory.

      Delete
    4. Anon, it's a good point. I think Ohio and Florida are leading indicators but if something strange happens and the DNC steals this thing for Hillary in the general just as they stole it for her in the primaries, the next wall we build won't be on the Mexican border. It'll be around DC because that's what it will take for her to be administered the oath! Look at the crowds in Florida the other night. The crowds in blue collar areas of Ohio during the primaries were some of the largest I've ever seen. I guess the Youngstown airport was completely overwhelmed. This stuff matters.

      Delete
    5. I hear you and I know that's what the pure numbers say but history says it just doesn't happen. If Ohio and Florida are his (that appears to be in the can) and she's fighting to carry a state that's the home of the United Auto Workers, it doesn't look good. She'll take Wisconsin because of Madison but when I heard Minnesota was in play that got my attention. Obama carried North Carolina in 2008 but did not carry it in 2012. Trump will take it and probably Virginia as well for one reason: COAL.

We've been here before. Nixon's Southern Strategy 2.0. I know that was nearly fifty years ago and demographics have changed but when I heard Trump beat the podium about law and order I knew Manafort and Stone were lurking somewhere in the background. Atwater worked for Manafort:

How about a Bill Graham story too?

    1. Never met her, heard a lot. I wasn't in her circle but while she was good to her community, she was also good at some other things that the local media ignored. Ask Willie Brown.

  13. Why don't you have a radio show? I think if you put this blog forum on the air, it could be successful and entertaining. Do you feel like you may have been blackballed by the media in this market?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ME, blackballed? You don't say! ...LOL, look if I was only wanting to do a radio show I certainly wouldn't have done this blog. And by the way, I do occasionally host a show every now and then on KSCO in Santa Cruz. Thanks for the question.

  14. Hey Rich, thanks for all you do. My question: Mark Seelig's twitter page said (at one point) that he is no longer at KCBS. Any news on why?

    2. Seriously, I would like a few items of swag out of there if possible. I'll buy some caps or shirts and give them away to people I know back east. They'll get a kick out of it.

    3. My wife calls it the trashy, low rent, crazy people station. It's so stereotypical San Francisco - one would think most people would want to see it go.

    1. None of the above. Thurston and Rothmann on the weekend or when PT is subbing for Mr. Softie.

    2. Seriously? Even if you don't like them personally, you can't deny that Brian Copeland and Ronn Owens are the best hosts there. Very engaging topics and actually have intelligent conversations with listeners.

  21. Oh,yeah, one more question. Radnich SWEARS knbr has NEVER told him what he can or not say.
So why does he never mention the Raiders despite 3 hours to kill?

    1. Stan, at this point the man just wants to cash checks and pay for his inventory, he's racing time. Remember when he said he would NEVER do ads? How's that working now? He'll do what it takes to pay the monthly nut and that includes following orders from the Atlanta suits.

  22. What will happen 2 the Radman when KRON shuts it's doors? Love the blog..

    ReplyDelete

    1. It depends what becomes of KRON --there's already lots of stories making the rounds. I don't think Raddy is in the long term plans no matter who/what happens, just a hunch.

  23. Hi Rich. Next time you have a 'virtual lunch' with Mike Savage, please ask him not to play so many songs from the 1950's early rock Era. I had forgotten how noisy, and annoying some of those songs could be. He's got one who sounds like Wayne Newton on Speed & Helium (I know it sounds redundant), and it's rather tedious.
If I called up with that remark, he would cuss me out and hang up on me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Where has Ken Wayne been? Did Heather Holmes kick him out of the 4 and 7?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, he's around. Probably just off or is on assignment --Wayne is a FOX2 keeper.

  25. I guess I am a one-man torch carrier for Katie Marzullo. How she could go from anchor desk to covering fires on the late shift is beyond me. Did she piss off somebody and this is her penance? I like her performance, I like her style, and the camera likes her, in my opinion. Any ideas?

    1. I've been hot and cold for KM; seems KGO doesn't feel she's BIG TIME so they've moved her this way and that. I think long term, she's destined for a new zip code but she also likes the Bay Area too so her lower-level gig at KGO will have to do for now and she's OK with it for now. She has no choice either.

      Delete
    2. I like Katie, too, and wish that KGO would let her co-anchor on the weekends with Eric Thomas. She is very good!

      Delete
  26. Any word on Ann Mackovic at KPIX? Is she gone?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. She's looking around for a new gig and wants out at KPIX, as I reported here a few months back.

    2. She would fit right in with the KRON Crew!!

  27. Rich -

Why don't you break bread with Pero and get the scoop on when KRON will shut down. We need a date to put us out of our misery

    ReplyDelete

    1. Pero doesn't know anything. They don't tell the bottom-feeders ANYTHING at KRON, and Pero's a bottom-feeder whether he knows it or not.

  30. Grants Lodes- who is like a Radnich 2.0 kept referring to the police officer killed in the motorcycle accident as "That guy". Lodes kept repeating "that guy" in the story. Lodes also was in comfy blue tennis shoes.
Have you noticed that standards in news at KRON have sunk in a big leap since you broke the story of Media General wanting to dump KRON?

  31. Why is Alan Colmes having a difficult time finding a home here in San Francisco.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Heard a new girl doing news on KSFO. Who was that? She was surprisingly good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. the girl on KSFO does traffic sometimes on KGO. I ask myself every day how the Brian Sussman show stays on. He is a suck up to Michael Savage - he used to guest host for Mark Levin - don't know what happened there. His show has copied tons from Armstrong and Getty (not that they are much better), but honestly, there's nothing to listen to in the mornings. Had to vent, thanks, Anonymous
