If Only KPIX Had Prepped New Traffic Anchor, Roqui Theus, She'd Be a Star; 415 Media Has Hope For Bright Future

Roqui Theus
At first glimpse and soon thereafter there's nothing at all non-appealing to watch new KPIX Morning traffic anchor, Roqui Theus, do her traffic reporting. I mean, take a look.

Better yet, take a look at this when Ms. Theus was in Sacramento --all 6 foot, 1 inch of her, she's quite a sight to behold.

That's a good thing.

The problem is that once Theus, (the daughter of former Sacto Kings great, Reggie Theus) is speaking, she seems out of her element. She's in a new larger market and PIX seemed to just throw her onto the screen which is great for her, maybe not so great for Bay Area viewers.

Maybe if KPIX actually put her through some practice time (which is normal procedure) she may have blossomed to become quite capable at her gig. But at PIX, they don't have a lot of patience and thus, we have a very green talent for the sake of, well, you know...

Given time, which PIX has not heard of, Theus could develop into quite a star. She's not doing news or sports but she has quite the screen presence and let's face it, she's gorgeous --the right combination for future stardom and a means to eventual viewer bliss in the nation's #6 market.

Too bad PIX couldn't have prepped her better.

  1. Rich, you are on to something. My original thought was that she was an absolute idiot with no business in broadcast due to the flubs and um uhh ummm "keep that in mind" she keeps throwing out. But maybe she is better suited for sports or some feature reporting like she did at Good Day. I am afraid to say that she is not intelligent enough to learn something so out of her element

  2. It is interesting Rich you talk about the Sacto market. I was watching good day from the CBS Affiliate in Sacto and it is horrible. Today they had some rotund bearded ass smashing watermelons as a major report. The rest of the time their third tier on screen staff are visiting taco bell or some other lame activities.

I'd say this beauty got drafted as she is toooo cute for the Sacto market.

After reviewing this mornings news feeds I'd suggest Assia be transferred to KRON in place of Rich Black. Rich's piece is and has been useless so why not get eye candy Assia to do this at KRON? Assia is clueless and so can handle the spot very well...

    1. Good Day Sac is also on 44. Where I'm at I can pick up both 31 and 44 and only difference is the ads and the crawl.

    2. Rich Black? ROB Black????

  3. I've watched her the last two days and she's okay, but admittedly young. I would guess Traffic is a good place to do that. She and Roberta were chatting this morning between traffic and weather segments and Theus said she was cold in Oakland yesterday. Roberta, as is her wont, said, "We have to fatten you up." Just what a woman wants to hear, Ro.

  4. Could the morning traffic reports on KPIX get any worse than they were? Yes!

  5. I think talent and presence shows, and it doesn't take very long. If people have it they don't stay in the small markets very long. We have some folks on the Salinas-Monterey air who are going to be there forever and will always look like they need practice. The good ones make it look easy, and the others...

  6. Good Day may look amateur but it's been on the air for 21 years, and gets good ratings and pays the bills at KMAX-TV.

    1. "Gets good ratings" , you obviously have not seen the ratings. They been on the decline for years, and have started losing their popularity.

    2. Well all TV news and programming is on the decline, the younger audience uses alternative devices and places to get their news. Yes I agree the ratings are not what they were in 2005 but they hold their own. I worked their for 9 years and we had viewers no matter what Nielsen says.

  7. The one thing KPix is is stubborn. Instead of scooping up Robin, Erica, or George, they wasted time rotating people. Instead of putting this poor child out of her misery, they will continue to squirm behind closed doors as she rattles off mistake after mistake. Diction is horrible, she sounds like a teen. But they will he stubborn about this choice. George was a great fit and brought alot of personality to the set.. Oh and a brain

    1. Why would anybody hire out of market for traffic? As soon as I hear a mispronunciation or a reference to "The 101" I am onto the next channel! I NEED to know that the person presenting information is qualified to do so. As for George Rask? No. Don't care for him either but for entirely different reasons.

    2. KPIX does seem to be stubborn. Consider how long they have stuck with Andria Borba.

A few weeks ago, Borba appeared red-eyed and stupefied during a late-night in-studio report. She was also slurring. With a strange grin on her face, she tried to say twitter and posed during her segment. She blurted out "twittier," and "prosed." It reminded me of Jessica Savitch.

This is not the first time Borba has looked and sounded way off. If the woman is not well, I wish her the best in regard to a recovery. But when we see her on-air, it seems to be a tossup as to whether she will be presentable and capable of filing a lucid report.

  8. If you're really interested in a local traffic person you need to follow Sal on Ch. 2 or Robin on Ch. 4

  9. I am retired so I don't care about traffic. But, I do like the new hottie on KGO when I am viewing GMA on my DVR on fast forward.

  10. Alexis on KGO is kicking her a$$ in the traffic department. Roci has lived in the Bay Area for a year now- Alexis just hopped off a plane. It just goes to show that some have the chops and others... Not so much. Another bonehead move by KPIX and like one poster said, they will not fix this mistake swiftly but instead remain stubborn until someone in management eventually takes the fall and gets fired instead. Cant imagine CBS corp likes this

    1. The new kpix morning traffic person has lived in the Bay Area for a year?! Wouldn't know it from the 5am show this morning! "the 580", "the 680" mispronunciation of El Portal Drive, vague and conflicting info - then ADMITTING to not knowing Star Wars! WOW what a disaster in the first hour! smh

    2. Looks like they pulled her off the air today because Gianna was back. I was never a fan of Gianna as she is no looker, but damn, was the difference astounding in actual information provided

    3. Yes, I noticed she was absent. I tuned in, just to get a laugh. But Gianna was there.

  11. Nothing like diversity!!

  12. Qualified or not, this is payback for all the years of the lack of diversity in sports broadcasting.

  13. This doesn't do anything for sports broadcasting what are you smoking?

  14. Too bad TV nowadays is entirely looks driven not based on your ability. A guy like Walker Cronkite would never be in front of the camera in today's news.

  15. Kpix needs to be embarassed. She has poor speaking skills in addition to her stupidity. Good luck ch 5!

  16. I think Roqui is just fine. Certainly superior to her predecessor. Have you noticed that all shots of Roqui are from the next room? The Divas of KPIX won't allow a closeup of Roqui. Unfortunately, being young and talented makes for a tough row to hoe at KPIX, unless you are a Stepford Wife like Elizabeth Cook.

  17. I actually sent an email to KPIX regarding Ms. Theus. I agree she is an attractive young woman but let's face it she is woefully unprepared and unprofessional. It is so irritating I don't watch KPIX Morning news anymore instead I listen to the professionals on KCBS radio.
