While Carnage Aftermath Was Being Reported Everywhere KGO Radio Running Travel Show

It's wall-to-wall coverage; every news station; local, national, even International outlets like BBC is covering the worst mass shooting in US History; the ongoing events in Orlando dominates this Sunday.

Except at 9: 23 AM PT: Good old KGO Radio is airing a travel show, live no less.

A fucking.travel.show.

KGone, the gift that keeps on giving.

Is there a News Director at KGO? Oh, yes, she should be fired.

  1. KGO's all news format blew up on them, so they reboot and now when big news breaks in the off hours and weekends, they got cooking shows and infomercials on...smh

  2. I put on 2FOX and the first thing I hear? An old guy pontificating that it was all caused by "Being too P.C." ..he went on to say "We cant ask medical records,we cant etc, etc,"
Yeah,Its not the gun epidemic, the gun Tsunami or the NRA fanatical gun lobby.
The Allah Akbar malarkey is an excuse for sociopaths to kill.

  3. What is even worse the likeable John Hamilton was followed by the very unlikeable and annoying Doug Andrew. I turned to 1530 am Sacramento, and they had local coverage, a former sheriff from Sacramento and talk show host on the same station (John McGinnis)was on along with another retired NYPD detective, and a reporter. 1530 is a Cumulus station, yet at times they seem to have better programming than KGO.

    1. Same with KMJ 580AM Fresno. They're still (1pm) running a hybrid of CBS and CNN coverage. Nothing local, but I would expect local coverage there. Shame on KGO.

    2. Did the same. The KFBK feed was very informative.
That Doug Andrews character, the guy who wants to sell you an underperforming annuity with long lock in periods. Want an annuity salesmen? Listen to KNBR.

    3. Actually KFBK is iHeartMedia not Cumulus. Sacramento has no Cumulus stations. Personally if tragedies such as this happen I look for stations in the market where it happened to get the story. Network coverage on radio 2500 miles away is not that informative.

  5. Surprised? I can't imagine there's anyone in the newsroom on Sunday morning. Do they even still pay for the "news on the cheap" feed from Texas?

    2. I don't think so, say what you will about Ronn, but he usually talks about what is in the news the most, especially the first hour. I couldn't believe KGO had the Doug Andrew show or whatever that annoying person's show is, however they did make up for it later when John Rothmann sat in for Pat Thurston, however my guess is it was not a decision made by the program director, but rather my Pat. Anyway it was so nice and comforting to hear John's voice and intelligent analysis of the shooting in Orlando. Later I listened a little to Maureen Langdon just towards the end of her show. too much giggling, but she did talk about Orlando. She has gotten better since she started, but she cannot hold a candle to John Rothmann.

  7. KRON 4 was not much better - your news station switched to Joel Olsten's show. There is no excuse for cutting news in a crisis. We need to write that boy Olsten and tell him he is a sinner...

Stanley Roberts should do a segment on KRON 4 behaving badly. I wonder what the backstory will be on that?

  8. Another sign of bad coverage came during the 9am hour on ABC7. Instead of staying with network wall to wall coverage like the NBC and CBS station were doing, they decided to go to local news! Worst single mass massacre in U.S. history impacting the LGBT community; one were one of the largest concentration resides in The Bay Area, and they decide to do local news? Hope directive did not involve Disney as their #1 most valued property, Disney World is less then 25 minute drive from scene of today's carnage.

  9. Another reason that Cumulus destroyed KGO 810, and management should go to hell.

  10. Travel show because SF is a destination city. Crime only happens in other cities.

  11. SF should be on the alert after what happened in Florida. Crazies out there .

  12. Meanwhile two former KGO reporters and the former promotions director won AP news awards this weekend. At the very least KGO could have flipped the damn switch and carried CNN or the Westwood One coverage.

  13. There is no news director, there are two news anchors for weekends and a producer to "write" read "copy" the news from other sources. The weekend news staff was blown out three months before they gutted the rest of the news department. When a huge local story breaks they will be completely incapable of covering the news any better than a music station.

  14. Nobody listens to KGO anyway, so who cares what they do?

  15. And this is a surprise? Seriously folks. Based on how broadcast media is today, this is a surprise? BTW: KRON4 was airing an infomercial with Larry King -- or was that Fox2? It doesn't matter. It's how things get done.

Deregulation of radio, automation and an emphasis on going cheap (thank you Dickeyhead brothers) have made media worthless. You can't rely on your local media to tell you a thing.

Meanwhile, Chet Huntley, Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings and Howard K. Smith are turning in their graves.

  17. Ronn Owens was in Orlando and someone asked him for his thoughts.

    "It's going to be great!"

  18. WDBO in Orlando did an amazing job of covering yesterday's horrific news. Cox owns 7 stations in the market and they brought people from all the stations together for coverage simulcast on all the stations. It was an example of what radio can still do, if the commitment and talent are there.

  19. Rich you are right on here. The biggest news about terrorism sense 9/11 ,50 murdered in the name of the religion of peace and tolerance and kgo airs its long standing and lifeless travel show.I was reminded again why this station is circling the drain at the bottom of the toilet. How clueless they are and what a huge disservice to the bay area they've become. In one word....unreal!!!
