There's Some Bay Area Media Folks Praying The Warriors Lose NBA Finals; Friday PM Quick Hits

 FRIDAY QUICK HITS

*A large majority of Bay Area TV News photographers are praying that the Warriors lose; why? Because of the shitload amount of work and logistics involved in covering the parade; how do I know this? A veteran newsperson with loads of information told me. The camera people also love their off time and this parade business involves hours and hours of prep work; it's not only the Warriors, they feel the same way about the Giants too.

I see their anguish but come on guys, it's not as if you're lifting anything. (wink)

*KGO TV's Michael Finney has a small army staff in his quality "7 On Your Side" business; lots and lots of staffers including 3 full-time producers; normally, I could have a problem here but A. Finney is a solid Consumer Anchor, and B. A really good guy too therefore, go get 'em Mike.

*I am now fully aware there's no Arby's in Union City, helllllllllo Newark; the ghost of Lloyd Lindsay Young has walked into the building.

*In case you're interested, Pam Moore can't stand Steve Aveson but Pam has to eat you know.

*Every Friday around 6ish, if you ever wanted to see some really cool TV people here get massively drunk, quietly, then hit up Grumpy's kitty corner to both KPIX and KGO-TV. Just don't go batty over anything, hey they're allowed to get fucked up just like the rest of us.

*Hey asshole, uh, 'scuse me, Mark Matthews.

*Dear Dave Clark of KTVU: Everybody says you're really a good guy so if that's the case, time for moi to reevaluate.

*Sal Castaneda on the other hand? C'mon Sal, really?

*Then again at least Sal isn't Mark Ibanez. Or, as some call him, "Pete's lifter."

FINALLY, hang in there great man.

  1. Michael Finney?

I've warmed to him since I left KPIX (fie on the Disney girl). He actually seems to get stuff done - unlike the self-impressed, ineffective, 1990's-haircutted, 60-watt Julie Watts.

    (Say watt?)

It's their goddamn job! If they don't like what they're doing, they need to find another line of work.

Haters like you are a sad lot with unresolved issues.

  4. Sadly, it appears that the final bell is about to ring for The Greatest. Been watching some of his fights on YouTube the last couple days. He was the best, and most colorful, during the unforgettable Golden Age of Heavyweights. The sports world, and the world, will never see Ali's like again.

    2. Could he beat Mike Tyson if both were in their prime?

    3. 9:42,

Ali's efforts were somewhat inconsistent. When he was at his best, I would give the edge to Ali. On Ali's off nights, especially after the '67-'70 hiatus, the young Tyson could have beaten him.

    4. @9:42 Tyson in his prime got knocked out by someone named Buster Douglas who hadn't done anything before or since. I don't think Ali would have had any problems at all with Tyson.

    5. Ali in his prime was so fast that would have negated Tyson, plus his defense and chin were unsurpassed. What a sad thing his prime was taken away, but incredibly he came back to fight the most incredible fights from '71 to '75, past his prime, which was prematurely ended in '67.

  5. Mohammad Ali passed away tonight at the age of 74...as reported on MSNBC.

  7. Tyson? Not in the same league with Ali or Joe Frazier. I'm reminded of Frazier's line when Ali was selected to carry the torch before the '96 Olympics -- "Why did they pick him? He's a draft dodger and a racist."

Joe Frazier was a Steppin' Fetchit/Uncle Tom uneducated Negro.

    1. Frazier bowed to no one. You're uneducated if you think so. Sounds to me like he had Ali pegged perfectly.

If you think 4:17 has Ali "pegged perfectly," it's you who's "uneducated." Ali was neither a draft dodger nor a racist. Apparently his moral convictions and longtime friendships with both Angelo Dundee and Howard Cosell are lost on you.

    1. Friendship? His relationship with Angelo Dundee was a working relationship -- that of trainer / boxer.
Although Cosell may have thought Ali was his friend, Muhammad used Howard to tout his bouts

  10. 7:31's comment is asinine, supremely so.
Ali was embarrassed by his own comments about Frazier and apologized to Joe.
