KFOG doesn't register on the IT Domain Anymore, Sorry 'Fog Heads' (Those of You That Still Exist)

KFOG was last relevant about ten years ago; even then, they weren't the chosen one; the chosen one long ago left the area; Dave Morey retired; "10 at 10" disappeared --so the fact some soulless Cloud Company is attempting a reincarnation is both worthless and clueless.

I've been bombarded with e-mail asking about the changes; the "new" station, the latest morning mercenary, et al.

I have no interest --I know there's a great deal of you that still care. Too bad the Clouds don't. They have lost credibility in this town. So some new guy who nobody has ever heard of doesn't cut it for me. The entire station for that matter. That's why I used a generic image of 104.5 because the old KFOG was destroyed long ago. The fogheads have moved to other things in life. FM radio isn't a destination anymore. Maybe 91.1 for their great jazz and blues.

As Don Pardo would have said: "Bye Bye"

  1. The only fog I know is the fog coming from Jan Wahl's backside after she eats a can of franks-n-beans.

  2. For anyone that does have interest, look up "Finch Files-KFOG DJ Goodbyes (Episode 52)"

  3. KFOG was "dad rock" back in the 80s and 90s and, over time, inevitably became in danger of morphing into "granddad rock." This morning's reboot seemed like an attempt to bring down their median age a little (but not by much, as I still heard plenty of old-KFOG staples like Pearl Jam and R.E.M.).

  5. If you are looking for a far-better terrestrial KFOG (even during its "peak"), I suggest KCRW, out of Santa Monica. And thankfully they are on www.

  6. KFOG ceased to be important a years ago. Satellite radio is the way to go. Deep Tracks and Little Steven's Underground Garage crush anything KFOG tries now. No commercials either and worth every penny.

  7. KNBR-FM is likely what will be next once this fails.

  8. The answer is not FM, it's not subscription radio. It's your own music collection. For 9.99 a month you can (almost) own any item in @Apple's library. Nobody quite gets that yet. The idea of (almost) ownership WILL catch on, because music just needs to be convenient. You don't really HAVE to own it.

    1. Reminds me of my cousins. When they see my CD collection and big stereo, they go "I can do that on my phone --- I gave my stereo and CDs/etc to Goodwill." Some of us are just old school.

  9. Pinnfield will stop showing up one day soon. Then we'll hear he's in treatment again. Now he risks two gigs if so...the KFOG gig and the syndicated nightly Cumulus gig, which would seem to be the antithesis of doing mornings anywhere. Gud luck with that Cloudulus.

  12. Tuned in this morning out of curiosity and they had some "has been" on for an hour. The bass player of R.E.M.? Has anyone informed this station that R.E.M. is irrelevant and so played out. When the members of R.E.M. won't even get back together to play their own shit, maybe they are sick of it too. And to have the bass player on talking about a tour in Florida? Who the f*ck cares? This Matt Pinfield seems to love himself as well. Name dropping and talking about his glory days on 120 Minutes on MTV. Hey Matt, no one watched 120 Minutes on MTV 25 years ago. It was on a 2 in the morning. There's a reason MTV doesn't have shows like that anymore. Get over yourself and quit living in the past. Also, start pronouncing the names of Bay Area cities correctly. Ask Mr. Brown Nose "Irish" Greg to educate you. But then again, like everybody else, you probably don't understand what's coming out of that mumble mouth hack anyways. C'mon Cumulus, just throw KNBR on 104.5 already.

  14. Correction: 10@10 didn't "disappear" after Morey retired. Annalisa started doing it (and did a terrific job, especially in the first couple years when she didn't have a PD micromanaging her). And it remained their highest-rated hour of the day. But it tended to skew older (like the Sunday morning Acoustic hours) and so it did not survive the current "evolution". Joisey boy Pinfield sounds like a character from "The Sopranos" -- I'm sure that worked for him in NYC, but here... notsomuch. They probably saw Prince's death today as a godsend -- they played 2 hours of him (even tho' they've deleted most of the '80s gold from their library) and they probably picked up a few disenfranchised "Kiss-FM" listeners for an hor or so.
