Breaking: Do You Care That Ronn Owens is Probably Staying Put at KGO Radio and Not Moving to KSFO? (Someone Smells a Publicity Stunt)

I don't give Cumulus nor Ronn nor his agent, credit, in pulling off this sort of publicity stunt, but it sure looks like Mr. Lowenstein is staying put ...ON KGO ...from 10-Noon ...for at least the foreseeable future.

Another announcement coming Monday--old news now.

 You saw it here first.

Cumulus and KGO has done to "major announcement" what CNN has done to "Breaking News."

  2. He should stay at KGO and either "bring it" or retire asap. It will be interesting to see if A&G get 6-10 or only til 9. Wait to see

    1. I hope someone says that about you some day. That is really low. He still has a good show. He just had an interview with Chris Matthews. Radio is not as popular as it was and there are so many other options these days that radio stations get desperate for ratings. It might help if the CEO's got paid less and were more in reality as far as what ratings radio can have these days. A lot of people listen to music on their radios.

  5. I am thrilled that Ronn is staying put. I do care. I wish he were on at 9:00 a.m., but I'll take what I can so I, Ronn and his loyal listeners don't have to deal with that awful right wing station where they were sending him. This is all kind of entertaining in a way.

  6. Way to go, Ronn !!

It'll be wonderful it Ronn stays at KGO. And, it's beautiful that someone is able to bite Cumulus in the butt.

  8. I've lived in San Francisco 20 years and I've never listened to Ronn Owens and wouldn't recognize him if he knocked on my door. Some folks think we all live in the same circle, the truth is we don't.

    1. I'm not quite so isolated but then I gave up on Ronn back in 1980 and haven't listened to him since then...

  9. I only care because I was looking forward to Armstrong & Getty on KGO!! That's okay, I can hear them on dozens of other California stations! Stopped listening to Ronn way back after the first KGO "blood bath" and the coy way he handled the job losses of his fellow employees there.

  10. Do I care??? No, why should I?? Im just a long time listener that stopped listening in 2011. I could care less in fact. 810 could bring back Jim Dunbar and charlie and humpfrey with a bit of bernie (the perv) ward tossed in for good measure......won't make a bit of difference. Yes dear readers ,the could is a dark one indeed.......

  11. I think this is hysterically funny. It shows what a eff'ed up sham Cumulus is... One more nail in its coffin.

I wonder, if true, how Ronn is going to address this to his listeners next week? Embarrassing either way.

    1. Yes, I thought he was saying how wonderful it was to be going to KSFO.

  12. I'm thinking was this a "New Coke" kind of stunt? Or just a way to dump the News Dept.

  13. Not many reports of hysteria or renting of garments with the KSFO announcement. I don't really care. All I want to know is where my boys Armstrong & Getty will be? Do I have to wait till Monday morning and play another guessing game?

    1. You can hear A&G on 650 am out of Sacramento.

    2. You actually listen to these hacks? The dumbing down of America is alive and well, even in the sophisticated bay area. Hopefully, not too dumb to elect Trump but nothing surprises me anymore.

    3. 7:51 - What you really wanted to say was "Hopefully, not so dumb as to elect Trump". Right?

  14. I don't think this was a publicity stunt, but just a lame move on the part of Cumulus. Between the listeners and the legalities they had to back track. Still, many people lost their jobs. Listeners were disrespected as there was no news or traffic starting Thursday noon and no warning. They upset a lot of people and there is no revenue coming in as there is only that weirdo "new generation" irritating blather on the station, no commercials.

  15. I don't listen to either of those stations regardless of who is on.

  16. following the 'stunt' narrative here is far more interesting than anything on KGO's air!

  17. Cumulus - the DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA - while the CEO cashes in. Disgusting.

  18. armstrong and getty flat out suck...they belong in that cowtown Sacramento not San Francisco

  19. I dunno how this is a Publicity Stunt -- so, they shuffle some people around, add Armstrong & Getty ("the sky is blue?? - that's the kind of thing you expect when a liberal is in charge!") --- and dump the news -- THAT'S SUPPOSED to endear us to them?? ... Goodbye KGO -

  20. If it's a stunnt, it's an elaborate onne – after KGO wennt off the air (what is that crap they've beenn runnning sinnce Ronnn signned off?) I switched to KSFO just to check them out and heard a large number of Ronnn Owenns promos with clips of his show annd his nnew startinng time. I thinnk they really were expecting him on their channnel startinng nnext Tuesady.

  21. Now that you mention it, I do think it is a publicity stunt...engineered by Ronnnnnnn. Maybe a cut in pay, surely shorter hours...only thing he didn't get was rid of Chip. I think that he engineered it because he took so much flack last time when everyone got dumped that he didn't want to be the punching bag....for the likes of posters here and on facebook. He could do the poor little sick old guy being forced to move to the wrong side of the tracks and offer sympathy (in private) to his fellow workers who were so cruelly slashed. While waiting not even the three day wake period...but suddenly finding something in his contract that he could fight it. Cumulous being the same kind of shit head that he is, was glad to oblige him. Maybe only one screwed would be his dear, dear friend Copie...but Gene Burns was his good, good friend, and he cried when Gene died...not for Gene, but for HIS loss at Gene dying. He's a miserable man...they should have moved him to the DREG's spot...7 pm...

  22. Ronn posted on his facebook page that he'd have a "Major announcement" on Monday. How many major announcements can he make in his two days on the air LOL. His facebook page basically says that all the emails, postings, and calls are going to save him. Not a word that it's his contract that's going to save him from being moved to KSFO. What a way to run a railroad LOL. Here's his facebook posting:

"There's been another turn of events. Justin Wittmayer, Vice President/Market Manager for Cumulus Media-San Francisco called me into the station yesterday to go over many of the emails, Facebook messages and phone calls received as a result of the announcement that I would be going to KSFO beginning next week. We have been in constant communication since and I expect there will be a major announcement on Monday. I cannot thank you enough for your tremendous outpouring of thoughtful and respectful comments. Your support makes a real difference! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am deeply touched and cannot begin to express my gratitude."

  23. The new generation of KGO sounds just the same. Owens is back, trying to get 9-12 back. Schmoozing with the new guys at 9. Same old commercials. Brett screaming the news every i5 minutes. Now Ronn can buy another Mercedes and eat more primerib. He's rich. And happy to be home. All he needs are glittered shoes. We're not at KSFO anymore. I honestly think he was scared of Savage. He can kiss ass for years left at KGO. A sad little man who needs an audience.
