KRON To Add New 10 PM Newscast Beginning in May

IN BETWEEN ALL the craziness involving fights between their female morning traffic and weather anchors -- I've learned from a source, KRON is planning a new 10 PM Newscast; the first program debuts in May (right in time for Sweeps

The newscast will run from 10-11: 15 PM; no word of who will work the newest platform.

KRON runs news at 5, 6, and 8 PM

  1. It's likely going to be an infomercial about a greedy electromagnetic brain snake oil doc, laser cosmetic surgery, or that guy (who used to do standup comedy) telling people how to beat the IRS disguised as "news".

    Why the extra 15 minutes?

  2. If true, the 11:15 end time is an interesting move much like when James Gabbert did the :55 start time for his programming. This counter time programming practice has been around for a while but sounds very exciting for KRON and a good move since I think they are rising in the ratings, I think.

It also adds revenue opportunity and hopefully viewers.

    1. Hmph...the last time Jim Gabbert ran from something was when he ran from the drag queens at Aunt Ruby's...HOCK!!!

    2. Steven - Not sure what you meant buy your statement and HOCK! But if you are picking on Jim Gabbert, I'm wondering if it is coming personal or professional envy. You are entitled to your opinion as everyone is but I always avoid besmirching any individual personally.

I don't know Mr. Gabbert at all,. Never met him but known other people who have. He might have been mercurial, like Steve Jobs, but he is brilliant and pioneering broadcast industry guy. A risk taker that I for one appreciate because whether he was successful or failed he kept at it even after he retired because he saw a need. From FM to the EBS after the '89 quake, He tried and pioneered in many aspects of this industry that are now standard practices.

I suspect you would agree with me that one of things currently, is that the broadcast industry has lost sight of the audience in many ways. Some people still understand it and strive for it but are shackled by current circumstances and business practices.

But Mr. Gabbert followed and stayed with the same time honored media rule dating back centuries. Focus, appeal and entertain your audience because they are your bread and butter for your product or business. Rich is doing just that with this very blog.

So go ahead attack someone like me but not Mr.Gabbert. I have made some effort in practices in radio and other industries that still hold up. Not a big legacy on my part but a satisfying one where contribution mattered and still does. But leave Mr, Gabbert out of it. His legacy is quite large and lasting in Bay Area media.

  4. Let me guess, Janelle Marie will be doing infomericals. The fat blonde sales rep will be interviewing the Indian dermatologist and we'll get to see the best of Hank Tennenbaum. As long as Jan "Hat Bitch" Wahl isn't on to give me nightmares. Oh yeah, another way for Brent Cannon to get his ass out of the trailer park. He can make more money doing those hokey commercials.

  5. On a side note, why do we need 20+ newscasts per day across all stations not including Viet., Chinese, Spanish language channels as well as the plethora of radio stations that have multiple newscasts daily and in print and online sources of news? Why do we need so much news?

    1. The same reason we "need" apps that wipe your ass, while real problems in the world go unsolved. It's cheap and easy. Real problems are hard and expensive, so we pretend they don't exist.

    2. I for one have never seen an app that wipes my ass. Sign me up, where do I download? By ignoring real problems are you referring to local news glossing over the fact we have porous borders, massive overpopulation in reference to resources, jobs, etc. and 20 trillion in debt? But hey, as long as Hillary or Bernie make a funny quip and people protest Trump or demand their $15 an hour utopia while ignoring the consequences to come...

    3. That "$15 an hour" utopia exists in Europe and I lived there for ten years. Wish I still could. Higher standard of living on 35 hours a week, with far more rights than the U.S. Lower deficits. More spent on education. Less spent on bombs and guns and bullets. Smarter people. The average American white male IQ is 93; the average European one is 107. Minorities here are even lower (blacks 84, Latinos 88). That's what will do our country in: stupidity.

    4. The same Europe that is in massive debt and ready to collapse 2:46? Watch the news as well, more and more rioting. Your previous "Utopia" has finally caught up to itself and is imploding.
