Rothmann is ThisClose to being back on KGO Radio

Lee Hammer really likes John Rothmann...that doesn't necessarily mean Rothmann is close to landing a seat at KGO Radio, but word is that Rothmann is thisclose to being back. In what time slot, in what capacity, who knows. I do know there's an election and that KGO --if it wants any sort of small redemption, they'd hire one of the very best political analysts in the biz: enter Rothmann.

We'll see.

  1. With all the fucking bonehead moves KGO has made in the last few years I have a hard time thinking they will bring Mr. Rothmann back.

  2. Too biased in my opinion.

Like with the female hosts, it's always those nasty mean Republicans fault. Neverrrr their beloved Dems.

On as similar subject, looks like former Democratic State Senator Leland Yee is looking at 8 years for his part in racketeering.

    1. Most talk show host are biased, they give their opinion, certainly Rush, Hannity, Savage and Levin does. Do you listen to any of them? Usually when someone thinks a host is too bias, what they really mean, they do not agree with the host, and are not interested in an opposing point of view.

    1. Agreed. Please no more Bushes, no more Clintons and definitely no more Christine Craft. The voice alone makes my dog cringe. Rothman is good talking general politics. His pro-Israeli stances are very disturbing. Israel can never do wrong in his eyes. That gets old very quickly.

  4. Thumbs up to Pat Thurston for sneaking him in the back door a lot recently.

    1. You are so right...Pat is the one that has kept him coming around...really helpful when she was filling in for the dregs (drex)...wish they could take over the noon spot...

    2. Yes, I too have noticed she seems to enjoy having him in her backdoor.

    3. Thurston filled in for Ronnnnnnn earlier this week and It was nice to hear a unapologetic liberal on the air after so many tiresome right wingers. A much needed breath of fresh air! Too bad she can't replace him permanently.

  5. Maybe again we will hear the infamous words "this is going to be good. I'm liking the new format"

  6. The last time KGO surveyed their listeners they told them they wanted more news. Why would they be adding talk?

  7. He has a great voice for radio, one of the best. Now for TV news. I have discovered another "heavenly body" hidden in the Bay Area News Galaxy, which comes into view only once in a while....Emily Turner, KPIX. Another beautiful woman in the Bay Area news arena. It just keeps getting better and better!!

  8. I would once again start listening to KGO if they bring back John Rothmann. We need his clear thinking and analysis in this very important election year. Can't believe KGO would actually do it - but I guess we can hope!

  9. Bringing Jon back makes way too much sense to increase listeners of KGO, therefore it will never happen. I am sure hoping to hear more infomercials on my vitamin B6 deficiency and the hucksters of pyramid schemes as I work in the yard and walk the dog.

  10. I am politically opposite of John Rothman but I find him to be compelling, highly intelligent, well informed and very respectful. I would definitely listen to him and I believe he would be a good fit as either a replacement for Owens or in the early evening time slot.

  11. Bring back 'What is good for Israel, is good for the USA' Rothman back to the regular airwaves.

  12. Pat and John was the best political talk ever on the Drex slot and they aren't even available to podcast. Great move guys.

  13. John Rothman is one of the few 'bright lights' in local talk radio. He's also still relatively young and passionate and not burnt out. KGO would be very smart to bring him back ASAP. Owens is probably going to be gone after this year as his contract is up. Rothman would be the perfect replacement.

  15. I love John Rothmann! But guess what! It'll never happen!!!

  16. Perhaps it will, I think he is already kind of on board, Pat has him on regularly, Ronn has him on at times as well, always on Presidents Day. Also I thought Pat referred to John as KGO's political analyst and a fill in host. Drex can go, Chip is so and so, Maureen is better than she use to be, but not great. Anyway some changes seem to be in the works for both KGO and KSFO, yesterday in Ethan's time slot, there was a rerun of Savage, and this morning Ethan was on KGO, calling it the Ethan Bearman show. Maureen is now on from 7 to 10 p.m. Any insight into this Rich?

  17. First, I just have to say I am really sick of stupid nasty useless comments like some of those here:
    - Leave Christine in the toilet that she deserves!!!
    - she seems to enjoy having him in her backdoor.
How about some moderation and get rid of the nasty comments. Only people who have nothing to say must resort to this kind of thing.

Second, I listened to John Rothmann before he was a regular on KGO, and I remember his first show was the day KGO changed their theme music ... I think back in the 90's for goodness sake. I've enjoyed aspects of his show, but I have to tell you there are things he does that just grate on my nerves. Like that "there is no place I'd rawthur be" and promouncing Pakistan as Pock-ee-ston. At this point I'd like him better if he would just admit he is a Republican. Putting it all together I like listening to John now and then but he is the kind of person who would lie about being a Democrat for 30 years to get a slot on Bay Area radio, that is he is a polite and knowledgeable hack.

Third, I've read his book when it came out, and even saw his lecture. It is a decent book except for one thing ... a completely fictionalized account of what the Middle East would be like today had Hitler and the Mufti won the war. In what is supposed to be a work of non-fiction I find it very weird that this fictionalized nonsense made its way into the book and was not edited out.

Finally, if John Rothmann was an actual Democrat or really understood what was happening in politics, and the Democratic Party I would think that he would be much more conversant, and inclusive of a message such as was published in the book by Thomas Franks, "Listen Liberal" which is very deeply researched and talks about the slow march rightward of the Democrats - away from the working man and the people and into the monied hands of the "corporatocracy".

I cannot help but love John because I've listened to him so much and for so long, and I've learned a lot from him, and I've always appreciated in talk radio how civil he is and not just like some of the hosts someone who takes calls and hangs up on people as fast as possible.

I am just not sure I would look forward to a whole show of John Rothmann if there were other choices out there ... BUT the completely superficial and frivolous programming that KGO has on now could only be helped by a John Rothmann show. What KGO has been doing since 2011 I think it was has been a mess. Glad they kept Ronn, and very happy they kept Pat Thurston but they seem to have forced Pat to be so "girly squirrely" I have to wonder if they are medicating her? Pat used to be so nonsense, but she seems lately like she is playing a role being silly and having so many silly shows when I think we who have listened to her know her to be capable of so much better programming.

Rothmann would be good in that overnight slot from 1 to 5 am maybe.

I am sorry they cannot bring back Gene Burns, I really got to like Gene a lot and he become one of my favorites when he stopped being a Libertarian and moved a bit left. Gene was a great conversationalist and had some really great interactions with guests and callers. Then of course they was Gil Gross who I started out not liking at all and who now of course is on 910 but does a very good show too.

And of course all of them are so much better than the junta programming stations that have Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, Savage, but especially bad is the evil demon Mark Levin who has no business hosting anything and should be banned from the airwaves. This is what has created the Donald Trump constituency and is a direct attempt to tear down the country.
