Disgust at KGO-TV over Dancing Anchors Zouves and Aqui; Pompous and Sanctimonious Frank Somerville; Armstrong and Getty: Strip Malls are Us; Michael Savage #1 on TSL; Monday Breakfast Opener

Many in the KGO-TV newsroom, I'm told by someone who knows and works there, are DISGUSTED by this--scroll down to Jan. 8 and watch Natasha Zouves and Reggie Aqui dance during a break and look like fools.

*Add the word, "sanctimonious" to "pompous"; Frank Somerville, who uses Facebook to appeal to his legion of sycophants.

Frank, unlike you, I'm open and happy with my strands of hair, el baldo de supreme --proud of it, in fact. Furthermore, plugs, I don't need to post pictures of my kids to justify whatever the hell I'm saying. Bye Mr. Burgundy.

*Quite geniuses at KTVU who think by referring to newscasts like, "The 9" and "The 4" will somehow make them unique. Yea, sure, just like cow chips come in different shapes and sizes.

*Hey Frank, just ask yourself this: "What would Fred Zehnder think?"

*The latest mush from TV News anchors: when talking about the mega jackpot and lamenting "I didn't win." It's so predictable and stupid too. You'll see this crap again and again when the next big jackpot comes around.

*Why do you come here? Because you like snarky --if it were the opposite, you'd skip this. So, as I tell various people, if you're looking for sweet and charming, go read Ben Bland Torres and give Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn and Copie a call.

*Damn right I'm miserable, go watch our local TV newscasts.

*David Bowie: damn.

*I hope I'm wrong: John Madden won't be back anytime soon on the radio.

*This is the article Cumulus hopes its SF (and beyond) doesn't read.

*"Treat people the way you want to be treated," says an old buddy. Apparently, KRON's management didn't get the memo.

*Again, the guy that every day on the radio talks about his kids; preaches in order to be just, you must have family and that gives you responsibility --if you don't espouse that formula, you might as not exist, in his words. Too bad he doesn't practice what he preaches. Ask the people of the Tenderloin.

*Michael Savage: TSL #-1 radio host. High fives at KSFO. I'm a fan. Deal with it.

*I don't hate all the anchors in town just most of them. Hair plugs or not.

*You can be quite terrific at your craft without making a fuss, without coming across as pompous and phony: ask Ken Wayne. Ditto, Anne Makovec and Carolyn Tyler.

*Speaking of Makovec, her and Phil Matier on Sunday morning KPIX: appointment TV. Or, in plain talk: talking to the audience like they are adults and having respect too. What a novel idea.

*You know, KRON has some really good reporters and anchors. They know I'm rooting for them, not the schmucks that wash used Bentleys and do the dirty work for sports guy.

*Too bad The 4 and The 9 didn't do some real good investigative packages --you know, material that counts but then again, Fox caters to morons so fugeeet about it.

*Between KRON's 20 weather reports per newscast and KTVU's 60 weather teases who the hell needs the Weather Channel here?

*Armstrong and Getty: strip malls are us.

*Gil Gross: radio Siberia.

*KNTV: (NBC Bay Area) not the splashiest news operation but pretty damn good reporters and anchors.

*Stacey Baier and Aaron Pero: birds of a feather...

*Next week Ben Blong Torres will do a 3000-word essay on Cumulus' toilets.

  1. Rich, Thank You for posting the great news of Michael Savage's ratings as No# 1 Radio Host. Dr. Savage is a man whose knowledge & popularity knows no bounds. And as for those who make false claims against Mr. Savage, you can kiss my ASS!!!

    2. TSL what? That's a useless metric. If one host has 5,000 listeners who tune in for 15 minutes, but another has 5 who listen to the whole show, the host with 5 is winning!

KGO, KSFO and KNBR are getting murdered in sellable demos especially the two talkers.

      MURDERED.

    3. Does this mean Savage will be thumping his chest this whole week in self adulation? He does that enough as it is! It comes across as extremely insecure. Word is his contract won't be renewed and if it is it'll be at a huge cut.

  2. In other words, Madden's doctors won't let him go on the air and talk about the final four NFL teams let alone the Super Bowl. Sad. Although, obviously nowhere near as much as the world needs more "Heroes" forever and ever. RIP, Thin Duke.

  3. This morning on KTVU Gasia Mikabigboobs and Dave "OJ's my buddy" Clark opened the "newscast" by talking about Dave's manipedi. Real important stuff there . . .

And on KNBR, sports talk? What's that? No, the inane Pop Culture Showdown, dude.

    1. I turned the radio off on the way to work when they announced the stupid pop culture showdown for Clemson and Alabama. And leave to Murph and Mac to give a Bowie tribute citing only his most popular FM songs.

  5. I Don't see the problem with the two anchors dancing. In fact it was the best I have seen since Holly Michaels does her little twerk dance while...

  7. Re: Cumulus. The most truthful paragraph in the article and evidence that it didn't happen just here:
Some critics said that after its Citadel acquisition, which added several large-market radio stations, Cumulus scrimped on programming and labor costs and fired or lost popular radio talent in key markets, including New York and Washington, D.C.

  8. HOLY SHIT! What a post. Loved the rips on Benny the Chinese/Latino. He deserves it so much. Today was about telling the truth and if you can't handle it, leave the room.

  9. Spot on regarding Frank "I have hair plugs and I am open about it" Sommerville. Sanctimonious and vain are the exact words to describe him and his daily facebook posts. He says that while at berkeley high he was jumped and beaten by a bunch of black guys yet he always says he is color blind. Extremely annoying. I used to like the guy when he just read the news. The reason his facebook page exploded in popularity in the first place was when he posted a picture of himself working on his black daughter's hair. Good Gad!
As to the bloated one. Has anyone thought that perhaps he is entitled to park the bentley in the handicapped parking spot? Did everyone forget about the "claw"?

  10. You just know that celebrities that go way out of their way to "do good," or do too much of it are trying to convince you THEY ARE GOOD and are hiding some deep dark secret that surely proves THEY AREN'T.

  11. "Back in the day"...at the old KNTV (late-80's-early 90's) Ken Wayne was a pretty damn good reporter...and a whole lot of fun to work with out in the field.

  12. In case no one ever told you (you being anyone) popularity does not equal talent. Popularity shows the taste and intelligence or lack thereof.

There is very little on the radio that is worth listening to. Unless you like being pummeled by commercials, the same songs over and over and self-important loudmouths spewing their vitriol, regardless of what side of the fence they are on.

If you have caught the ear of the masses you have really done nothing special. The masses do not want to be challenged. They want to be programmed and sedated.

  13. I think the Zouves/Aqui dance piece during the commercial break is just a tester and a prelude to what KGO really wants to do during the morning show. Specifically, to emulate and implement something that other stations have already done, namely a "Dance Party Friday" to close out the week. This has been a staple on at least two stations in Southern California, KTLA (Los Angeles) and FOX5 (KSWB San Diego), both owned by Tribune Broadcasting, at the end of their Friday morning shows. But I'm not sure the the Bay Area TV market, considered rather reserved compared to their counterparts in SoCal, is ready for something like this. They do things differently in SoCal, where infotainment (with much more emphasis on entertainment than information) rules the TV airwaves in the morning. However you can get an inkling of what two stations in the Bay Area, namely KTVU and KGO are trying to push for now -- and that is to look like something very similar to KTLA. Not sure the viewers will go for programming like that but I have a feeling you're going to be seeing a lot more of this type of "newscast" in the future.

To give you an example of what I'm talking about and what's headed your way, take a look at these two clips:

  19. Give John Madden time, he'll be back. My dad had the same surgery about nine months ago, and it took him a good 3-4 months to get back to full strength. He's in far better shape than he's been in a long time.

  20. I miss Eric and Kristen. Despite how dysfunctional their relationship behind the scenes may have been, they just WORKED on air. They are both news veterans and there's something to be said about that. It's called credibility. Plus, they called certain news stories into question--not afraid to challenge the incompetent morning executive producer. 7's morning show is a complete joke with Reggie and Natasha. They're too young, they're not going to challenge anybody and they'll allow the show to run as the complete freak circus it's slowly turning into. Pathetic.

  21. If Cumulus wants people to listen to 107.7 The Bone all five hours on Saturday and Sunday they're going to have to be a lot nicer to people.

  22. NBC Bay Area does a good job. The Star Wars plugs on ABC7 caused me to change channels, I was pleasantly surprised on their low key approach to the news. CBS5 is a joke.
