Bay Area: The No Sense of Humor Society; KQED is KQED; Willie Brown and the Chronicle Thought; 30-Year Anniversary of Sylvia Chase and the Old KRON; Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnn's Gadget Orgasm; Thursday Munch

WECLOME TO THE SF BAY AREA: Land of some people with no sense of humor.

Remember, they stop on the freeway to see the bodies--they're not looking for roses.

*If what I'm hearing is half-accurate, then KQED is in one of their KQED modes which doesn't bode well for the rank and file.

*The Chronicle is all gaga over their BART-has-dummy-surveillance cameras. A good story. For about a day. Not two weeks.

*Even grumpy old Chester at Tommy's thought the relationship/affair post was funny, so there.

*If all I were to write about was the crappy media here then I'd really be down in the dumps so an occasional romp through the woods is OK. And don't be so damn PC, 'yall, this isn't Salt Lake City. Yet.

*Between the Julia Child voice at KGO-TV; the relentless divas at KRON and KTVU and the pompous Frank, we've got a doozy here in the 415 and 510.

*Today on Facebook, Somerville will post a picture of two garden snails making out in a Marin backyard. Then he'll say "Folks, this is why we live here--the love and value..." Or something like that, and a thousand sycophants will tell Frank how much they care. (Pass the barf bag)

*Trust me, don't bullshit a bullshitter.

*I'm sure if Willie Brown became embroiled in some sort of investigation, the Chronicle would cover it without the slightest bias. Sure, pass me some of your Powerball winnings.

*The same people who get pissed off and riled up by a blogger's innocuous rant are the same people who probably watch Wheel of Fortune.

*KRON: yeah, of course that new weather hire has LA roots so she'll be down and out to the 310 sometime sooner or later.

*KPIX: Did they run a Super Bowl promo? I haven't seen one in 5 minutes.

*You know, KTVU has new promos of anchors with black grease under their eyes. I don't know if they can talk like a pirate though.

*FOX is to O and O news operations what the Academy is to Olivia Munn.

*Speaking of which you know everyone's gonna watch Chris Rock's opening monologue where he'll hit it out of the park.

*30 years since the debut of Sylvia Chase at the old KRON. Damn, time flies. About the last time that KRON was relevant, thanks Herb Dudnick.

*Or, the last time Lee Housekeeper took out his wallet.

*Housekeeper, the only person who reads Leah Garchick. Well, OK, Jerry Nachman too.

*Leah had a busy week; the luncheon at the Marin Social Club; chocolate candy at Charlotte Shultz' place in the Marina and a bowl of soup at Pickwick. That's about 12 columns right there.

*Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Lowenstein Owens had a HUGE ORGASM today: the GADGET MAN was on. Gadgets and Copie, Mr. Softie has the life.

*THIS JUST IN: Frank Somerville has posted a picture of a woman in Cleveland who can simultaneously make love and water her tulips. Now that is real and s.p.e.c.i.a.l.

*Bill Martin: "I never met a weather tease I didn't like." Right, Pechner?

*Allen Martin: Every woman's first husband.

*I go the barber every few weeks because I don't like hair, I like the bald look. So, attention, Frank and your amen corner, the bald attacks don't work. Get your 415 Media info straight boys and girls.

*If calling out the prima donnas in this market and exposing their insecurities is my gig, I'm all for it because I know all about insecurity and ego.

*Reggie Aqui: yeah, now there's a real TV guy.

*Jason Middleton: Ronnnnnn's radio bitch. (Sucky, sucky). Middleton: where you go to buy brown toilet paper on Battery and Broadway.

*95.7 FM "The Game": No ratings but corporate is profitable; KNBR: ratings but corporate almost nearing bankruptcy --the radio Titanic.

*KNBR drinking game: every time Murph and Mac say "dude": punch drunk.

*Jan Wahl: She'll never host a financial show.

*Hey Ronnnnnnnnnn, tell us about your first experience with a gadget!

I was wondering when you were going to comment on that. That sound you heard rolling across the hills was Dennis Richmond laughing his ass off.

    1. Jan Wahl & Karel should team up to do a show called "Jan & Friends", & Karel can be the distant "friend" that no one likes with poo on his driveway.

    2. Just wondering ... Who is pregnant now at KPIX??

  2. KPIX: More pregnant white people. No color on the mornings.

  3. I never understood why Leah Garchik has a job. Her columns are a waste of space, and about nothing. And she dresses like a Marina hipster, which she certainly is NOT.

  4. You seem to be a fan of Chip Franklin. God, why?

  5. have you noticed" the game" no longer is affiliated with ESPN

  6. Add to the Murph and Mac drinking game every time Murph repeats, "Yeah, yeah," in his fanboy pubescent voice and you'd have finished a bottle in about 15 minutes - And that's including KNBR commercial breaks!

It's probably easy to remain profitable with no ratings when you employ people who won a contest to be on the air.

    1. The Guru is so awful. Embarrassing to listen to on the radio.

    2. Except in sellable demos the stations are very close and the game younger across the board. It's no secret the game in far and away better from the talent and entertainment perspective. Knbr has the teams. That's not programming. That's corporate spending.

    3. The Guru is a joke.

He's the opposite of Ratto and equally awful.

    4. "Except in sellable demos the stations are very close and the game younger across the board."

I imagine the Game would skew younger when so-called talent like Lund and Papa directly target the elementary school crowd with their tired and sophomoric gimmicks like caboose pistol.

  8. This one will make you laugh, Rich: Paul Deanno says during a forecast, "Look at that rain falling on your television screen! See that? That is the rain being forecast." It was a computer animation of raindrops.

Wow, we even get excited now about CGI rain.

  9. Rich, we never used weather teases when i Produced the weather at KTVU before Martin and never used them when I was broadcasting on KCBS. Theory was the weather spoke for itself, you don't have to tease the hell out of it.

    1. The KTVU weather teases wouldn't be so bad if they had someone less irritating than "laid-back, misspeaking, hemming and hawwing, transposing numbers and forgetting what day it is on a nightly basis" Bill Martin. When the guy can figure out such weighty concepts as the correct order of 'Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday', he's sort of adequate, sometimes.

Not everyone. Besides, the network will bleep most of it. Waste of time to even tune in.

  13. Willie Brown, how has he avoided prosecution all these years?? He's the most corrupt of all of them, even when out of office...amazing.

  14. I'll bet anyone KNBR would trade ratings with The Game right now. #trending

  15. The Game's ratings? ESPN just dumped them. There best on air talent is Greg Papa and if/when the Raiders leave so will Greg. The bump 95.7 got was due to the Raiders being a better team. As I said if/when they move out of town or move to another station 95.7 will loose all the Raiders fans.
