You Dumb Ass Morons Who Were Seduced by The Elephant Seal Story; Bay Area Media Shame goes Overboard (Again)

You are morons. All of you. Or, as Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us." All because of this; the elephant seal standoff, better known as what local TV News does in this area to fill time when there's no other news to report.

Sadly, we've been down this road before with another critter calamity, you think we'd have learned.

BUT NOooooo!

Let me stop you before you accuse me of being insensitive toward animals. Stop. Quit the whining and insincere self-pity. Please. The elephant seal, just like Humphrey doesn't give a crap about you. Never has, never will. Which is precisely why I'm aghast at all the coverage. Not surprised, mind you, because in the so-called land of sophistication we have a bunch of idiots.

You all. Morons!

The seal story was quite legit. For about five minutes. Then it quickly entered into the theatre of absurd with reporters, some good-intentioned folks, went berserk and began acting like a pack of idiots! In the process, they once again gave significant ammo to why everyone hates the media.

Morons.

Pathetic, idiotic, morons --go back to your smart phones and call Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnn Owens and talk like a pirate.

  1. All that, plus...the "stand-off" went way too long. They could have tranqed that seal within the first hour and been done with it.

  2. There actually IS plenty of other news to report. But real investigative journalism costs money. Watching a seal cross the road is nearly free.

  4. As you said, the seal story was good for five, maybe ten minutes. We need not go all "Cecil-the-Lion" over him. This is what happens to people who don't have God or compassion for other PEOPLE in their lives. These are Barbara Boxer type voters, who will drain the Santa Clara area sacrificing crop growth, in order to save another parasite that lives on a larvae of Minnows!

  5. Whether in this story or many animal-rescue ads especially prevalent during the Christmas season, anthropomorphism has become a popular mechanism to evoke emotional responses that shape behavior in a particular direction. To promote "charitable" contributions before year's end, media/advertising executives surreptitiously appeal to the guilt motive by ascribing human characteristics to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena. This type of narrative is otherwise called a "fable."

  7. The majority in this area are registered Democrats, they're just feeding them what they can handle intellectually. Morons, dumbasses, Rich hit the nail on the head.

  8. So 10:25am, you are suggesting the media pushed an elephant seal into on-coming traffic to encourage more change for bell ringers?

You give the media way too much credit. Most days they are just hoping to hang on to their mic flags.

    You first, Rich.

  10. The better idea is to call Mr (how many photos can I take with celebrities) Owens and talk about cell phone use while driving.

  12. It was a pretty dumb waste of time. Much more important things to talk about. Like how I just realized Kris Sanchez from NBC Bay Area news is pretty hot! My new favorite newscaster!

    1. Like. Not my favorite (I like Peggy Bunker and Heather Holmes) but Kris is hot too.

  13. I liked the story. Persistent wild animal snarls traffic, eventually gets anesthetized and relocated. So far a happy ending.

  14. I don't know - I'd rather watch that than something with a "pro" and "anti" side yelling at each other.
The truth of it though, is nothing is going on this week. News sources are out for the week, mucky mucks in newsrooms are out. Better than coverage of post-Christmas sales.

  15. Thank goodness for the New York Times. Real journalism. Money spent chasing after real stories, not tripe crap like a seal on the loose.

Hey Audrey! You read the NYT? Rub it in the right place and it might give you inspiration for that piece of shit Chronicle of yours. It will do something else at least, maybe.

  16. I was stuck in this mess yesterday and as I inched by I could see the state workers all laughing and the media people with serious business looks on their faces...
The media with all the rubberneckers made the whole thing a huge farce!

  17. When I worked in Florida TV alligators in the street were only worth a :25 VO, possibly a 1:30 PKG, depending on the "unusual" circumstances. I agree that BA animal coverage is way out of control. Seal in the road, got it. Done. Next!

  18. It's Anchorman come to life.

I'm reminded of Fred Willard's character screaming, "I WANT THAT PANDA BIRTH LIVE DAMMIT..."

  19. I saw "Dumb Ass Morons" and "Elephant Seal" in the headline and thought this post was about Donald Trump and his followers. But, it was about a REAL elephant seal. Glad I missed it. Local news sucks.

  20. I like you better Rich, when you sing the praise of John Rotman (whom by the way, seem to fill in more and more on KGO) than when you get so worked up about the poor lost elephant seal, so it is not WWIII breaking out, but it is a feel good story, especially here at the Holidays, I just heard the coverage on the radio, and didn't think it was over the top, liked how they followed up, so I knew what happened. After all the bad news lately Isis, Paris attack, San Bernadino etc. I think it was a nice story, so some news station went over the top, I get that. Perhaps, they too were worn out with all the bad news and welcomed a warm and fuzzy story, at least for those of us who like animals. I get your critic of the coverage, I don't get the anger.

  22. I don't see much in regard to Andria Borba on this site. She is the most insufferable reporter in this market. Where I thought Roberta Gonzales was painful, this Borba woman is excruciating. Her segments are long on cute and short on substance. When she reported that this "pinniped" had been nicknamed by her "speed bump", what the hell kind of reporting is that?

This is a salty woman, and a terrible reporter. REPORT, don't editorialize.

  23. I barely remember yesterday. I do recall the parking lot incident. Kinda loud as I recall. Leslie Griffith and Mark Ibanez were the combatants. What is the rest of that story? Inquiring minds, mine, want to know.
    Welcome back. Good one today.
