While the bloated 9-Noon KNBR guy drives a Bentley --it's nice to know his underlings have to moonlight to make ends meet.
Seems both producers David Feldhouse and the sports update guy Ryan Covay both moonlight as Uber drivers.
One of them has "hundreds" of trips under his belt, while the other is a recent driver for Uber.
They spent ten minutes yapping about their experiences and ratings on Uber during Wednesday's post-Warriors game show.
Swell.
Sadly, that's what is going on in major market radio these days. They won't even pay the producers or part time update guys a decent enough wage, so they have to have another job on the side. But then, 20-30 year ago, it would have been very tough from these kids hired today to get any kind of a job, other than an internship or board op in the 6th largest radio/TV market in the country.
ReplyDeleteWith deregulation, downsizing, and cheap owners not caring a whit about quality (let alone serving the public, which is mandated by their FCC approved licenses), these Mega companies such as Clear Channel, Cumullus, Infinity, and so many more are ruining a once proud and vibrant industry,
Yes, I understand that many of the 'mellennials' don't rely much on radio anymore, and are engrossed in their 'smart phones' but there is no excuse for gutting stations, especially the larger ones like KNBR, KCBS and KGO of veteran talent, depriving the public of quality and accurate up to date information, (that I might add is also credible), and replacing them with youngsters who will work on the cheap.
Thanks to Bill Clinton for ill-advisedly signing the Communications Act of 1995. It has ruined radio and TV for now and the longterm future. Another reason why so many citizens of this country are not getting accurate, credible news from trained, experienced broadcast journalists.
That's a dangerous thing, and it's also obvious that the USA is becoming more and more attention challenged, and dare I day it…stupid? If dysfunctional, loudmouth, attention-craving whores such as Trump can actually be in the running for the most important job on the face of this planet, what does that say about us as a nation? It's almost a sure thing that this guy wouldn't be even close to viable, if the media hadn't turned from responsible reporting to the tabloid mentality that has taken over these downsized operations. People now get their info from places that are NOT credible, and most of them have lots and lots of young kids working for cheap behind the scenes, doing much of the 'grunt' work.
SAD, SAD, SAD!!!
You are a moron.
DeleteAre you of the mind that if radio and television weren't deregulated in 1996 it was never going to happen? Furthermore, Congress writes laws that the President signs. Newt Gingrich's House passed the law, where bills begin, which ultimately signed by the President in what is called a "bipartisan agreement."
Get a grip.
If you think the death of radio is the telecom act then you are clearly delusional.
Well said. Deregulation and then centralization into companies with hundreds of companies didn't deliver the promised economics of scale and have wrecked an industry. Radio has always been a very local product working best with local talent and local advertising. These idiots thru that model out the window and their consolidation models have the two largest conglomerates Cumulus and I-Heart (Clear Channel) on the verge of bankruptcy.
DeleteOh Horseshit.
DeleteBill Clinton was a buffoon. Most Democrats are in the pockets of wealthy donors and businessmen as well. They like to spin it and make you think its all the Repubs that are tho. Many D's made alot of money off that deal.
Delete@12:54 is correct in what he says, you @2:11, are the ignorant moron. Clinton signing that bill wasn't an unnoticed event at the time. His, and later FCC chairman Michael Powell's, actions were correctly predicted to be travesties for the future of this country.
DeleteWell, Uber is sociable. Maybe they want to meet some chicks. Seems like a good way to get exposure, you can have conversation, don't have to buy the girl a drink, and may get a lot of info, like where she lives or works depending on the time of day. Kind of like stalking without stalking. Those Uber guys have it all figured out.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a better situation then trying to talk to girls on the bus.
Bus chicks are hairy and crazy. Kinda like KGO Radio chicks.
DeleteGirls on the bus tend to have conversations with themselves.
DeleteI know more people that drive for Uber than people who take the damn thing. With so many drivers, I'm surprised there's any cabs left anymore. Is there enough rides for them to make a living?
ReplyDeleteSO they want to make some extra $ who doesn't?
ReplyDeleteUber is pushing for automated cars bigtime. That's going to be thousands of job losses when that hits. Thanks Dems, sell more of this country out and put the new citizens that are driving for Uber out of jobs. Bring them in to stuff the ballot box and then put them out of work and on government assistance.
ReplyDeleteHow do they, or anyone, working 3 hours a day as a producer or board op make enough to live on? Even in the old days, how did the older experienced guys make a go of it?
ReplyDeletedoes the lesbian girl have to drive a taxi also or does she get paid enough?
ReplyDeleteHas bugged me for a long time that Radnich drives a Bentley while sending his daughter to a $25k per year school because that's what was in her budget... Cheap jerk thinks his wheels are more important...
