Forget The Spin, Cheryl Jennings Was Shown The Door; KGO Anchor Made Too Much Money, a Disney/ABC No-No

 NO MATTER HOW MUCH SHE WANTS TO SPIN IT, Cheryl Jennings departure from the KGO (ABC7) anchor desk was, in fact, a demotion. She can take part in corny, on-air send-offs and receive awards from the industry and politicians --and let's face it, she had a long and enduring career--I'll give her credit--but she was told to hit the streets from Disney/ABC higher-ups. Why? Because she was making too much money and was in her twilight years, at least for a woman in her mid to late 60's. There's only one Diane Sawyer.

Frankly, I was sure Jennings was a goner a year ago. (I was wrong, if only by the time element, but I was wrong nonetheless) I soon found out later that ABC and Jennings put things off for a year; ABC was worried about the bad PR fallout and only later agreed to Jennings staying on as a "special projects" correspondent so it would appear that she wasn't really shown the door, but she was.

It is this simple: ABC (and they're not the only network) isn't fond of paying local TV News anchors big money especially if they skew "old" --it's not just Jennings. Spencer Christian is not long for 900 Front. Yeah, it's a cruel world.

    besides diane sawyer there is also lesley stahl, in her 70's and still an active television journalist.

      Uh, hate to break it to you silly Matt, but Christine's 71 y/o, sharp as a whip, a full time lawyer, p/t talk show host, lectures at colleges and active swimmer. WTF do you do in your sad little pathetic life?

      I couldn't take more than 5 minutes of the cackling and talking over anyone with facts against the DNC machine last night on KGO. Do they get complaints over shows like that?

      Wavy, then tune out and go to the 560 Obama hate fest all nite: Hannity, Beck and the Red Eye clowns. We need more progressive radio. Tired of all the Con crap. Drexck is back, so that means Pat is back to her weekend gig. Bummer.

      Progressive radio is a failure just like it's ideologies. Progressives don't really care about you. They'll sell you down the river and stumble over 10 non-citizens just for the votes. Anything to stay in power, right? The sooner you wake up, the better. I fear it's too late for you tho.

    I assumed when a personality leaves the anchor desk to "contribute special projects" and "reports" that's the equivalent of gone. Like "The Caine Mutiny's" Captain Queeg, he or she "will continue to be treated with all respect" but has been forced to go below until the ship pulls into port.

    To repeat, with Cheryl Jennings gone, I will NEVER again watch ABC news. Let's see, how old are many men still sitting at news desks? This SF ABC station is brain dead.
