KGO Radio Has Been Off The Air For Almost An Hour If You Care; UPDATE: Still Off The Air; Cal Football Game Looming

KGO has been off the air for almost an hour.

Maybe that's a good thing.

UPDATE: 11: 30 AM PT:

KGO is still off the air--there's a Cal football game tonight (Thursday) at 6 PM PT --we assume they'll be back on --if not, a whole bunch of Old Blues might raise hell.

  1. I was listening when it went down. It was an interesting topic, too.

15 minutes later I was thinking "how fucking bush league is this bullshit".

  2. Hey guys, don't cross the blue wire with the red wire.

  3. They are taking calls live if one happens to be listening on the internet. Traffic reports and commercials included.. Bet those advertisers will be getting substantial rebates, refunds, or make-up commercials.

  5. Was it a stunt to drive up ratings for the short term?
Get everybody to chanting, "I Want My KGO!!"

  8. Back on air @ 11:44, then to make up lost revenue, they began playing 16 solid minutes of "karsforkids" and Pat Vittucci spots

  9. KGO is off the air? Who cares.
That is one less minute of Ronn Owens.
Who wants to hear another segment of his critique of Survivor.

  10. 107.7 The Bone, a Cumulus station was down yesterday am for a short time, also. Cost cutting measure ... thank you Obama. If youre getting close to retirement, take it now while you have a choice. Find another job and bank the retirement or reinvest it ... or, you could live in a tent in my backyard ... rent is really low. I'll get you a Portapotty. It's the "New World Order." Everybody will be poor.

  11. Sadly, I didn't even notice- there was another f'n kars-4-kids commercial (possibly the 97th, but I lost count at 35) and I changed the station and never went back.

    1. I'm sick and tired of you always referring to Pat Thurston as the housewife, you might not like her show, you might disagree with her politics, but that is no reason to bash her, and being chauvinist about her to booth. Pat is an intelligent woman, and she has a good show. Frankly, my understanding is she does not exactly need the money. If you don't like her don't listen. As for the ship sinking, perhaps, but frankly as other stations get worse, especially 910, KGO sounds better. It is a shadow of it's former self, but Brian is very good, and he is local, Ronn still does a good show at times, especially when he talks politics, Chip Franklin is funny and can be entertaining, although at noon I usually switch to Tom Sullivan (1530 am Sacramento) although I disagree with his politics about 90 percent of the time, I do like his show. Drex is a disaster, but he has not been on much lately, Maureen Langdon is getting better, but for the most part I don't listen to her show. However, as for stations, there isn't much to choose from. KSFO is on long liberal bashing, with no degree of objective thought. 910 gets worse and worse every time the make a change. Now Gil is on 4 hours in the morning, and as bad as he is, he one of the best on that station, not counting Alan Colmes, but his show is syndicated. I like Armstrong and Getty and sometime listen for an hour or so, but 4 hours, and 1 hours rerun, give me a break. Joel and Corey talks about absolutely nothing of substance or interest, and the new guys seem to fall into that category. I listen to them a couple of times, but they could not hold my interest for more than 5-10 minutes. So KGO might be sinking, but I certainly think they are better than KSFO and 910, actually 1530 in Sacramento is a pretty decent station, they are also a Cumulus station, but seem to have been able to hold on to most of their programming and hosts from years ago.

  17. They were probably waiting for their contract engineer to arrive from Paso Robles, or some other cheaper location, to fix the only transmitter they have left. Gotta cut costs, you know.

    1. Bill Bordeaux from Paso Robles and contract engineer for most all of San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria County radio would have done a fine job if asked. He should have been president of Sandusky Engineering back in the days. Bright, experienced guy who's taught much and helped others learn.

    2. By Paso Robles do you mean Tijuana?

The engineer was stuck at the border.

  18. Maybe they "forgot" to pay the electric bill. I really do miss the old talk radio days. What puzzles me is why anyone would listen to KGO at all. There are no must hear people and the reporting can be had elsewhere.

What is the reason for a corporation to even keep the lights and RF energy on?
