El Nino BS; Where was all the Rain Wednesday? Speaking of BS, Ronn Owens; Christina Loren Update; Chronicle Cooper EIC Wuss; KTVU Internal Issues W/O Pirate Talk; Krasny And The KQED Fill-In Host; Thursday 415 Media Start

Why to be wary of El Nino forecasts of a deluge this winter: every schmuck weather person in town said the Bay Area would get "fairly significant" rain on Wednesday. How did that work out? My windshield wiper fluid gave out more water than the storm front. Please, DON'T trust the weather minions.

*Christine Loren is happy to be back on the air--yes, it's RFD-TV, but it's one agri weather report I'll watch.

*Got to love the yahoos that say it's against the law to rip Ronn Owens because he's battling Parkinson's disease. It was Owens who pleaded he didn't want sympathy. Besides, one has nothing to do with the other. He's been back on the air for months. He just had his 40th anniversary on KGO. The on-air "celebration" was a joke. Several people at KGO (especially in the newsroom) were put off by the on-air hijinks and bullshit fest. Did you know inside the "Ronn Owens Studio" that the host ignored repeated requests to acknowledge his peers from the old KGO? The legitimate pre-2011 KGO? Gees, I wonder why. Did Owens mention past KGO greats he worked with, like Owen Spann, Jim Eason, Jim Dunbar? Not a peep. Did he mention the loyal producers who assisted his butt? Not a peep. Did he say squat about Jack Swanson or Gary Fiset or some of the other luminaries? Nope. He did mention about 600 times "how big an ego I have." How impressive.

Look, I wish Ronn no physical hell.. I hope he gets better. His medical ails have zero to do with the other pressing issues. He boasted about a "new contract" which is all bullshit because his new "deal" is essentially Cumulus-controlled --they can drop him at moment's notice just as soon as the ratings get worse and his sycophantic in-house amen corner get tired of him and stop the giggling.

*The reason Brian Copeland only seems to talk about race is because that's the only thing Copie knows, besides of course, kissing Ronnnnnnnnnnn's ass and praising Bill Cosby.

*Chronicle EIC, Audrey Cooper: "Rich, I don't consider you a 'real journalist." Yeah, Audrey, only journalists copy and paste articles from press releases and place their by-lines at the top of the story. Us bloggers are far less talented. Someone explain to this moron broad why the newspapers are dying and how they let doofuses like this chick into the building.

*I love women journalists. In fact, I'm dating Christine Amanpour.

*Yeah, KTVU Weekend 'MO2' this Saturday morning. Ought to be just crazy on the set. I'm hearing "Talk like a Pirate" will seem rather god-damned tame compared to the on-air histrionics planned for Halloween morning--Ahr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*FOX Network officials made it clear from the start that once they took over several stations (like KTVU) their immediate mandate was to significantly slash payroll. No one is safe; even highly-paid anchors and tenured reporters and so you can imagine why the environment at KTVU is besieged with fear and tension. No one can talk too, even reliable sources who fear retaliation and retribution from the GM and ND. It's going to get worse too when the union issues come to the forefront and "stars" have to make hard decisions. So far, the ratings are still good (in the evening and morning) but late afternoon is a mess.

*It bears repeating: KSFO is solidly BEATING KGO these days --try to grasp that.

*The KQED "Forum" host, Michael Krasny factoid: A former well-respected, fill-in host, one that got thrown out the door largely via Krasny directives, went on to have years and years of therapy because she couldn't rid herself of constant PSS flashbacks. To this day, she's still fearful.

    1. I like Brian, I think he is informed, thoughtful and intelligent. Earlier when Brian filled in for Ronn for several weeks, Rich praised him, all of sudden he is very critical of him, to be fair, I have been reading this blog for about 4 years, and most of the time Rich has been very critical of Brian, but then Rich is very critical of almost anybody on the air these days, which is fine. I just find if you don't want to listen right wing talking point, (Rush, Hannity, Levin) or a paran
ooid Glen Beck, or inane chatter about nothing of substance, (Drex, Joel and Corey and the 2 new guys on 910) or Gil's 4 hours monolog, who is left, and how bad are they. Certainly compared to the above mentioned host both Brian and Ronn are much more interesting and engaging. These days I prefer Brian over Ronn, although I like Ronn when he talks politics. Yes, Brian talks about race a lot, but for the most part I think he is spot on and fair. As someone that came to the US East Cost in late sixties, from Northern Europe, it is a subject I find interesting, and have a hard time understanding the complicated relationship of race in the US. Of course the story about Tadich Grill is very local and should be talked about, I have been to Tadich perhaps 2-3 times years ago, but Brian was the right host to talk about it.

    2. What about Chip, 10:16? Are you a fan?

    3. I like Chip, but often listen to Tom Sullivan at that hour, if I can listen.
He is conservative, but I find him fair, and a nice personality (as opposed to Savage or Rush) he also often has more interesting subjects than Chip, so although not a fan of Chip, I do listen at times.

    4. Tom Sullivan is good-humored but a little boring. He's better when he interviews people on TV. I turn the channel when he's on the radio.

  3. You are hitting it out of the park, Dick. Nice job AGAIN.

Tell Audrey Cooper to give herself a Sunday newspaper enema (it's not that big anymore, so she can get it up her tight little asshole) while sticking the Friday paper in her vajayjay (see Sunday).

    1. I find it interesting that Rich continues to edit the comments that appear in this blog, but blatantly sexist, disgusting comments like this one appear regularly. Way to go Rich.

    2. Right on @5:42.
It's disappointing that Lieberman aggressively censors any comments the least bit critical of himself but happily publishes everything else, no matter how distinguishing, offensive or just plain stupid.

  4. Just because we don't have one rain prediction come true doesn't mean El Nino is "BS," the same way just because we have one summer of moderate weather doesn't mean global warming is BS.

    1. It's not an exact science, and consequently blown weather forecasts happen on occasion. But I get Rich's point. I heard more than one meteorologist state, with conviction, that we were going to have a "gullywasher" on Wednesday. And numerous meteorologists have predicted "above average rainfall" prior to some of the recent drought stricken seasons. When those types of bold predictions (from high-paid personnel) fall flat, people are going to get a little critical.

  5. It might not be illegal to rip Ronn Owens under the circumstances but it sure as hell is in bad taste and petty.

  6. @11:00 AM I strongly disagree. It's clear one of the reasons Ronn first mentioned it is because of what happened to Ralph Barbieri after HE mentioned he had it and then got fired. That's the reality. Deal with it. Cumulus knows if they fire Ronn after his announcement, he will sue them and cause a long drawn out legal battle. If you don't like what Rich has to say, DON'T READ his damn blog! I too am sorry Ronn is sick (who wouldn't be) but come on, Ronn must know he needs every bargaining chip he can get right now to keep his job.

    1. And I strongly disagree with YOU, 11:27. 11:00 nailed it.

And BTW, WTF? If we don't like what Rich has to say, we can't read his blog or disagree with his eternal negativity? Rich always has the option to delete anything here.

    2. 1127: Right on! If you don't like reading Lieberman, go somewhere else. He's no different than any of us. He'll milk the financial cow as long as he can. Shoot, he's been mailing it in for the longest time and now he's got a crutch he can lean on. He needs as much money as possible so he can drive up to that North Beach restaurant, demand food to go and leave. Karma will get him.

  7. It amazes me how many people don't understand El Nino....it's not one storm. In fact most research states El Nino doesn't kick in until late Dec more into Jan and goes until March. It is also usually stronger south of the Bay Area although some of the current models are showing the Bay Area should do well in the rain portion.

As for all Bay Area forecasters calling for a lot of rain Weds-Steve Paulson was very honest last week and said he wouldn't bet on a lot of rain because the storm was breaking apart. Rich, I think the key is looking to an actual meteorologist with a degree versus someone who just forecasts the weather based off the NWS forecast discussion or what the likes of Accuweather put out from their offices in PA.

  8. I hear Ronn owns a dog. I'll bet if you hang around his neighborhood you might find the dog wandering around off leash. Time it just right and you might get the opportunity to kick it. After all, Ronn owns it..so it makes sense.

  9. The weather reports are the main reason I watch the local evening news and I usually watch KTVU, The Chief Meteorologist, Jeff Ranieri, is pretty good and generally accurate. My problem with many of the local stations (including KTVU) is the myopic focus only on the Bay Area. The El Nino forecasts and analysis are predicting a much stronger rainfall year in Southern California than the Bay Area. In fact, they have already had some huge storms and little coverage (except national news type coverage) is shown in Southern California. I'd like to see all of the state weather, rain and sun, and especially analysis of what impact large amounts rain in the south will have on the drought if any..

  12. Never heard them say "significant amounts" of rain, in fact many were saying that the storm could miss the area. The NOAA was calling for only a 30-60% chance of rain depending on which part of the Bay Area. The highest total predicted was .2", it fell short of that of course.

  13. Rich is definitely a real journalist who used to work in radio long before this blog. People just don't take you seriously but that's their problem!

And he only does race topics for the last 20 years because he has nothing else... Did you know that he grew up black in the Bay Area?... ZZZzzzzzzzz

  15. Meteorologist Mike PechnerOctober 29, 2015 at 10:06 PM

The confusion with Wednesdays weather system was the initial forecast of entrainment of moisture from former Hurricane Olaf off the Mexican coast. Once it was determined that there wasNO connection, any chance of any significant rain was out of the question. Interestingly enough AFTER the NWS said that this NOT going to happen, Bill Martin on KTVU said IT WAS part of this weather system Tues. night and went with the rain, and of course he was wrong.

  16. Rich, I don't think you are being fair to Brian, he came out against Bill Crosby long time ago, granted after several accusations, but when it became obvious that Bill Cosby had indeed acted in a disgusting and possible criminal way, Brian went on the air and basically said he was done with Mr. Cosby. Also I certainly think Brian knows more than race issues, I like him on many subjects. I like your blog, and I understand you are mostly blogging critic of the media. However, if you think Brian only knows or talks about race, then I think Michael Savage only talks about Obama, liberals being mentally deranged, and we are being overrun my immigrants, which for me makes for boring radio, besides Savage is very negative, and rants and raves too much. Brian at least has a sense of humor, and he does talk about other subjects.
