  1. Oh, how the (once) mighty has fallen. The (once) "Mighty Wurlitzer" has become a mere Fisher-Price toy. Moving the deck chairs won't do a think. Drex & Heather need to dust off that resume. Ronn, hang it up. There is no "stimulation" on Radio 810 anymore. Goodbye Dallas reporters and traffic tonsils. Good think Karel is gone -- KGO would be down to a 1.0 share. Hey, chef Scott, got a humble pie recipe handy?

The left doesn't like KGO. The right despises it. They better wish that transmitter runs on batteries, because "going solar" hasn't helped. Revenues are so bad. Yeah, it's Summer. So what? If Cumulus thinks this will make the Fall any better, good luck.

Even the new $15,000 "Voltair" machine to hype PPM measurement can't help this trainwreck and Cumulus can't afford to by one. 342,100 cume persons -- exactly half the audience the station had (older demos and all) in 2011.

What a mess. Drex, I'd go on the air and apologize for this crap. Oh, and Mo' Langan, thanks for the mention of Karel's website and how "fabulous" he's doing mention Sunday. (He's not doing well at all.)

Don't bother changing the deck chairs around. Get new ones. What a pitiful mess.

Good going, Christine. You've been a not-so-big help. You, too, Pat Thurston, Chef Scott, Copie, Chip, Ronn, Jennifer, the whole pack of you union starved servants with you heads up youor collective asses..

  2. Donate the frequency, transmitter and antenna to PBS.

Donate the rest to Kars 4 Kids.

Leave San Francisco and never come back. Ever.

    1. Ya, I made the switch along time ago. Now I listen to K-101 as a replacement to talk radio. Sometimes KCBS for news & traffic.

The last time I quickly checked 810, Ronn was talking about a "Mercedes" he bought his wife as so "affordable". What a dummy. "affordable" LOL

Are those sweet- jack kgo food stamps still being honored ?

  3. Holy Christ, what a disaster...from the days of Jim Dunbar & Al Collins to the Oral Diahrrea from Christine Craft & Maureen Langan. As Leland Yee recently opined, "Me no guilty, Me Leland!!"

    1. Speaking of Matt Gonzalez, I like what Ronn Owens said about Matt years ago, how Gonzalez needs to be introduced to a bar of soap & some water. I saw Gonzalez on TV today, & he looks like dirt is his best friend...frickin' nasty ass.

    2. Uh,"matt", I started doing fill-in during the tenancy of Jim Dunbar. I'm a fill-in host. I"m not responsible for good ratings books or disappointing ones....ever.

  4. I don't always agree with Chip's points of view when it comes to politics but his show has really grown on me. I find myself tuning in just to see what his topic is the same way I would Ronn 5 to 10 years ago and Stern before he went to Sirius.

I am personally hoping that Ronn (until he retires in the near future), Chip, Pat, Finney and even Copie and Craft as fill-ins survive this mess.

    1. I agree with much of what you say except I am very mixed about Chip. He kind of annoys me in the way that radio guys from Los Angeles do. Too hyper and too many times he talks over callers when they don't agree. Still like Ronn.

  6. KGO is dead! The oldsters still tuning in also still have pagers strapped to there belts. I bet 3/4 of the listeners still get a newspaper thrown at their lawns at 3am:(

    1. Thank you for taking the time to post between taking selfies and leaving yelp reviews on the Starbucks or Chipotle you ate at an hour ago. I'm surprised you didn't misuse "your" for "you're", Oh wait....you did the other one. "There" where you should have used "their". Thank you for not disappointing. LOL. Dumbass.

    2. You're right about the audience that listens, but a client base could include:

      Directpage.com -- pagers
      Sansabelt -- men's apparel
SF Chron, Examiner -- pre-Morse code communication system

They're probably too lazy to sell it, though.

.9 vs 1.2 KGO and a whole lot of overhead.

  9. I'm stunned. I demand a recount. You want me to believe that Drex, Kim Komando, John Batchelor and infomercials aren't gaining any traction!? Unfortunately, I have a deep premonition that the moronic Chef Ryan Scott, similar to cockroaches will be the last one standing at KGO. Who in management is compromised that they keep this buffoon on air?

  10. Unfortunately, Cumulus has a slew of 400 and more stations heading the same way. They're bigger market stations are all a trainwreck. Their larger medium market stations from Reno and Fresno on down are now below the top five "buying line". Their over abundance of AM stations, including 50,000 watters that don't depend on "big signals" anymore are killing them, hence, the fact that AM is so irrelevant to them today.

So, what do you have? Stock worth, as of today, of $1.99 a share and with the NASDAQ dropping like a rock as Greece goes bankrupt, people aren't buying Cumulus stock. It is, at best, today, a "must sell" stock.

The egos such as those like Christine's also doesn't help. The audience isn't listening. A 1.2 rating proves it -- even in beauty contest numbers like that released today. Twist it anyway you want -- KGO still isn't making it. People who lost their talk station have now found the radio world in the Bay Area a far different place. No excuses, no black boxes, no "no-talents" can fix it. It's up to deep study, not reflecting on what was. Those days have left the pier. KKSF is in no better position for a lot of the same reasons. It's not just technical issues with a horrendous signal for them. The PPM is a far, far inperfect "act" -- but the old diariy methodology has flown away for its imerfections in large markets.

More syndication to feed slop that Cumulus has created please. Cumulus cannot afford the talent it once had and now that the older audience has bailed, it will be tough to get them back as loong as pantloads like Drex and Heather, Chef Scott and others exist.

  11. Hmmm, interesting.

Look at them corporate raiders hard at work stripping assets.

Oh look, up there!! Are those vulture capitalists circling high above in the clear blue sky?

I wonder what they’re looking for?

  12. I need to buy some voodoo dolls with the Dickey brothers' name on it. Days like today remind me of how much those two evil brothers damaged the bay area by destroying KGO radio. We would've been able to discuss the murder on Pier 14, the Greek Crisis and presidential politics. Sure, perhaps the dumb millennials would still continue to stare at their social media feeds but the rest of us would have continued to tune in and KGO would still be top 5.

  13. Looking at the ratings, I noticed KNBR is on top--Giants and Warriors? But why did 95.7 The Game go up from 1.5 to 1.7? It's not the A's. Any thoughts? More interest in the Warriors?

  14. This is no surprise and a long time coming. For many years, I would have my radios set on KGO. It was always on, so I knew I was connected to the world, should anything newsworthy happen. Started the day with Dunbar and Wygant, never paid much attention to Owens, but the rest of the day was enjoyable, particularly in the evenings.
    .
I had done this for years, but one day I discovered that certain personalities were so irritating that no radio was more enjoyable that listening to KGO. Eventually I moved the setting on my dial and listened to other stations which were less irritating, but still get my news fix. I realized with the exception of Gene Burns, there was nothing on KGO I really cared about and a lot I didn't miss.

  15. The 'Dickhead' Brothers are without a doubt among the worst owners of media outlets in the history of broadcasting. Thanks to deregulation, they were allowed to swoop in and buy these legacy stations around the country, and they have not only systematically ruined them for their audiences, but they have ruined a once respectable profession by hiring fakes, weasels, and part timers who are practically paid under the table.

You can get away with that for awhile in smaller and medium markets, (which is what they did in the 1990s), but when you get into the 'big leagues' of major market radio, it's going to come back to bite you in the ass.

Karma is a bitch and it is never sweeter than to see these hypocrites, assholes and blowhards get butt-F%$#@&ed by their own incompetence. Hopefully Cumullus will be circling the drain and taking with it all of the pathetic weasels who have been doing their bidding these last 15 or some odd years.

  16. KGO will survive, and you want to know why? There are tech companies in Silicon Valley that could buy KGO out of petty cash. Now I ask - would a Facebook, Cisco, Google ever dabble in radio that they could mold into an experiment? Things like charging for "Insider" (like Coast-to-Coast), streaming (Savage does well), or other novel approach to providing content nation- and world-wide? I'd think so!

A hi-tech company could buy KGO to use as a broadcasting laboratory in order to try and re-define, remold, remodel the [radio] medium. If they fail - what do they care about an $XXX.XX write-off? Chump change for them, or perhaps the opening of a whole new revenue stream, entertainment opportunity, news dissemination platform, advertising, tech educational content, financial news show, etc., etc. Why not?

... and tech companies have the money to hire extraordinary talent.

    1. Radio as we know it is of no interest to a high tech company. Hell, you can't even get cellphone companies to include a chip for FM broadcasts. In-car dashboards have limited streaming, outside of Pandoa, maybe I-heart Media, Apple, Sirius-XM. There would be no interest from high tech companies. The money is in in-car streaming video - not radio.

    1. Never. Copyright restrictions. The station(s) own the programs, not the talent.

    2. Yup. Not sure about NYSE, but NASDAQ will delist if your shares stay below $1 per share for 30-consecutive business days. Then it's off to the Pink Sheets. Then it's off to bankruptcy court (usually).

    3. Stock price update: Closed on NASDAQ today for $1.87.

  19. I remember hearing Savage when he just started on KGO - weekends from around 3 PM - 6 PM. I was immediately struck because he said the things I believed but no one dared talk about. Affirmative Action nonsense, being over-run by illegals, "red diaper doper babies", the over-the-top behavior of special interest groups in SF - the whole shebang.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE HE HAD THE GUTS TO SAY WHAT NO ONE ELSE WOULD TALK ABOUT.

I remember thinking; "If only people on the East coast and around the country could hear this guy"! I actually WISHED that people could hear him. He was saying everything I believed in. WOW! Seems my "wish" came true. He was an obvious talent unlike any other from Day 1. Now ...

KGO needs to return to news/talk, they need to find (pay) for two big-time personalities (9AM - 12 PM slot, 6PM - 10 PM slot - fill in the rest with 2nd tier), continue with the news and give some special interest programing on weekends (tech-talk, financial talk, God talk). The way it used to be with renewed invigoration.

Oh, and put out a search for new talent discoveries like Savage. Ask people to make up a tape (just have their friends ask questions and they respond as if they were on air) and trust me - the next "Michael Savage find" will pop-up from an area of diverse talent and keen intellect - The Bay Area. Listener-ship will follow.

  21. Wow, this is getting quite pathetic. I like Chip and Pat Thurston and that's about it. They need to something quick or it can get real ugly. They have this strong signal and their barely ahead of talk 910 which has a crap signal and even lousier shows, except for Alan Colmes.
