TV News loves a good parade--anything extra like super-duper crowd shots, spectacular scene-setters like a lake surrounded by blue skies in late June is even better.
Oakland scored a resounding 10 on the IT meter Friday afternoon as the Warriors celebrated their NBA Title deep in heart of Uptown and Lake Merritt with pomp an pageantry galore--the ultimate rally and parade on a picture-perfect day.
Moreover, all the festivities were captured live and done so with authority!, as ABC7's Larry Beil would describe --alongside fellow anchors, Dan Ashley and Ama Daetz. KGO's coverage was some of the very best on-scene reporting and the overhead chopper shots were just out of this world. In fact, KGO wasn't alone in the slam-dunk coverage; KTVU, KRON, and KPIX had reporters all over the place and provided an up, close and in-person account of the day's activities and they were riveting. Pure Chamber-of-Commerce heaven for The Town.
KPIX stood out as did KTVU. Fox2's Frank Somerville and Mark Ibanez, with genuine Bay Area roots to boot, gave vivid descriptions of the scene; Ibanez in particular was complimentary of the Town. "This is a great day for Oakland!", he said countless times and he was right. For a change the city and its centerpiece lake in the middle of Downtown couldn't have looked better.
Not everything was perfect --but the festivities viewed by anywhere from a half a million to over a million people(there were numerous estimates) were way too big to allow some nuisance to spoil the otherwise cool and extraordinary day. There were surprises galore; celebrity appearances; the speeches by the players were cool if some politicians couldn't resist yapping on and on even when some of the spectators began to groan.
Congrats Oakland, the Warriors--you did good today. And, get this, so did Bay Area TV.

Congratulations Bay Area Media on impeccable coverage on such a beautiful day!! For as Jim Bakker once said, "This shit will last 20 years!! Buy Now!!"
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't know better, from seeing the parade today, I'd say Oakland was a beautiful place! Great for the Warriors and their fans to have such a lovely day to celebrate!!!
ReplyDeleteParts of Oakland are beautiful, namely where this parade was.
DeleteIf I didn't know better I'd think you were intelligent...
1,000,000 people having a party and only 3 shot? Pretty good. Lyanne Melendez was groped on camera- I thought for sure one of those idiots was going to say F-her in the etc.,etc.
ReplyDeleteOther then that- Oakland fans proves again they are loyal. Its when the local teams move it hits them what a mistake they made.
Channel 7 had a "f her in the..." white guy that was quickly ignored by their anchor in one of his 23 shots with Mark from Yahoo in various areas along the route.
DeleteWhat part of her did they grope?
DeleteWarning: Stan sees TV women reporters being groped on camera all the time, especially when no one else does.
DeleteNot to shatter Stan's fantasies but better not to take his comments too seriously.
I thought Oakland was celebrating Torie Campbell's final day. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was for the Dubs!
ReplyDeleteTorie's going away party will be held in a phone booth
DeleteHas Erica Kato been hired by CBS radio? She was doing weather there this evening.
DeleteIs it over? Can we now send all the gentrifiers the F*UCK out? It is funny to see all these news types jump on the bandwagon when most of the time they portray The Town as something it is not. BTW, Dick, what is your prediction on the Andre Ward fight this evening at the coliseum? In between fights Sway interviewed Kaepernick and the whole arena erupted with booooos!
ReplyDelete7 got Ba-Ba Booey'd. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch I was in Tahoe. Pretty sick ESPN was only talking about LeBraun aka LeFraud after the game. His feud with his coach, you big baby.
ReplyDeleteHey Stan, did you screen capture Lefrauds Junk?
Oakland has some very nice neighborhoods. In fact probably about 60%-70% of Oakland is decent. A couple hoods are bad.
The rainbows from the city are buying up Oakland. You heard it here first.
Btw did anyone else think Clevelands coach looks a tad like Putin.
Nah,on LeBron.
ReplyDeleteThe SF (some) media LIES!..I heard them say the Oakland crowd was "Second to the Giants 2010 parade" BUT..I also heard a BART honcho tell KCBS "We don't know how many in total took BART because so many people clogged up the stations south of Oakland, BART managers were telling people they could just get on the trains with no ticket".
So,my eyes were right- the wave of basketball humanity was way more then 2010. My guess is by about a third.
Oh,yeah- How about your LeBron screen shot? Sounds like it came out fine. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteStan, media lies, Please tell us something we all don't already knew.
ReplyDeleteI thought you liked junk?
4 minutes between our posts. Fast service.
ReplyDeleteYou mean because I wrote that small white republican men are like another form of woman to Black men?
White men comment again. Always race with this clown.
DeleteRich posts his racist bullshit and blocks the racist replies. Funny how that works huh Rich?
Rich is smart enough to recognize Stan's insanity but posts Stan's stuff to elicit comments from others.
DeleteMean while Stan starts to think he's a member of the media because his comments show up on a popular blog.
4 minutes. I have no idea who could be playing with me...lol...
ReplyDeleteStan, you're just playing with yourself...
Delete1056. You took a topic about the parade and turned it into your off topic jealousy of me.
ReplyDeleteYou are ruining the high quality of this blog.
10:56 Always, Always!
ReplyDeleteI wish there had been more shots of locals participating in the parade along with so many great shots of the fans. People in the band and drill teams. But all in all pretty good coverage.
ReplyDelete"...you did good today. And, get this, so did Bay Area TV"
ReplyDeleteKTVU and KGO were exceptional; KRON was not, which was unfortunate as Darya and Mark were genuinely excited but their sports guy came across dour.
The parade and celebration..brought to you courtesy of Kyrie Irving's fractured foot and Kevin Love's separated shoulder.
ReplyDeleteWarriors win either way. Honestly the Warriors played their C+ game in the Finals and won in 6.
Delete@7:44
DeleteNeither of those injuries stopped the Cavs from sweeping Atlanta or beating the Bulls. And now those same injuries are suddenly a factor in the Finals loss to the Warriors? GTFOH.
I thought it was funny that you couldn't get Marshawn Lynch to shut up with Draymond Green's mom - this is the same guy who wouldn't do interviews before the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some of these grumpy football divas can learn something from the Warriors about being gracious.
