KTVU Mulls Possible Anchors For New 4 PM Newscast In The Summer

Pam Cook/KTVU
Pam Cook would make for a terrific choice to become the lead anchor for KTVU's new 4 PM Newscast coming this summer.

I've always liked Cook and thought she would be great for a more time-friendly spot than her current early-morning gig on KTVU's morning news.

Cook isn't the only current anchor under consideration; there's talk that KTVU/Fox2 might look for someone outside the market to become the air talent for the new show but I think that's doubtful.

KTVU has a number of in-house candidates that are more than adequate for the 4 PM newscast although adding certain names becomes problematic.

Heather Holmes is one of the station's big names and would certainly be effective at 4 but take her away from the weekend anchor desk and risk losing audience share?

Ken Wayne is a rising star and is comfortable on his weekend anchoring gig (with Holmes) but could become enlightened as a potential solo during the week. It's possible KTVU wouldn't necessarily go with multiple anchors at 4 but that's considered unlikely.

There's a lot to mull here.

  1. Allie Rasmus.
She filled in on the weekend and hits all the FOX buttons, young, beautiful, cheerful, and is worthy of the couch.
I'm not against older...but FOX is.

      You got that right.

    2. You're just against Caucasians

    3. Stan, maybe I haven't seen her enough, but Rasmus has never come across as cheerful. Actually, she's been almost the opposite. She has a serious quality to her presentation. I can't recall her smiling. And I've seen at the anchor desk and in the field reporting.

Now Heather Holmes is definitely the cheerful type. She actually resembles a cheerleader at times. There's nothing really wrong with that in general, but maybe it can be inappropriate at times.

    4. Whether or not Rasmus is "cheerful" (I've seen her smile a few times though), I'd prefer her to Holmes any day. From an aesthetic as well as a professional news presenter/journalism viewpoint.

  2. Does anyone see a chance of a KRONvict having an escape plan to land the anchor spot? I would think they would see the writing on the wall what with sharing space with KGO. Or maybe a KGOite? Who's a "name" in the market that has a contract up in the time frame?

  3. I would care except I will not be watching a 4pm newscast. So they could have Krusty The Clown for all I care! :-)

  4. I love Pam Cook. She's professional and smart but her small talk always comes across as natural and not fake or forced. She's been the morning finance person and perhaps expanding that role for the afternoon would be a god fit. More focus on local govt finance would be welcomed.

  5. Pam would rock, but knowing Fox they're going to be afraid of anyone over 30. Heather has the best shot, I think, unless they bring in an outsider.

I'm just waiting for when they move the cameras so that they're at crotch level, and they tell the female anchors to sit at a coffee table and cross and uncross their legs a lot.

    1. Got a feeling it may be the worst TV reporter the Bay Area has ever seen namely, Brian Flores. This guy is either well connected or is in possession of some of the most incredibly offensive photos involving broadcast professionals and their "hobbies"

    2. Agree with you, johnny. Flores is absolutely terrible. Phony. I thought for awhile FOX was grooming him for Dave Clark's position. Nothing materialized. He was worse than Dave!

    3. As for the current women who serve as reporter/anchor for KTVU, I think it a solid group from which to choose.

If, however, Fox is going for the "foxy" look, Holmes - good at what she does - ought to lose the animal print clothing, and chop the waist length hair. The overall effect is "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle."

    4. Brian Flores is a good reporter and excellent fill-in for Sal. He must have beat you out of the job.

    5. Can you imagine the smell if KRON did that with their morning diva?

      Scent-o-vision.

    6. @ 2:09 PM
The entire point of a 4PM newscast is to go up against channel 7 for a share of the dollars. Therefore; if foxy is a concern Claudine Wong gets the job.

    7. As with Rasmus, Wong is a better selection than Holmes, on all fronts.

Frankly, I don't get the fascination with/appreciation for Heather Holmes. She isn't attractive (nothing against blondes, I think Julie Haener is Fine), nor is she a good news presenter.

  6. Heather Holmes beats the snot out of Pam Cook in my opinion.

  7. Getting passed over for the 4 and the 5/7 would be a big deal for Holmes. Keeping her on the weekend in order to keep ratings high is too myopic a decision for FOX. KTVU must move her up to five days a week either on the 4 or the 5/7 or it seriously risks losing her entirely when her contract is up.

  8. Remove Dave Clark from Mornings On 2, and let him do the 4:00 pm News! Then I will be able to watch MO2 once again...

  9. Rich,

I hate to be off topic but where the heck is Ed Baxter? This guy Spencer Hughes is the worst! Why would they put a guy on the radio who is completely anathema to Baxter unless they plan on firing him? It's just awful. Every time I hear this guy he's defending why he's a conservative or a racist or homophobic. It's just terrible! It's not interesting at all!

  10. About a week ago Cook did a story on the closing of the Marin County history museum in San Rafael. It's closing because of a lack of funds. The story had a melancholy and yearning tone. At the end of the segment Dave Clark commented enthusiastically, with a big smile on his face, that it was a nice story. This guy seems pretty clueless. I'm a resident of Marin and felt pretty annoyed by this.

    1. That's Clark's only vocal programming, enthusiastic and loud. He needs to be replaced, ASAP.

  11. As far as Allie Rasmus, she filled in two weekends ago..and she was all smiles. I think Mibach was more lively himself around her.
I came up with her since Rich said KTVU wouldn't use Heather Holmes. Heather is fine with me. I try not to think what she would think of my teeth, education, and income,wink,wink...
As far as I know Allie and Heather are Caucasian. Right?

  12. Heather Holmes has them crazed eyes in that photo above.

    My Favorite is Christa Rendon.

  13. Yawn, since I stopped watching any news on the "Happy Talk" station, KTVU, I've found the CBS Morning Show during the week much more informative and interesting.
