  1. Am I supposed to be envious of their high salaries, seeing their success as something taken away from me? Well, no I don't. Like Donna Summer sang "They work hard for their money, so you better treat them right." When you're in Broadcasting News at this level and in a state like California, you are in essence a Performance Artist. Let's be real, this is 25% Walter Cronkite and 75% Show Business. Nice work if you can get it.

    1. Damn straight but not just here. Cleveland is the same way if not worse. Local television personalities there have been borderline movie stars for many years. In that market, they tend not to jump around as much. If they love ya, they LOVE ya and you'll be around forever. Don Webster hasn't worked in the biz for at least two decades but every year he returns to Cleveland and is always treated like royalty. One of the reasons he and his wife left Ohio for South Carolina is so he **wouldn't** have to deal with that on a daily basis for the rest of his life.

  2. That's a curiously specific number for Larry Beil.

  3. Two Immediate Observations: With his Brand New Raise to 360,000, Sportscaster Mark Ibanez for 5 minutes of KTVU's 10:00 pm News & 2 minutes on their 6pm Newscast now makes more than Julie Haener who co-hosts the 6pm & 10pm KTVU News with Frank--Julie definitely needs to Renegotiate her current Salary. Paul Deanno, who is the Bay Area's Best Weather Guy is paid Substantially lower than Spencer Christian, Bill Martin, Jeff Ranieri & even less than Radnich's Buffonish Clone Vern Glenn who only works 2 Nights a Week! Jeff definitely needs to Renegotiate his current Salary too. Keep up the Great work Rich!

    1. Ibanez also does field reports, and hosts other sports programming for the station. It is nice to see someone with significant tenure being compensated accordingly, which has not always been the case in this market. According to my source, Julie was 12 when Mark started at KTVU. If/When Haener is at the station 36 years, I hope that accomplishment is recognized in the form of a raise and additional job security. BTW, Haener's $350,000 IS pretty fair.

    2. I don't think we'll be seeing Ms. Haener when she hits 35 years in the biz.

  4. Cue those who know nothing about television news and who make low wages begin to carp in 3-2-1...

  5. That's all Darya is getting?
How much does Laura Garcia-Cannon make?

    1. Hasn't there been something on this site about Darya shacking up with some dude from KRON? If she's shacking up she doesn't need as much as if she was on her own. Maybe the guy gets paid more and it all works out in the end.

  6. Gasia Mikaelian makes less than Janelle Wang and Wang anchors 1/3 of the amount of time Gasia does. I always thought Wang was overrated. Now I see she's overpaid too...

    1. Wang is overrated, and not a Journalism Reporter. More like fluff pieces.

  8. I would be more curious on what the sports people make, from Comcast Sports Bay Area, to sports writer's and columnists' of the Merc, Chron, and other papers.

    1. I've heard that CSNBA's compensation for Ratto is 350,000 donuts per year.

      Delete
    2. lol Ratto only getting 350,000 donuts a year, the man is truly underpaid and underfed.

    3. Inflation adjusted that's slightly more than Wayne Shannon.

  9. Rich, your salary was absent!! Why?

  10. My oh my! There are some people (Radnich especially) who are way overpaid here. I wish I could dial it in daily like that so called No. 1 sportscaster. No. 1 slacker is more like it. I'm sure he'll decry any negative comments here, but he's reading them or someone's telling him. Face it bud, you're time is up.

  11. Cheryl Jennings makes 400k? You'd never know it from her down market.wadrobe...

    1. That is unnecessary and rude. There is nothing wrong with Cheryl's clothes.

    2. She's been at KGO longer then Dashely and makes less money. And Kristen Sze is way over paid

  12. Are these numbers strait performance contracts? By that I mean is that their entire compensation package (other than X number of negotiated days off, holidays, etc.) and they get at 1099 at the end of the year or are these salaries where the stations have to pay workers comp, unemployment, Social Security matching, etc.? I assume they all get (buy?) health insurance from the union (are they all unionized?)?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm not surprised about what the top one third make at each station, but I am about the bottom two thirds. They are making a whole lot more.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow...Janelle Wang makes more than Ama Daetz? Somewhere Carolyn Johnson is chuckling.

Is that Jessica Aguirre's new contract or the old one that's supposedly expiring?

I don't believe the Cheryl Jennings number. Despite her seniority it seems high given her shifts. But it would explain why someone was telling Rich that ABC was looking to cut that salary down...even if the report turned out to be bogus.

  15. These people deserve every dime… they have that same special talent that permeates Hollywood and runs so thick in the Kennedy line… that ability to be opposed to fat cat Republicans, fiercely committed to social justice, and at one with the poor, all the while engorging themselves at the capitalist trough.

    Venceremos, venceremos,
A thousand chains we'll have to break,
    venceremos, venceremos,
    But first my Kobe steak

  16. If I had been born telegenic and could read a teleprompter, what dough I would be raking in . . .

  17. Bill Martin at KTVU is grossly overpaid. He has the worst work ethic of anyone on TV and doesn't do his own forecasts. He is boring and dose a lousy job if and when he tries to talk about the "why" of the weather.

  18. Ann Notarangelo, Juliette Goodrich, Michelle Griego and Roberta Gonzales must be furious to see what Ms. Schertz is getting for failing. Can't be a happy hen house at the Tiffany Network.

If KPIX was serious about getting the yutes to watch then they should have given he 10 PM slot to Brian Hackney. Yeah, I know he's old...but the guy has an interesting perspective that zags where most of the target demo does. Instead of pandering with no tie trending BS Hackney comes across as the VC who will admit that his first million dollar idea came to him at the Laserium after three hits of window pane. You can't be who they are now you have to have been who they were.

    1. You should've also mentioned Lawrence Karnow, oh wait, they fired him for actually doing his job that he was actually good at.

    2. Hackney was in the Viet Cong? And I thought it was Orange Sunshine (which also helped him get the idea to become a weather forecaster)?!

      Delete
    3. Who the hell is Ms. Schertz?

  19. As these things go, it's hard to believe that Heenan and Liviakis, who have been around as long as most anyone here (over a quarter-century for the former), make so little comparatively. But then KRON I guess is hardly fat with cash to throw around.

  20. does anybody else think Wang is pretty?

    1. Pretty, yes. But, not much of a journalist. Vicky Nguyen is a better journalist compared to Wang.

  24. why is it dave makes so little money and he's the anchor have you read he's bio market's he's worked in and anchored seems a bit odd?

  25. Glad to see that Dave Clark is paid less. He is the worst personality on tv.
