It was weird; weird as in good. Genuine. No pretenses. No special effects just a guy in a chair and some scary movies.
KTVU. Night time.
Simplicity at its best. No gimmicks. No need for artificial entertainment. Just up front and 70's local TV nostalgia ...from "ONE, JACK LONDON SQUARE!--Creature Features and your host, Bob Wilkins."

The best. Who needed 500 channels when you had Creature Features?
ReplyDeleteI saw a documentary on Bob Wilkins and Creature Features the other week on a " rabbit ears" Santa Rosa station called NBTV week or so ago. Loved it ! steve
ReplyDeleteI still remember the original theme song, "Gotham City Municipal Swing Band," by Neal Hefti & his Orchestra and Chorus.

we want reruns
ReplyDeleteEvery Saturday night I would love to watch Bob and his movies. I was just a kid. That was, until the werewolf came running around the corner in my dream and chased us away. After that night, dad said no more Creature Features. Good times.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories, always a double feature. I remember watching CH2 news and telling my Dad that the weather man looks a lot like the Creature Features guy....
ReplyDeleteI saw the very first "Creature Features" - The movie that night was: "The Horror of Party Beach". A real crummy B-movie. Perfect way to set the tone for the show.
ReplyDeleteCompeting for the Saturday night horror audience was KEMO-TV's Shock Theatre, hosted by Asmodeus (Frank Sheridan). This promo is introduced by Hal Peterson, staff announcer and news anchor. Also a credible sports play-by-play announcer, Hal called KEMO-TV's coverage of the Oakland Oaks ABA basketball home games.

What made the show was Bob Wilkins. His dry humor was very funny.
