  1. Bye Angie. They don't care. Randall bloomquist was having private closed door meetings with sales staff telling them to sell the weekends. It's no different from when Thurston had to interview a health care professional who paid to be on the air am hour. When your company is sinking all that matters is the money in the door. They don't care about kgo or any station.

    1. When we had a company meeting to introduce Kevin Metheny one of the new sales people who I have never seen again asked Randall about selling weekends. He shut her down on the spot and told her we can talk about that later. Then another female sales person who I have never seen made a follow up point and Randall then told her they could talk about it afterward. I remember thinking to myself how strange it is that we all work here but no one on the sales staff has ever come over to the news/talent side and every had a conversation about anything. These people come and go. They have no concern for the station or the hosts or anything on the programming side. They are all there to make a quick buck and usually it's these people who are like the lowest level sales people you will ever meet. They will sell anything on the air and they don't care what it sounds like. Neither do the people telling them to sell. There is absolutely NO CONCERN for what is being aired on the sales side and they dictate what gets broadcast.

About a year ago they brought in these new guys from Clear Channel and they came in some kind of package deal. People were making some big deal about it like they were special. I don't think any of them still work at Cumulus.

There is no continuity in that building and it's only getting worse.

  2. "SCREW YOU, SF--WE'LL TAKE THE MONEY!"

That's really what it's all about now. Before it was just "we'll take the money", but that's when radio people were running things and who knew how to entertain an audience. Now it's bean counters who don't care about the art side of the business.

    1. A good manager knows how to invest $X in product in order to achieve an overall return greater than $X. The investment is in content. This almost certainly has obvious listener appeal and increases revenue that way. The current management of KGO seem to be quick-buck artists. They see the money coming in right away from an infomercial but can’t comprehend the long-term deterioration of the audience who are not compelled to listen to these shows and are often repulsed by them. The effect is a net negative return, long term.

Attention KGO management: The comments reflected here are shared in general by the average person in the market. Do you see what is happening to this station? Does that bode well for the long-term health of the operation?

  3. Worse yet, this financial adviser opened his show by saying that when the stock market opened down in the past, it ended up at the end of the year so we should all be happy the stock market opened down this year. We are officially in the Orwellian 1984 world - doublespeak where up is down, down is up, and you will be assimilated.

  4. Another bad, but not unusual week, for KGOne. More bad news ... Karel files for bankruptcy according to his "woe is me" website. Had to ask friends to pay the bankruptcy attorney, in fact. Of course, the way he put it, it was "not" his fault, it was the way an "underhanded creditor" went about it to force him into "BK". Also trying for six years to clear up three other creditors. Thinks maybe selling all, packing up the rest and going to Texas. Doubtful. Appraiser out to his "Park Howard" house to find worth in his Long Beach house yesterday. Bring hankies to the show tonight where he still feels he's the best on KGO.

As I was rightfully told yesterday, "He's sick. Just sick." He may not deserve any credibility but another slice of life of how Cumulus has kept this doofus waaay more than he should be on radio anywhere. Couldn't happen to a creepier guy. Details on his website. I have no sympathy as he is bumming $100,000 from people to finance his TV show now.

    1. Well of course it's not Karel's fault...ever! Remember, he's an entertainer!

    2. Anyone know what the status of the red carpet will be in the bk proceedings? But seriously. I tuned to Angie's show and it was excellent. Too bad such f-ING a-holes are running KGO. Last Wednesday Tom Leykis was just brutally laying into the idiots who run the radio biz. It is interesting inside baseball. It is maddening. They wreck the product yet expect to make money putting up shitty shows? I tuned to the Chef's show and the guy is just plugging a friend's sausalito eatery while drinking margaritas. Genius! . Ryan Scott thinks that his enthusiasm can overcome the crap he puts on air. It can't.

  5. This is so stupid. She is the best host they have and yet they have to fuck her around. When she came on today she said her Sunday show tomorrow has been cut to 2 hours,

It's amazing a station can be so poorly managed.

  6. I only listen to Copeland. When he subs for Ronnnn or his own show. I don't even listen to the news on KGO anymore. When he goes, I'm done.

  7. Well if nothing else they could bring in John Hamilton for 8 hours each day, Saturday and Sunday, interviewing hotel sales people about their menu specials.

    2. That's a low blow! You're forgetting all the local tourism agencies, airlines and tour companies he talks to! Plus there's that riveting segment (I assume he still does it on the one hour show) where people who aren't bright enough to book their own travel online call in to get airfare quotes!

  8. It's so sad what Cumulus has done to KGO, slowly strangling the life out of it. Pure, sick venality, which is the Dickhead Bros stock and trade, and previous posters are correct, they don't care about the people who work there, and they certainly don't care about the piss-poor quality they are now offering bay area listeners. I feel badly for the folks who work there, and now I'm told that the negotiations between Cumulus and the AFTRA Union folks are not going well...(is that a surprise?) Meanwhile KNBR has voted to join the Union but do you think Lou Dickey will ever permit that to become a reality? Not a chance.

    1. Cumulus has no choice but to recognize the union. Agreeing to the unions terms, they don't have to.

  10. Kgo continue to annoy the hell out of me, they fire my favorite hosts. Brings in second rate ones, like Tim Montemayor, then they have the sense to get rid of that nobody, then they bring Matt Ray, whom I never disliked as a person, unlike Montemayor, but he was a bit weak as a talk show host, didn't know how to challenge the callers, then they bring in Angie Corio, and she is excellent, can challenge the callers, explain the subject, and is knowledgeable, and now they cut her hours after just a show time, what idiots. I have nothing against Ric Edelman, and I do believe he is doing an actually show, and that it is not paid programming, but he is on KSFO, the same time as he is now on KGO. Talking about KSFO Ethan Bearman is a total bore, just can't help talkting down to audience, can't stand his format, also someone filled in for him for a few weeks, name I think was Austin Hill, he was as bad, if not worse, than Ethan Bearman, if possible talked like he thought all of his listeners was just uninformed idiot, both of them seem to be intellectual lightweights, just too sarcastic and simple, calls Obama "the great one" stupid phrases like that. What is next? I have no illusions about decent programming from either station, and lets throw 910 in the mix while we are talking about bad programming.

  11. KGO is playing a rerun of Karel. One that is basically of his "tv show" so it is really a rerun of a rerun.

  12. I give up! Except for the rare exceptions, terrestrial radio has been ruined in the Bay Area. Most of what remains now are Infomation Shows. I've decided to shop for a Satelite radio for home use. I don't guess they make any Satelite radios that also play CD's do they? I see ads from Best Buy starting at about $100. Maybe then, I can re-hook up with Dr. Laura and Rabbi Lapin.

  13. I wrote the blog at 10:02 last night, this morning it is even worse. I turned to KGO and KSFO several times around 9 a.m. One of the stations had sponsored health programming (as in vitamins informercials), I think it was KSFO, but they also had the garden show on, and John Hamilton was on KGO to 10 a.m. and then they went to sponsored health information. This is infuriating, these show are boring, and they are on almost every station on the week end, 910, 650 and now on KGO and KSFO, this is more than infuriating, public airway be damned, this is corporation airways, the listeners can go to hell. However, what do they accomplish? They keep loosing listeners, and then they put on more bad shows that no one wants to listen to, and then they loose more listeners. What idiots. I heard Karel's show not only was it a rerun, it was from New Years Eve or the day before, so it was a rerun 3 weeks old. Gene Burns must be spinning in his grave, he was always so proud of being on one of the best stations in the country.

  14. OMG! They took Angie Coiro off so that they could hawk snake oil!

The "host" actually said "...if you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL!" At least, he's original.

This is unbelievable - even for Cumulus.

  15. Sunday 1/25, 10:05 AM to 10:35 AM, 100% commercials being broadcast (at least via internet). KGO website calls it "Specialty Programming". Have they lost their minds?

  16. YES. Beginnig to think they never had one.

  17. Angie Corio is one of the most left-wing hosts I have ever heard on KGO, and that's saying a lot. She's even to the left of the former host Ray Taliaferro. It's as though Elizabeth Warren converted totally to communism and then became a talk show host. She is angry, means-spirited and engages in ad hominem attacks both on individuals and the Republican Party.

Today on her show she exalted an exceptionally slanted left-wing article on Esquire.com, laying into Rep. Rod Blum's oft-quoted (but apparently erroneous) quote by Thomas Jefferson, even though he said he was paraphrasing. Here's the erroneous quote: "The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first."

Now, here's Jefferson's actual quote, found in the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798:"...in questions of power then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the constitution..."

Now, do you see a whole lot of substantive difference between those two quotes, particluarly since Rep. Blum said he was paraphrasing? Nope. Neither do I. And then Ms. Corio goes on to mispronounce Ayn Rand's first name. Should we focus in on that and discount anything else she says because of that mistake? That's what she would do.

If Ms. Corio chooses to leave KGO, I say, 'good riddance.' I don't think there's another talk host anywhere who can match her left-wing ideology.

    1. @12:59, "Angie Corio is one of the most left-wing hosts I have ever heard on KGO, and that's saying a lot" That's why many of us love her. Don't you get it? I wish there we more hosts like her on the air. The radio dial is full of right wing fucktards for you and your teabagger buddies to listen to.

    2. I agree with you that that the radio dial is full of right wing hosts, and like you I wish there were more liberal, left wing host to listen to. However, left or right wing is not the point, the point is a good host that will keep your interest, inform and entertain you, and challenge the callers. They are getting they are almost an endangered species these days. Perhaps some of that is the listeners own fault, many just want a host who mirrors their own belief system, they don't like to challenged, or listen to the other side. I don't mind listening to the other side as long as that side is reasonable, honest and entertaining. Lots of conservatives listen to Alan Colmes, as a liberal I can listen to Tom Sullivan, but not Rush or Hannity. I can listen to John Batchelor, in fact both of those hosts are excellent especially when they talk about other subject than politics, although Bactchelor can be good on that too, when he is not in an "Obama bashing mode".Tom Sullivan had did a very good and common sense hour on Friday on people who refuses to vaccinate their children against the measles, that is not a left or right issue. I loved to listen to Gene Burns I didn't always agree with him, but he could make almost any subject interesting and a provocative. Left or right did not enter into the picture.

As for the recent programming on KGO and KSFO it seems like their is a lot of overlapping, Edelman is not on both stations, so is John Batchelor, and it seems like the infomercials they just started are pretty much duplicates, perhaps they should just merge the stations, and then try to give us some live and mostly local hosts, even if some would be right wing, as long as it is balanced I could put up with it.

  18. I had KGO on the computer and I was curious as to what they were going to do instead of Angie's show. Like 10:38 said they started playing commercials that went on and on. I had work to do online so I just turned the sound down to background noise. When I finished my work online at about 10:30 I went into a room with a radio. Over the air they had a couple of scammers selling their over priced worthless crap.

I just am in shock that the powers to be at KGO can be so incredibly fucking stupid. They are preempting one of the best hosts in the whole Bay Area for shit programming. What morons!!!

When Angie signed off she said something like she hoped she would be back next weekend.

  20. Just so you know, when KGO or KSFO plays those paid programs, they play as commercials. The system that plays commercials has a sub-system that triggers "different commercials" (filler) for play on the Internet. That system works tolerably well in normal programming. When the "commercial" is 55 minutes long, you get... 55 minutes of repetitive spots and PSA's on the Internet. This came from the Unions threatening to extract value for the Internet broadcast of the voices on the ads. Sorry.
