Yeah, So What, Radio IS Dead, That Means I Don't Have An Opinion? Hardly

JUST BECAUSE BAY AREA RADIO IS DEAD DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T COMMENT ON IT...BECAUSE...

*Somehow, against all odds, Mr. Softie, Ronn Owens, master of the 45 year-old housewife in Pleasanton; king of all gadgets and mattresses; the mother of all simpletons; is still on the air--it's KGO--, sloppy seconds, but he keeps going. Proving one thing: have body, will speak.

*The beige wallpaper station, "Newstalk 910" and its IHeart/Fart-whatever it's called, is to traction and buzz is what CSPAN is to BET.

*Brian Sussman, part of the Cumulus radio gestapo, has so much besmirched the new KSFO, it's even worse than the old, newer KSFO which left the planet in 1980. More train noise, Brian, more fart noise too and some cows mooing...thanks Brian. What would you do without the Drudge Report?

*You yentas in the KGO Radio newsroom --free piece of advice: Bloomquist and Bakos: watch your back. And when you take a break in the lunch room, keep in mind they can hear you and see you--I have no proof but the green spiders swear to me all the way from Atlanta. Don't make a mess too otherwise they'll sweetjack you until death.

*KCBS: Just when I thought you couldn't do any more repeats. Hell, I know about TSL and PPM, but damn, for god's sake, can you just keep to four repeats every couple of hours as opposed to the eight-nine --and I'm not even counting weekends.

*Chip Franklin: Thanks for reaching out...It's good business and PR...just keep Bakos off your ass and do YOUR show. You sound OK but the topics? Not so good. Be yourself, Chip.

*Michael Savage: Your ratings are really beginning to tank. You asked for my advice: I told you to stay the hell away from Obama--people hate politics, both sides of the aisle. Instead, you retreated to the Groundhog Day card--you should have stuck to meatball recipes, Teddy, and Indian food buffets.

*Randall Bloomquist: Look, dickhead--you're a Cumulus bean counter. Quit handing out crappy cigars, get your ass kissed by Ronnnnnnnnn, and feel fortunate that the only thing you got going is you look sort of like Jonah Hill. Now go take a long walk on a short pier.

*Renee Bakos: They're on to you. They think your handbooks are the shits too. Pretty soon, you'll be in Toledo asking some pimply board op in his 30's for a date to Arby's.

*John Lobertini: Yeah, you're a genius --that southern NY accent is about as genuine as a Utah hooker.

*The Dickeys: You keep cashing those bonuses and laughing at all the little people --especially 55 Hawthorne. If they only knew the whole story.

*KNBR: Your interns still reading updates. The janitors still busy? I thought so. Maybe it's time you became real innovative: do a promo of Larry Baer taking a #2 flushed with "Go Giants!"

*Sarah and Vinnie: Stealing money is better than hosting morning radio shows. Wait a minute!

*Brian Copeland: "You know what?!!--Byron Allen never hosted a radio show!"

*Chef Ryan Scott: your gouda cheese on the weekend is about to turn blue, sorry, dude.

  1. Wow. You're locked and loaded today. Chip on 810 is good, but would be better if they allowed more calls. Or have him interview a few people. Not somebody from the Water Regulation Board. Something a little more nifty. It's getting more difficult for me to post my comments these days. That code I enter to say I'm not a machine is all but indecipherable. I really wish you could simplify it. Yesterday I gave up trying to post after going through eight (8!) different displays, each as unreadable as the ones before.

  2. If it's really dead and buried, why do you continue to pay so much attention?
So now you're trying to take it back, Radio IS NOT DEAD?
    Rich, make up your mind!

  3. D. Bruce a minute or two ago: If you want to listen to a sports host who has no passion for sports, who's disinterested, tune to 680 and listen to a guy named Gary".
    Merry Christmas D.Bruce!

  4. Chip Franklin - "at the heart of it" and "at the end of the day" is about as entertaining as a drying machine. And he seems to have an obsession with strippers, while claiming he is really against the club owners and guys that ogle them. Protests too much

  5. Is the 45 year old housewife in Pleasanton any different than the 45-50 year old housewife in Marin that hosts on KGO?

    1. You really have a problem with house wives don't you? What's up with that. I listen to Ronn on a regular basis, since I have a long commute and often late morning, I can't stand Rush, and Ed Baxter, whom I like and use to listen to KGO, but not so much on 910, because he follows the stations, boring format of jumping from topic to topic, talking to one or two experts, and don't take calls, I listen to Ronn, because he is for the most part the best host in the a..m. Rich don't like him, but compared to what else is on he is not that bad. He has often good topics, does take calls, and can engage the caller, something that is lacking very much in today's radio.

    2. @10:54 I agree with you about both hosts. Ed Baxter's show sucks. All he does is read the stuff in the news. I start reading the news at 6:00 AM every morning and don't want to hear him repeat it at 10:00. Sometimes his news is a week old anyway. For his show to ever be interesting he MUST take calls. Gil Gross needs to take calls also.

I listen to Ronn. He is on right now. Not the best host on radio, but not too bad. Like you said what else is on in the morning worth listening to?

    3. 10:54 it's probably not all housewives just certain ones that expostulate their liberal bias across the airwaves here locally. Just my opinion.

    4. And was Melanie Morgan or Barbara Simpson host (and housewives) who expostulated their conservative views on the airwaves locally? And what about Katie Green, no she not a housewife she is a collage student, but certainly she is biased. Talk show hosts are not suppose to be journalist, they are suppose to have an opinion. being it liberal or conservative. I'm liberal, not ultra liberal, for the most part fairly middle of the road, but I use to listen to both Melanie and Barbara, not that agreed, and there were many times I wanted jump in and voice my opinion, but both woman were intelligent, I didn't always have to agree with them to listen, but they certainly in no uncertain terms had their conservative bias. I expect that from a conservative host, and don't have a problem with it. It is not necessary for me to always agree with the host to find them interesting and listenable. It is nice to have a balance of liberal, conservative and middle of the road hosts to choose from. However, it seems many conservatives just want an echo machine, how boring.

  6. As much as D. Bruce drives me up the wall thinking his own farts don't smell, at least the guy is creative, passionate and interesting. While you have to give Radnich his due for being a true 'soldier' and showing up and performing every day he has to work, he's gotten tired, worn out and trite. It's good he's paired with Larry, because you can tell that Krueger at least is interested in sports and does his homework.

Gary has been mailing it in for years. Yeah, I know that the guy is an entertainer, but the act has been stale for a long time. I guess it's hard to reinvent yourself at a later stage in your career, but he needs to do something to make the show a little more interesting.

He can get by showing up five minutes beforehand and pulling if off, but that's because the general population of the bay area are not nearly as hardcore into sports, as folks in NYC, Pittsburgh, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, or a number of other places. There are just too many other things to do in these parts.

So Gary is quite fortunate in that regard. He gets the 'casual fan' and even brings in the non-sports fan from time to time. It's all about numbers and I guess the guy still delivers in that department, but doesn't make him any more palatable to the hardcore sports fan; the core audience of KNBR.

    1. Gary use to have other options to be entertaining, but they took Bruno away from him - and he had to tolerate the weekly gambler at 10am...

    2. Seattle? They may follow the Seahawks now, but U of W was their pro team for a long time. Attendance for the Mariners isn't very high and attendance for their hoops team was so low, they moved to Oklahoma City. That would be like the Raiders moving to San Antonio - an area a quarter the size.

  7. KRON is off the air- again- on Dish. Or,is it also for others? The last few days KRON has had problems with "echoes" A one second repeat..and some pixel breakups.
Moving technical problems or just "my provider?"

    2. I tried watching last nights broadcast and there were skips. Pam would start a sentence about something and then instantly she'd be talking about something else. Skips all over.

  8. Spot on regarding the savage nation. Why did he turn into another right wing gas bag reading from the republican talking points? He made fun of guys who talked right vs left politics like the wall banger or the leprechaun yet he's now one of them. He might as well work at ksco with those hacks. Time for savage to retire. He had a good run. After the cuba news broke I thought I'd check him out. What he said was so idiotic and laughable that I won't even repeat it.

    1. I'm a recent fan however I tire quickly of the short tempered outbursts towards his board ops and others running his show. Sounds so disrespectful over the air. Not to mention when he tries to come across as hip. You're the same age as my mother...drop it.

  9. I'm sure it got him fired but I enjoyed when david weintrub referred to them as Ronald Blowens and Michael Ratings Salvage. I said he'd get fired for it and he did but at least he had the guts to do it even if you didn't like him rich.

  10. Rich,

You have radio opinions but why is it that you feel the need to delve into people's personal lives? How is that important when discussing radio? Who are you to pry in that way?

  11. I found out recently that Renee Bakos is at KGO 810 in a management position? Are you kidding me? I worked around her in Dallas, now I have relocated here to San Fran to work in a different entertainment medium. From what I know, she was fired as a part time producer at KGO. Then pretended to be a "consultant" after she was let go, ends up somehow landing a job at WBAP in Dallas, where she is hired as a producer. Then the station gets Mike Huckabee and she becomes the producer for that show, rumor was she bonked the then PD to get it. All the while she still has no idea what she was doing, just ask anyone who worked with her there. Now she is hired at KGO? I know from being in the business that KGO has gone down hill, but this woman is a complete buffoon who barely knows how to turn on a radio, let alone run a radio station in any capacity. I know first hand that she cannot be trusted, is as dumb as they come and has never gotten along with anyone she worked with. Good work Cumulus!

  12. I can't stand Savage and haven't listened to him for years, but hasn't he always talked politics?

  13. He used to mix it up more. He'd throw "red meat" for the partisan FOX viewers and then he'd talk about other stuff. Now all he does is promote and read from his book and bash Obama nonstop. Snooze-fest!!!
