Outsourced KGO Radio Anchor Said The Giants Got Beat By The 'Arizona' Cardinals; (Audio)

JUST when you thought things couldn't get any worser, or perhaps more apt, unintentionally funnier, let us all go to KGO Radio's Theatre of the Absurd early Monday.

During the comical "news" segment, anchor Dei-dra Miles, gave sports scores.

First, she says, "...the "Arizona" Cardinals beat the SF Giants, 5-4, (Audio: @ 4: 55).

Then she announced the "Oakland Raiders lost to the Chargers, 28-31" --gotta love tennis backward scores.

Of course De-da-Ra Miles is an outsourced voice broadcasting from Dallas and is not really "in the KGO news center", that's the kind of shit you get when you put out this garbage.

Making matters even more ridiculous, the whole charade was re-broadcast again and on KSFO too, just another lovely night on the Cumulus meter.

  1. I've seen and heard local news and sports anchors make the same type of mistake. It's not a big deal.

  2. Rich, I don't think anyone cares anymore. The Dickey brothers don't and it's their sandbox so that's the end of it.

We see it in the systems world. No one wants to pay for quality. No one has the money. We've been here before, in the late seventies. I swear, it feels like 1978 all over again...and that's really bad. It took another recession (short but deep, 1980-1983) to get a handle on the money supply and set us up for all the growth that followed during the eighties and nineties. Maybe it won't affect us much in California because we're so diversified. We'll see.

    1. ROOTVG has returned! Somebody sound the Rams Horn. I think you've been out for a while. At least I didn't see any of your posts for a few weeks. I though maybe you committed some Faux Pas, or crime against Liberalism and was then briskly escorted to the digital doors. Maybe you were just busy.

  3. Radnich wants you to know that the"Giants are still tied 1-1 coming home"..positive in defeat. But when the Giants win? He says he's not ready to say they are a good team. And in fact today called the Cardinals "The better team in the series". To go along with his whole season long "The Dodgers are the better team" "The Giants just don't have the talent"
So if he says yes,he might mean no.Maybe.
I love to hear con artists speak.

    1. KGO will not be making major changes during this, the 4th quarter of the year which is the same time of the quarterly rating period now on -- the biggest period of news talk stations in the year. (Spring ratings are big for music stations, particularly.)

When the ads for the holidays drop after Christmas, the inventory is less going into the New Year. That's the next time to make wholesale changes after the last quarter has been accounted for. The first quarter of the year, especially if there is no football playoffs, is the worst of the year for ad revenue.

    2. The "quarterly rating period" is obsolete. The new method is monthly audience measurements using the PPM (Portable People Meter), which is an electronic device users carry around, and the station they're exposed to transmits an encoded signal that the PPM picks up and stores. Each day's data is uploaded nightly to the PPM computers.

The diary is still only used in smaller markets.

  4. I can't believe no one has mentioned KGO's new plan! Come on RICH WHERE ARE YOUR SOURCES on RANDALL'S BIG PLAN?!?! I think they have a name for it too and it's called the "BLAME KEVIN METHENY PLAN WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK." I know you say a lot of bad things about Kevin but he was not a bad person at all. I don't appreciate that the company's new plan seems to be whatever Kevin was doing before he passed. Sounds to me like they're already putting the blame on someone who can't defend himself.

    1. Kevin didn't design the plan. He was in the process of putting it together based on Atlanta's directives. That would be Randall Bloomquist and possible some additional input by Mike McVay. John Dickey was just upped to "programming supervision" as Executive Vice-President after demoted from Co-Chief Operating Officer last month.

I still can't believe there is no one here in the Bay Area or in Atlanta monitoring KGO - especially with the "entertainer." Yes, Dietra Miles in Dallas (also doing the same in Washington DC for WMAL) is getting trapped into bullshit with Karel.

Last night, it was him giving her hell about not being on Twitter for a half hour, then her not knowing how to post "selfies" for all to see and the joking she get's forced and cornered into.

The baseball score reporting in the bottom of the 9th by both Miles and Karel was so bad, she ended up with the "49ers playing the Cardinals." Karel is trying always to make her a "hipster" and she takes her eyes off what she's supposed to do -- report rip and read news.

      It's a shambles over there.

Hearing Pat Thurston talking about penises doesn't make it any better, as she did last night. The station is now in the Fall Nielsen's. I wouldn't be surprised if there are no real changes before January.

Karel and that stupid laugh and the "I sang this, I produced that, I helped write that, I sang background on that" is getting so sad and sick. His hollering at callers who disagree with his arrogance is way over the edge, too.

Why isn't anyone listening to this turd-in-the-punchbowl? Dallas news readers must go - even if Cumulus is a major investor in the centralized Dallas newsroom -- for cheap.

  5. I tried to listen a couple of times but this woman's voice is incredibly screechy and she kept making these high pitched squeals (no words, just noise) when responding to Karel's incredibly stupid questions.

@rootvg - It is NOT the Dickey Bros "sandbox." The radio airwaves are supposed to belong to the public.

    1. Technically? Yes, but given the preponderance of media, rise of digital and continued challenging economy...all I can say is good luck.

It's theirs. Trust me. Who's gonna get in their way?

  6. Rich, please look into any SFGate reaction to the almost unanimous reader hatred of the "new and improved" site. sfexaminer.com looks great, but doesn't cover national/world news, doesn't allow commenting, and is infrequently updated. This matters more than Deidra Miles not knowing where the Redbirds come from!

  7. outsourced local news...now I've heard everything...it's all about the corporate masters treating the listeners like cr#p.

  8. OMG!!
Please, just shut it down. Preserve what little dignity is left of those call letters and just shut it down. Why even pretend you're a news outlet of any relevance? Change call letters and change programming. Go to music, news, religious, disney, ethnic...anything. Just shut it down!!!

  9. 1 ... I echo 12:36 P.M.'s interest in the reaction of SFGate to the still-impossible-to-navigate format.

2 ... While the "Arizona Cardinals" gaffe is embarrassing, it's not something that came packaged from the Dickey brothers. It goes back to Marconi.

I remember a KGO Radio P.D., in the early 70's, in a livid rant because one of the station's "well paid - A.F.T.R.A. represented," news people delivered a story that involved the pastor of a "First CONGRESSIONAL Church."

  10. I was listening one night and Deet-truh (1600) Miles (away) was giving the weather spiel. She said how nice it was and then added that it was "really, really nice). How in the hell would she know how nice or not nice it is? She seems to have found a BFF in Karel. After all, KGO is a "family."

  11. Amen, 1:21. KGO is a travesty. Note EVEN a mere shadow of its former self. And unfortunately, I cannot recall (because they were so heinous???) the ** several ** glaring grammatical errors Dee-truh Miles made on a recent "cast" - repeated more than once. (Did she go to grammar school, back in Tex-as?). Sad and pathetic........

  12. Even worse than this is the worthlessness of the KGO traffic reports. They don't even pretend to have a clue or announce where in the Bay Area the problems are or any details of them. They're clearly only reading the raw feed of the CHP traffic incident screen.

  13. I get a chuckle every time I hear a traffic report that is after drive time on KGO. Robin Winston and Mark Nieto, who are consummate pros during afternoon and morning drive are terrific, but then they are replaced by these obviously low paid clowns in some far off, dingy studio in Texas. They mispronounce names of our cities, towns and streets, and generally are useless. Why KGO even wastes the time and the money for these sad-sack hacks is beyond me. You can always tell that they're not from here when you hear them butcher a name of a street or town or speak with a Texas twang. Great move Cumullus! That's really going to get KGO's ratings out of the dumper.

    1. Are you not aware that cumulus owns radiate, which is the Dallas based traffic service? There's your answer. Actually, it's two answers: why they use it and why it's terrible.

  14. This probably doesn't affect the Bay Area market, but word on the street and some financial boards is that Cume-less is looking to unload some of its station to pay down a rather large debt. This could happen in 2015, some speculate.

  15. How about when she chides us to watch out for bad traffic or an accident on 80 and 113. No area cited such as "near Dixon, etc." Then when she talks about "no chance of rain today," like it is an every day occurrence here. Her little asides are absolutely annoying. How much money can Cumulus be saving by having these pretend newscasters and traffic reporterp hacks on the air??

    ReplyDelete
  16. Why is this even a discussion anymore? We all know it's terrible and that these out of towners with no connection to the Bay aren't going to fix it. Just listen to what they did to KFOG. Turned the most unique non public FM station in America to a generic piece of garbage, run of the mill, sounds like everything else station. SF culture being dictated by Atlanta? It'd be laughable if it wasn't so effing sad.

Cumulus has no answers but to grow, cut costs and hope to cannibalize the radio competition. Except they will be destroyed by other forms of media because they don't actually work on enhancing their product. They strictly think in terms of assets, and the people doing so are 2nd and 3rd tier minds.

The owners and execs will grow rich and everything else will be sold off after bankruptcy.

    Write it down.

  17. What no one remembers the Mil-Penis comment followed by close to 30 seconds of dead air while the whole news room must have been laughing their asses off at a fill in traffic guy. He was talking about an accident on 880 at 237 in Milpitas.

  18. Ms. Miles is the very worse of the imported traffic-weather-news reporters. She will tell people inthe middle of summer to pack an umbrella for the rain. Then she NEVER mentions any city or specific area when there are traffic problems. Just highways and off-on ramps. Also she mentions traffic problems from Dixon or Bodega Bay. She really needs to go.

The other ones seem to be ok They actually sound professional.
