Is There A Baseball Game On Tonight? Heather Holmes Power Chick At KTVU; Katie Marzullo Please Smile; Ditto Allen Martin; Vern Glenn Continues To Act Like Raddy; Ashley/KGO 9 Newscast On KOFY Best Bay Area TV News Show; Tuesday Starter

 TUESDAY START-UP ITEMS

*Is there a baseball game tonight?

*KCBS' Bob Butler, also head of the National Association of Black Journalists is pissed off at CNN

*For the life of me I thought that the All-Star Donut place in Soma was the location of the Sudden Impact robbery scene--I was wrong. No donuts for me, I'll stick to the turkey sandwich at Tommy's Joynt.

*Heather Holmes is telling people that she really is the straw that stirs the drink at gloomy and doomy KTVU. How much so? Well, if Haener and Michaelalien were cat-fighting, Holmes and the other assorted femme fatales would be having an all-out brawl. So goes the word.

*Katie Marzullo apparently subscribes to the Claudine Wong, I'll only smile if I have to. Memo to Katie: you are an attractive news reader --try not to act like a robot otherwise you'll end up being a Peggy Bunker.

*Allen Martin: have a cocktail, loosen up. Ask Rosenheim if you could take a night off and get a couple of pops at the Old Ship, damn, quit acting like your shit doesn't stink.

*Dennis O'Donnell: Careful there, Shooter. (GAME OFFFF!) (She really does have a crush on you but that's entering troubled waters.)

*Vern Glenn: Remember the good old days when you acted like you and not Raddy? Vern, be yourself. And quit the schlocky interview yap with 49ers players, you're embarrassing yourself. It's a pain in the ass to watch lately.

*The big newsie inside KPIX is that the ex-female weather star is having renewed snippy snips with Dano. Oh, for gods sake, Dano, bury it once and for all.

*More torture than a half-hour of being waterboarded: hearing Veronica De La Cruz chortle, GAME ON! VLDC: Oh please, just stop.

*Unclear on the concept department: live shots in front of AT&T Park today and tonight. The game is in KC, not SF. Game 3 is in the city. Speaking of which, time to hit the Marina bars for screaming, drunken, fat white guys and chicks wearing Panda hats and Buster Posey jerseys.

*Radnich had a tough day: sat in traffic on 101 on his way to Levi's Stadium to do a radio show. Well, see everyone, when you have kids and all that responsibility in life you have to ....wait, that's what Raddy will use soon on the all-commercial station. That's his entire script. Watch, Giants lose first game: Maybe the Royals are just a little better. Blah, blah, blah.

*KCBS: Repeat...Repeat...Repeat...Repeat...Repeat. Jesus Christ! ...and another thing, THIS JUST IN: Susan Leigh-Taylor doesn't know shit about sports. If you're gonna ask Madden a question just know what the hell you're talking about--or let Bitker handle it.

*Speaking of Madden: count the number of times the old coach says...."That's the thing."

*Sussman on KSFO: count the number of "OK's" and "folks." On an average day, double digits in half-hour alone.

*Sussman sidekick, the traffic chick: you're beginning to sound like, wow, totally, dude, hopeless, (sound the mattress train sounder).

*Bitker to Madden this morning: "So, you going to watch the Giants game tonight?" No, Steve, he's going to a wedding party in Fremont.

*Hands down the BEST TV newscast in town: Dan Ashley/KGO 9PM on KOFY: Real simple news. No nonsense or silly games. Occasional humor. Quick, straight tosses to Beil and Christian. The fastest 60 minutes on local TV--a newscast that doesn't dumb down its audience with gimmicks and artificial theatre.

*KRON/Pero Update: more screaming and yelling at staffers. Maybe he has a small something.

*Would any of you mind it if I had a quiet couple of drinks tonight with a new female reporter from a TV station? I ask because it's strictly business but with all you guys kvetching it might be interpreted as much more than that. It isn't. Who is she? None of your damn business.

*Royals in 6.

  1. The difference in this World Series will be experience. The Giants collectively have 25 World Series rings among them. How many do the Royals have? KC has also had over a week off, which is never a good thing when you're as hot as they've been. Plus they haven't exactly been wiping teams out, as they've been taking a lot of close games in the post season, starting with that come from behind thriller over the A's. Experience counts in the big games, as teams that have been there before, as most of the current Giants' player have, usually hold up well under pressure. For KC to win, they've got to get on base and run and run and run and distract and disrupt the Giants. I just don't see that happening. Bumgarner is virtually unbeatable on the road in the post season, and I don't think KC gets to him tonight. Peavy goes tomorrow and he's also been nails down the stretch and in the post season. And the Giants have been hitting the ball very well the last few games of the NLCS and that should continue. I like the Giants in six games, maybe five. I could be wrong, but I think that KC, though a great story, will not have enough calmness under pressure to deal with the Giants on the big stage.

    1. KC has only one more day off than the Giants. They clinched on a Wednesday and the game is tonight. That is less than a week.

    2. You could say a lot of the same things about the 2010 Giants as people are saying about the Royals. Teams that don't know any better scare me.

    3. I agree with
Retry much everything you say, and they have a toughness other teams don't have. That toughness goes beyond postseason experience, because they had back in 2010 when they were just starting their semi-dynasty. Giants in six.

    4. This series is over. The Giants will win in a 4 game sweep.

  2. Funny, those Marina panda hats and Buster jerseys are about a day and a half old. Is there a more annoying, fake fan base out there?

    1. yeah, fake fan base with over 3 million through the turnstiles every year since AT@T Park opened. And guess what, every team in sports have bandwagon fans when they win

  4. What is your problem with Claudine Wong? I watch her and Mibach every weekend and she smiles plenty and has a great sense of humor. She looks great which shouldn't matter but it does to you anway. She is a great anchor and one of their best reporters. One of the very few reasons left I watch that train wreck. I'd vote her to the evening news in a heart beat with Mibach. They have good chemistry and like Wong, he's a great reporter and anchor.

I agree with you regarding Claudine Wong. She is nothing but great. Why should a newscaster smile when reporting that a Mack truck has run over a three year old. Does the bible say that there is a time to smile and a time not to smile?

    2. Does seem odd that Rich keeps up with the "non-smiling Claudine" saw...she seems appropriately sunny and cheerful when I watch, but not saccharine-fake

Maybe Rich likes ladies that fake it? But that would mean first they'd have to...oh, forget it

    3. Mike and Claudine are both incredibly talented and great to work with. In the newsroom, they're probably the most easy going anchor pair there.

  5. " time to hit the Marina bars for screaming, drunken, fat white guys and chicks wearing Panda hats and Buster Posey jerseys."

So, the difference between them and Rich is a Panda hat and a Buster Posey jersey?

Never met her or worked with her, but anyone who wears animal prints constantly and redoes her hair every third day has got to be an attention whore. I'm sure she's as much fun to work with as a beauty pageant winner, and probably about as bright.

Madden: Have you ever heard Frank Calliendo's Madden impression? Effing hysterical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqN8v5pZC54

    > Hands down the BEST TV newscast in town: Dan Ashley/KGO 9PM

I was saying this to you three years ago when you were still calling KTVU the gold standard and saying the quality hadn't slipped, even though it was obvious that it had. Glad you finally caught up to me, though it was even better then before Trixie took over.

    3. Dan Ashley is very good. Seems a little too much on the straight and narrow for my taste sometimes. Probably prefers white toast and vanilla ice cream. I bet he normally drives in the right-hand lane and drives around the block instead of making left-hand turns. Probably looks in the real estate listings for properties in Pleasantville.

    4. What's wrong with any of that (except the right-hand turn and right-hand lane things)?

KC's bullpen is lights-out. KC also plays better defense...and can all run like the wind on the bases. Also...Moustakas and Eric Hosmer are too loose/laid back to be affected by any pressure. They keep the team loose--they're all a bunch of frat boys over there, having fun. They haven't gone "big time"--like some of the Giants have in recent years.

  9. Rich ... Do you have to use "JESUS CHRIST" as an expletive? As a Jew, you don't believe he is the Messiah. I would think you'd just as soon think He never existed at all. No, I'm not a right-wing Christian or anything close, but this is just unbecoming.

    1. Jesus was the King of Jews. I bet when he died nobody at the time called themselves Jesus Christ-ians. Would have been insulting- too soon.

  10. Hey Rich, that post was too long and too intense. You've got to keep things lite and fluffy like Veronica or us hipsters will stop tuning in.

And, while I'm at it Rich, can't you put some of your commentaries on video so we can just click and watch. It's really getting to be a pain-in-the-ass to actually have to READ EVERYTHING. This blog seems like something from the 18th century, before the discovery of radio and TV. My God Man, it's time to get up to date. If I don't hear or see you it's harder to get your vibes! Vibes are everything, that's what media is about. Feel the vibes, that's my motto.

Nothing. What's wrong with a satirical post? It was a joke, dimwit! Your discernment is what's the size of a mouse's brain.

  11. Knock KRON, insinuate another cat fight between anchors, put down Giants fans, again with the KCBS repeating stories, dis Radnich and two of his disciples etc.
    Must be a Tuesday.

All RL left out was how great Savage is and repeating the Asiana story.

  15. Raddy will say he caught the tail end of the game because he was busy being a father and a loving husband. He will also say he was busy picking up the Bentley at the detail shop. If the Giants lose he will say it doesn't matter because we live in the Bay Area where we have beautiful surroundings and we don't live and die by our sports teams. Tomorrow will be a better day. Along the way he will bash unions and say: "I did not need a union. I walked in by myself and negotiated my contract with my employer."

Actually heard a live radio spot from there this morning at about 6am. Can't get more lame than that. I don't remember the reporter, but it was one of the former TV dudes. How humiliating for him. Does anyone, even at the station, believe this adds value? It's just a bunch of words, people. Makes no difference where they originate. "Yep, I'm here at ATT park, where it's dark and deserted......." Exclusive!

She,her hotness, got a big grin while stirring her Margarita it looked like, and in that hot chick attitude said "Fuck yeah, their the Giants!"..and then giggled non stop that she said fuck on live TV.
Radnich later said "The biggest controversy wasn't the game in our newsroom,it was JR Stone's report...."
