  1. On THE GAME, they frequently have crossover segments between the show wrapping up and the upcoming show and yet, for months, there was no bit between Greg Papa & Lund with Damon Bruce. Until recent weeks. Did the Papa/Bruce relationship thaw a bit? What changed?

    1. Greg Papa, under the radar, can be a very difficult person to work with. He's also got an ego too. Put two and two together.

    2. I've worked with many professionals that do crossovers; they just put everything aside and come up with something informative or witty, cute or leading like pros should ....uh, I think I just put two and two together.

  2. What's really going on at knbr with kate scott and radnich? Is she finally being told to tone it down? Or is Raddy also on some shakey ground? He isn't on this morning.

    1. He's under the weather.

She's less in on segments because she destroys any decent bit with her simpleton nonsense.

      Delete
    2. While I agree with your assessment of Kate Scott, I can't imagine the bosses at KNBR see things your way. I have always assumed they envision her as a rising star, which just makes her presence all the more maddening.

  3. Joel and Corey on 910 is the worst program on radio. How come you never mention anything about them yet are always mentioning Gill Gross? Is it because Corey is the person in charge of that station? Or because Joel was the person giving you the information about Gene Burns over the past couple of years and don't think it's right to trash him? C'mon Rich! This is a complete mess on the airwaves! Say something!

    1. I have never listened to the "Joel and Corey" show--one time I glanced in and didn't think it was very good. That was it.

Joel was not my source on Gene Burns .

I don't "trash" people that are insignificant. Gil Gross is another story as he's the most notable performer on that station and I pick on him professionally because he has a crappy show, in my opinion.

  4. Raddy took his "I have a cold" day off. Unlike the last year when that would happen,Kate did not slide in to the chair flanking Kreuger. Somebody had to decide that. Somebody had to decide to keep her in her place. And,it was decided after her meltdown when Radnich embarrassed her reciting a 415 article.
    Isn't that correct?
    And,who decided?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes Stan, you're correct.
And yes, it was Raddy mostly because even he knows that KTS louses up the show.

    2. Good on Raddy! kate scott makes bob fitzgerald seem listenable!

    3. Ha. It' close, but for me even Kate Scott is more tolerable than Bob Fitzgerald.

    4. Raddy brought up a 415 article? Fill us in Stan the man.

    5. LOrd, did the traffic reporter flip out today when Gary brought up a legit comparison/query about Bumgarner and Kershaw. She was in full anger mode, not even doing schtick. She is the ultimate homer. I can't believe anyone has ever called Kruk or Kuip a homer, as they call the Giants out on bad plays or bad moves. The traffic reporter will not tolerate any talk of another team, even if she doesn't have her own show (and never should, either.)

    6. Since you insist 1151: This is how it is. When Raddy mentions RL,Kate Scott either shakes her head side to side, the next level makes thumbs down hand gestures..or when it goes on and on about what RL wrote about her?,she goes ballistic. And Raddy went on and on.. Krueger that day said even he was filling uncomfortable..it was kind of crazy that what started as "how wrong 415 blog was about Raddy doing a she goes or I go" actually turned into an angry shouting match between Kate and Radnich. Irony all over the place.
I have noticed she isn't allowed to speak for the first 15 minutes of every show. And Raddy wont ask her a thing.no opinions wanted.
One last..that decision? Kreuger said about Lee Hammer "We know who really runs this show".take that as truth or copout?,Its up to you.

  5. My other question: Tim Kawakami,Marcus Thompson,Ann Killion,Sue Slusser, and other local "experts",ALL said or wrote that the Cespedes trade was brilliance. I wrote it was the worst trade Beane ever made.
And to those who cry "Billy is given a small budget" My answer is: John Fisher alone is worth 3 billion dollars. He and Wollf bragged of deep pockets when they bought the team, and the A's have never lost money in Oakland in half a century.
So, that excuse is ALL self made.
"The A's will sink like rocks" said here by me in June on 415.
    Is that not correct sir?

    1. Yes Stan, you're a genius and the rest of us just don't get it.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you brought up Fisher, one of the richest men in USA, worth billions. "Small market" my ass.

  7. Hey Rich, who get your nominations as the three worst sportscasters on local radio and TV, and why? My picks? Kate Scott, Fatty Fitzgerald, and 'Jeremiah' who sometimes sounds as if he's illiterate. Rod Brooks and 'Pee-Con' get honorable mentions, as does John Lund, who's constant guffawing at his attempts at juvenile humor is really annoying!

    1. Actually your three sound pretty good.
      Lund is the topper though.

  8. What do you think of "shock-jock" radio programs like Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony? Funny stuff or sophomoric crap?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Howard Stern is actually a funny and entertaining personality, it's an acquired taste. I've always thought "shock jock" did Howard wrong; he is genuine and he doesn't make up nor do his thing to shock--it's HIM if you like him great, if he's not your cup of tea, I get it. Howard is intelligent and can interview too, that's all I care about.

Opie and Anthony, I've never cared for. Too canned for me.

    2. Howard rocks. Best interviewer in all media, hands down.

  9. When did Pat Thurston become a raving fear mongering hysteric? Held my nose and tuned into Ronnnn this a.m. to hear discussion about Secret Service. No Ronn, yay! Pat T filling in, yay! Then she went completely sideways. Ebola!! Bay Bridge!! But according to her, the Secret Svc, like Brownie, doing a heck of a job. There isn't a single intelligent person on that station.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Pat surprised me, today, too.

She's obviously very bright ... I say that because her point-of-view, almost always, meshes with mine. ; )

I would tone it down, a bit, from "raving fear mongering hysteric." That's a challenging goal that would be difficult to achieve in one program, considering what else is out there on the airwaves.

But, the anger at the US for the Ebola victim in Texas ... where better, than Texas? ... and, the alarm over the bridge were uncharacteristic. (Note to Pat: When the inevitable "big" quake hits, you won't have to be on the Bay Bridge to "be dead.")

I was in/out of the car, and didn't hear the Secret Service comments.

Don't leave us, Pat. We need you!!

    2. I'm actually enjoying the new ideas. The old pot smoking, super liberal Democratic party talking points Pat got on my nerves.

      Delete
    3. Pat is a breath of fresh air on a station that is stale as week old toast. She goes a little over the top sometimes, but I would love to see her replace Ronn when his contract runs out.

  10. Will morning KTVU anchors Dave Clark and Tori Campbell get kicked to the curb when Fox takes over the station? They definitely need to do something to kick-start that newscast.

    1. Tori Campbell will be gone, most likely when her current contract is up in 2016.

      Dave Clark, I'll call around.

Any btw, you're right about MO2.

    2. As bad as Tori Campbell is, I'd rather that she continue instead of Dave "Sing a Song Kiddies!" Clark. That guy is nauseatingly AWFUL!!!!

    3. @ 12:01PM...
Tori isn't as bad as Dave Clark is, imvho...And I agree with you Mornings in 2 needs something new to give it a "kick start."

I loved MO2 premise when it 1st started up, it was excellent. Now all they do is repeat the same news stories every 10 minutes!

  12. Caught John Rothman on 910 this AM taking calls. Nice change of pace and great radio like the old days at KGO!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, amazing relic: insightful interviews and simple conversation. Imagine.

      Delete
    2. Wish 910 would put John Rothmann on more often, he is unique. They are rotating hosts from 10 am to 1 pm, often have Ed Baxter on, I like him, he knows radio, has lots of connections from his time at KGO, so gets good interviews, he rarely take calls, I think management at 910 discourage calls, since few hosts takes calls, but their ratings suck, and they don't seem to get better, maybe they should change their format. Anyway John Rothmann takes calls and as far as I'm concerned he is the most interesting host on that station. Seem like those of us who like good radio have less and less choices. After 6 p.m. I use to listen to John Batchelor, then at 7 I could choose between Alan Colmes, Tom Sullivan and John Batchelor, for the next 3 hours. Now my choices are Sean Hannity (whom I can't stand for very long) Bloomberg news, Kgo news and Alan Colmes, whom I like, but he can get a little tiresome, so it would be nice to have choices.

  13. Hey Rich, why is there no crossover segment between the morning show and the Bloated one in the morning. I do remember a few years back, Brian Murphy telling Raddy that his mom was upset at all the jabs that he constantly took at the morning show....oh and one more, why is the awful Scott Farrell on instead of JT the Brick ? I remember his show being real popular when it was on a few years back..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think Murphy is in love with Radnich and vice versa therefore a "toss" as they call it is avoided.

Scott Farrell is annoying to me too...simple matter: JTTBrick is on earlier at night and therefore not on 680 AM.

  14. Richie: The A's contract is up on the 95.7 The Game. Do they stay or do they go to another station?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know they, (the A's), are exactly thrilled but their leverage has abated, (see, last night)...

Ideally, they go to a 50K-watt station but those are taken now which means they'll probably stay with The Game.

    1. I don't "hate" her, just her work. It's probably more annoyance than anything else because she's so bad and I'm the only one who will call her out.

I have nothing against her personally --that said, she's god awful on the radio.

  19. No matter how popular New York-rooted Howard Stern is, it is still impossible to take seriously anyone who calls himself "Fartman". He has been labeled 'Shock Jock' because a lot of his criticisms were well over the top. Never found him entertaining at all - in fact, find his occasional lewd comments very sophomoric and off-puting. Unfortunately, in the Bay Area, there isn't anything better; that's how Live 105 survives despite their average ratings. BTW, one thing Stern has in common with the late Joan Rivers plus current famous faces like Kelly & Michael, Regis, TODAY's Hoda & Kathie Lee, and of course, Mr. You're Fired himself Donald Trump - as long as New York loves them all, the rest of the country has to put up with them, no matter how often we avoid them, flip the channels, ignore them, or even fire them from our lives. I miss Rivers' fashion criticism, respect Ripa & Strahan immensely, and applaud Kotb's cancer survival. The rest of them, I can do without. Because of the Bay's dearth of quality radio, our region may often put up with all these New Yorkers more than other metro areas. A shame.

  25. Hey Rich, I was curious to get your take on this: Why does the Game actually have a reporter (John Dickenson), who goes out and covers the local teams, talks to the players, and gets post game interviews, while 'The Sports Leader' doesn't have anyone like that? Kate Scott and Matt Kolsky also do traffic, but they never seem to go to any games or get interviews. KNBR also doesn't seem to ever have anyone covering the Raiders or the A's. How can you call yourself the sports leader when you ignore two of the 'big five' pro teams in the area? And If you're going to call yourself 'the Sports Leader,' don't you think you owe it to your listeners to at least have credible people who are not just traffic reporters doing the updates and also reporting from the games?

He is on from 6 to 9 p.m. on KSFO 560, or 12 noon to 3 p.m. 650 Sacramento, and for those of you who like me liked Tom Sullivan (even though I don't agree with his politics) Tom can be heard from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on 1530 Sacramento, if you live in Contra Costa County or Solana you should be able to pick those 2 stations up on most radios, I even get 650 on my car radio on the Peninsula.
