Flash: Clear Channel Secures Weekend News/Traffic Contract For SF Station; KGO Nearing News And Talk Hybrid

 Breaking...

Clear Channel has secured a contract to do news and traffic on the weekend for a SF radio station.

*KGO nears major programming hybrid of news and talk.

The Clear Channel move is confirmed through two sources on the inside.

As far as KGO speculation is rampant: Said a station source: "We're guessing it's combination  news and talk.-- 'These guys at Cumulus are an absolute joke!-- announcement of Ron Escarsega's departure lasted about 45 seconds."

Gary Pizzati, corporate VP then says ..." that's it, everybody but KGO/KSFO sales...you can leave the room."

  1. So, they're going to get rid of the clowns in Texas who currently do weekend news & traffic.

    2. What way can Cumulus turn now? Talk from either side isn't in their favor, all news doesn't work for them with competition. Decisions, decisions.

    3. The analysis about talk, at least in my opinion, isn't about left versus right talkers and what will work in theBay Area. It's about the quality of the talkers, whether from right/left or in-between. There has to be a "there" there. The decisions shouldn't be made based on age or political persuasion, because that won't work. It should be based, quite simply, on talent. Does the general listening audience have a reason to listen? Will they learn something? Will they be surprised? Will they be angry? Will they listen the next time? Will they feel they are part of an interactive public forum? We all think we could program a perfect talk station/news station. I'm sure it's not that easy.
