KTVU Posts Fake Starbucks Logo on 10 0'Clock News

Embedded image permalink I can't make this up.

Maybe KTVU needs to look over their resume checker.

  1. I've seen that logo, and I don't get the point of it, other than tricking people into a purchase. I'm really surprised that Starbucks has not shut this foolishness down hard, as they gain nothing positive from permitting it. My guess is the business owner of "Dumbstarbucks is a Lawyer with to much time on their hands and is trying to start some expensive battle over trademarks. Sort of like that annoying Mr. Newdow a few years back. Remember him? Newdow was pretending to be 'offended' because of the phrase "In God We Trust" on our pennies. Get lost, buddy, just go!

    1. Are you referring to Michal Newdow, the ER physician and lawyer ? He was never trying to make money with his challenges on the god-infused currency, coin, and oaths promulgated by a consitutionally secular government. He's a full time ER doc, not running a law practice. As opposed to him having, in your words,"to much time(sic)" he has very little time, has every right to be an atheist and to pursue riveting legal questions in the courts. No wonder, you found him annoying.

      I love coffee, I don't go to Starbuck's.

    2. This from t he woman who commented "Up yours!" to the Pope about silliness about "human spawns" vs. paying attention to "dogs" on her Facebook feed. What a phony. To busy playing on FB then getting a real job. She uses fake lawyer-speak to impress people here to show how big a schmuck she really is. Get a life, Christine. People have a right to seek religion freely as you have a right to renounce it. You have what right to criticize others for religious belief, why? Don't run behind the Constitution. You don't know what happens after death. So much for equal rights you preach, provided it for just you, according to the mighty Christine. Bitch.

    4. uh 8:31...is that "bitch" you use, part of your Christian belief system? For the record(ask Jeebus), when someone is "to(sic) busy" , it makes no sense. The word is "too" , not "to". I will, however, not be too busy to talk about the pope today on KGO radio from 1-4. I'm neither a fake lawyer, nor a fake Roman Catholic of long standing.

    5. Christine's penchant for correcting minor grammar mistakes reflects her desperation to be right about something, anything, no matter how petty.

Oh, how pathetic she's become in her losing, life-long quest to justify her delusional opinion of her own superiority.

No more lecturing in your condescending manner.
Just fly away on your broom.

  3. This is what happens when you hire a 32 year old news director who cares more about twitter than accuracy.

    1. Someone Bourdain was interviewing said the bar for silliness is very high here but this is just awful. They're the local Fox affiliate for God's sake, akin to WJW in Cleveland where they happen to take pride in their work.

I've said before that I honestly believe we see so much of this because it is so prohibitively expensive to live and do business here. So many of us seem to be running scared for financial reasons (even the doctors, they're up to their ass along with the rest of us) that cost cutting to the point of recklessness is order of the day. This shit seems to color everything that happens in this gorgeous but chronically unfocused and prohibitively expensive place. It's Disneyland in so, so many ways.

  4. Rich, seems like it was deliberately showing that logo, not a mistake at all. Not by them anyway.

  5. KTVY has outsourced their graphics department to Indukistine.

  6. What's the date of that broadcast?

A few months ago, the very existence of "Dumb Starbucks," with the look-alike logo WAS a news story. For a couple of days the fake was shown on many stations/networks.

If this was on a recent broadcast, then you're right that this was a major "oops." But, if it was a broadcast from the time the story was being covered ... no problem.

    2. #4:05..."It Happened Last Night " is one of my favorite flapper era films. Done in the 1920's with Clark Gable and I can't recall the woman who hitched her skirt to obtain a ride for the both of them in a Model T. Carol Lombard maybe.

    3. Claudette Colbert. Best picture of 1934. Directed by Frank Capra, long before Zuzu's petals and Bedford Falls.

    4. You mean, "It happened ONE night," right?

    5. Correct 8:46am
It happened one night is worth renting. I better be careful on my spelling or the angry spelling teacher who roams this website will lecturer me on the correct spelling. Meanest woman in Sacramento.

  7. No excuse except incompetence for not using the correct Starbucks logo. Pathetic.

    1. Incompetence, hell. That's unprofessional. I'll bet you wouldn't see it at KCAL and you damn sure wouldn't see it at KCAL, WFAA or even KDFW.

  8. I didn't watch the newscast, why was the logo shown at all? Were they doing a story about Starbucks?

    1. I didn't see the newscast either - but Starbuck's will be raising their prices - so yes, it is likely they were doing that story and that's why they showed the logo.

  11. I know the producer of the "Dumb Starbucks" gag, which was a promo for a Comedy Central show. The producer *prayed* that the health department would shut them down quickly or that Starbucks would send them a cease and desist letter, since the gag was costing thousands of dollars a day in free coffee and pastries. It took the health inspector a few costly days to get around to the inspection and ultimate shutdown order.

  12. While this is unforgivable and cements the fact that KTVU is dead and buried, the lede has been buried. Starbucks is raising prices AGAIN? Fuck Starbucks!
