Wednesday PM Dish: De La Cruz Debut at PIX MIA; The Game Scoops KNBR in Jackson Interview; Papa/Lund Semi-Believer; Barbara Simpson is Still Nowhere To Be Found Amid KSFO Listener Backlash; The Wash

Wednesday PM Wash

Either an extraordinary case of bad luck or something going on dept: The much-hyped debut of PIX's 6 and 10 anchor, Veronica De La Cruz, who was to begin reading the teleprompter on Monday, hasn't happened.

Maybe she and the hubby got their first mortgage notice early and collapsed.

*Yes, kudos to "The Game", (95.7 FM) for getting Mark Jackson and cleaning KNBR's clock on the Warriors flagship. More telling: why Jackson didn't do Knibber? Here's a clue: think Noon-3 PM.

*OK, I'm slowly becoming a believer: Papa and Lund could be something as long as the fart noises and comedy routine get liquidated. The show doesn't need shtick--the information and back and forth is good enough, and yes, if it's a decent show, people, sports radio aficionados will listen especially when compared to the tripe at the same time at Knibber.

*Barbara Simpson backlash: they, (KSFO/Cumulus), didn't figure there would be that many people pissed off over a weekend host although she's been there 19 years and has a loyal following of conservative Johns and Joans in suburban abodes like Pleasanton ---a more ominous note: Simpson still MIA and hasn't said a thing, hope she's OK.

  1. Veronica De La Cruz isn't married. Veronica's boyfriend at the time she was in New York left her when he found out she was pregnant with his child. He just took off and was never heard from again. What a scumbag.

    1. Sounds like the ex boyfriend is a Tom Leykis listener. Did she keep the baby? Also Rich I'm confused. You say de la Cruz did NOT debut but a poster on the other blog entry stated "de la Cruz was a bit nervous" on her first telecast. Someone is confused and it's not only me...!?

    2. Veronica kept the baby. Last year on Father's Day, she tweeted on how hard it is being a single mother.

  2. 7:28, I'm impressed at your insider knowledge. Can you tell me how it is that you know this about Ms De LaCruz? You can tell me....Just whisper it in my ear.
On the other topic, I think it's high time some of Barbara's neighbors knocked on her door to see about her. Your Mission, should you decide to accept it, may not be fully pleasant. So what if she cusses you out for spoiling her privacy while she's holding a drink of Jim Beam. She's entitled to get stoned after last week.

  3. I agree in re Papa and Lund. Papa is the most honest host on sports radio. Event though he works for Comcast as well he doesn't seem to pull any punches. When those two cut out the adolescent sexual innuendo crap it's a pretty good listen.

    1. Granted that should happen, but the shenanigans will continue. If it wasn't for schticks & shenanigans, then it would be decent radio. Unfortunately, all Lund knows is schticks & shenanigans.

  4. Does anybody know if Barbara Simpson has severed all ties with KSFO? Just because her weekend show was cancelled does not necessarily mean the station will no longer use her as a fill-in host or to do radio ads. If that's the case, that would explain why her KSFO Facebook page is still operational and why she has been very tight-lipped about commenting on the situation.

  5. The 680 noon-3 had Mark Jackson excerpts from the Dan Patrick show-lame. I time Papa and Lund 2 minutes in from commercial and a minute out from commercial they behave like children. The middle portion is real good sports radio. Kinda of like a Kobe tri-tip sandwich with Wonder Bread (the crappy outside part with good middle).

  6. Papa and Lund have the funniest show in the Bay. If you want your sports talk dry, listen to Albuquerque, NM sports talk. If you want your sports talk funny, entertaining, spit out your coffee, engaging . . . . welcome to the Bay.

    Enjoy.

  7. I thought de la Cruz was supposed to debut in June and not this month.

  8. Did Murph and Paulie at least do a Mark Jackson firing song?

  9. Hey Mark....you're fired...you're fired....you're fired!!! Hey I like the sound of that and think I'll sing it again...! Hey Mark! you're fired....!

  10. Rick Bucher scooped KNBR by interviewing Jackson the following morning. They worked together at ESPN.

  11. If Babs is as conservative as she is profiled, then she should be just fine following the likes of Ayn Rand and Pat Buchanan that the "Market will decide"

  12. A conservative is a liberal who got mugged last night. A liberal is a conservative who got fired last weekend.
