KPIX High Profile Anchor De La Cruz Missing From Airwaves; Still 'Settling In'; Misses Important May Sweeps; Attends 'Cultural Event' at Station

Veronica De La Cruz, the mucho-pubbed new 6 and 10 PM anchor KPIX hired to vamp up its content and probably lessen this anchor's 'face-of-station' status, is still absent from the Channel 5 news desk.

She was to have begun her reading-the-news duties back on May 5th.
More importantly, PIX had hired her well in advance of the May sweeps period which has now ended and presumably during that all-important time, to introduce her to the Bay Area and amp up their new acquisition.

Wrongo.

De La Cruz, who most recently was a MSNBC anchor, is not AWOL nor has been kidnapped by strange aliens in spaceships from another planet. In fact, she attended a recent "cultural arts" event at the station. Then why is it she's been missing from Channel 5's newsroom?

A PIX staffer tells me it's still family stuff: "I really think it has to do with settling in and being ready to take on the job." So, she has the wherewithal to attend a station function but is unable to go to work and be ready for sweeps? Sounds suspicious to me.

"They wanted to revamp the 10 PM 'big time' and she's, (De La Cruz), is anchoring it, but no sight of her.  Still settling in with her mom and nanny."

I find it utterly incomprehensible that a CBS O and O in the 6th market that makes a splashy hire to enhance its presence on the local news scene is OK with De La Cruz's mysterious absence. Furthermore, and all the more irritating, KPIX hasn't said a word. Not to its staffers nor to its viewers. A little nod every now and then is most helpful and doesn't rev up the rumor mill. How simple is that? Apparently KPIX is OK with the present status of people in their own building who don't know what's going on and a key news hire mysteriously "settling in" after sweeps. Or not, in this case.

Whatever.

  1. Stop trying to find scandal where there isn't! If you've dug a bit deeper into Ms. De La Cruz, you would find out that she has a child whose father actually abandoned the instant he was notified that she was pregnant. Also family is very important to her -- which shouldn't come as a shock because she is Filipino.

    1. Nice generalization there.

    2. No scandal, but either you're ready for the gig or you're not. That she has a family is no excuse. Everyone has families. I'd fire her ass, frankly.

    3. Rapp: i wonder if you even work in type of capacity at a TV station. it sounds like you don't. just creepy. you have absolutely no idea what's going on. you don't know the real story either.

  3. PIX's bloated middle management is still figuring out how to revamp the 10. When that happens, you'll see Veronica. The way things move at PIX, expect it to be another 6 months.

  4. Perfectly understandable situation, Rich. Every former babysitter in SF is now driving for Uber, so obviously, she's got to stay home with the kid. Show a little compassion, will ya?

  5. I can sympathize with someone who is experiencing family problems, but this no-show act smacks of a person with a self-centered and dysfunctional character.

    1. Yup, kinda like another former anchor who enjoyed throwing fruit.

    2. How do you know the no-show is the anchor's choice?

    3. That is the inference in Rich's post, 10:31. Do you have different and more credible insight on the matter?

  7. Here is what happened.
De La Cruz is a big star.
Elizabeth Cook is the "franchise player" at Channel 5.
KPIX is not big enough for two stars.
So one star told the other star to beat it!
    And she did.
Now you know the true story.
    Thank you.

  8. Another story about someone who would probably love to be a 'real celebrity,' but doesn't have the talent to get into show business. Some TV anchors are just cheap knockoffs of B rated Hollywood movie and TV types. And really, who cares?

You don't need talent to get into show business. The people who are in show business are proof enough of that.

  9. Two current thoughts on PIX for RL: 1) The De La Cruz family struggles continue - even the most prolific Bay TV station can't cut red tape when it comes to child care; and 2) No matter what RL thinks about Martin & Cook working together, while they may not be buddies by any stretch, I can't picture their differences ever reaching WWIII-level proportions. I think basic Professionalism 101 plus a decent human level of mutual respect toward each other's reporting efforts makes any despotism between the two highly unlikely, never mind that the station, for all its warts, has never really suffered fools gladly, compared to the other stations' respective soap operas (A 'Witless' ND at one station, incompetent GM & ND at another, eternal uncertainty at another, and another station whose network can't seem to get out of its prime time, Sunday morning, and weekday morning ways despite its nightly news remaining Numero Uno and acclaimed late night programming.)

  10. Ms De LaCruz has some fervently loyal lobby bloggers in the Bay Area. RAPP81 has written here before under Anonymous. I recognize the writing style. Well, hopefully Veronica will find a way to stay with KPIX. For many reporters, such a position would be a dream come true, so I wish her and the little on the best.

  11. With respect, the only place Veronica De La Cruz is "mucho-pubbed," is around these parts.

  12. How do we know there is even a Veronica De La Cruz?
NBC may have made her up on a computer.
She may be a CGI person.
That is computer generated image for you idiots out there.
KPIX probably found out that she was CGI and is now embarrassed and is keeping quiet about their blunder.
    Well, that solves that mystery.
Who has the next tv mystery for me to solve?

  13. It might be as simple as immigration paperwork for her or her mother. Not the end of the world.

    1. De La Cruz was born in the US. That makes her mother automatically a US citizen.

Stop thinking that all people of color are immigrants. You are one ignorant person Stan. No wonder everybody thinks you are crazy, because you are crazy.

    2. Crazy, ignorant, and creepy!

The people on television become part of Stan's imaginary life. He thinks he knows these people and he is one of them. Again the King of Comedy, Rupert Pupkin thing.

    3. Quick note for those who wonder why Stan comments here instead of his own blog, NO ONE READS HIS BLOG.

Just glanced over to check out his blog and while it contains all the routine obsessive comments here about Radnich, Racism, etc., there isn't a single comment, NOT ONE. No one reads it. He comes over here to 415 Media because it's the only place he can get a response, even it it's to tell him to go away.

    4. Really? I guess-maybe- then its not a immigration issue. And that's if I believe you. With the follow up attack its hard for me to do that...
On the other hand. Whats her issue?...you don't know. Uhuh.
Oh,and I'm very,VERY, close to the Filipino community so cut the shit.

    5. The only thing you're close to Stan, is your TV and radio preprogrammed to the local Bay Area stations. Just you and you lonesome self watching/listening to the TV and radio 24/7. Wow...what a life you must have.

    6. And when I point out that you all seem to spend a lot of time posting comments about somebody you say you don't read..Rich doesn't post those comebacks of mine. Too reasonable I guess.
I mean, how many times can people say they read my blog and comeback to say "nobody reads it?"..insane. And as I said before 38,000 views.
24/7?..yeah,I I wait for the pony express and mail too. Do you even get that joke?

    7. Oh,and one other thing. Unlike most of you,I have sponsored a Filipino to a new life in America, and have also rented to those who had no credit and put a roof over their head. And they always thanked me.
I wonder what some commenting asses or those types in the sports world have ever done for people besides ladder climbing to fame and fortune?..

I heard that before from a person similar to your outlook on life Stan. That person said,

"You just, do I know? I support them and give them food, and clothes, and cars, and houses. Who gives it to them? Does someone else give it to them? Do I know that I have—Who makes the game? Do I make the game, or do they make the game? Is there 30 owners, that created the league?" - Donald Sterling

    9. Stan @4:18,

There must be some point to your mentioning you "sponsored a Filipino to a new life in America" but damned if I can figure out what it is.

Stan does sound like Donald Sterling, just dumber.

    10. Stan's blog has ZERO comments. Nobody reads it.

    11. Stan, regarding your complaint that "Rich doesn't post those comebacks of mine", here's an idea. Why don't you limit your postings to your own blog. That way you'll have complete control over what gets published, and the rest of us will be free of your endless, tedious ranting.

    12. Stan, if you really did do those positive things you posted at 4:18, that was good, but you're not being good by bragging about it. If one does good things, do them with no thought of reward or ego boost.

    13. Why does Stan thinks he deserves a medal for renting to Filipinos? It's illegal to discriminate. Doesn't the great liberal Stan know that. Pathetic that he's boasting about it.

    16. YES 1039. It is that mentality. Its why all those posts month after month are anonymous. And why they repeat themselves. And ask yourself why you don't admit you are a white male republican and based on how VERY fast has you answered..a shill
Its like your sitting at knbr monitoring this blog. And why,I never get posts from you on my blog...dont want me to trace you back to knbr?.
Like Rich says all the time..cowards post anonymous.

    17. UH OH everybody! Stan is getting heating and blaming everything on white Republican males again.

Stan, try to make a comment that doesn't fault white republican males or interns. You can't because your tiny brain can't comprehend the real world. Shit...you can't even comprehend basic grammar at that. I'll let you get back to your hobby, which is stalking Gary Radnich.

      UMAD BRO? Lol.

      252,
Damn straight!. Is Raddy groping anymore? Is Raddy telling Jackie she's going to be in LA one day? That back handed slap in the face comment he made for years until I couldn't take her- like a puppy- thinking he was being nice- and he laughing at her on the inside as they say. And so,I wrote about it here. It seemed so mean a thing of him to do . In private is bad enough- but in front of thousands? like picking wings off a butterfly. He's dropped that.
Only one person wrote those things. I could go on. But,those are just the latest. 39,000 views for a guy who has a hobby blog on the media. When you are extremely perceptive and don't lie to people..they want to know..
