  1. To hell with the loyah. Where does Lieberman live fit into any of this!? I still remember the compelling Lieberman live show in which Rich inquired as to the Loyah's net worth and was hung up on. We need more compelling radio of that ilk. While you're at it bring dean edell back dammit! How can Ryan "chimichanga" Scott have a show and not the loyah?

  2. Man, This is like CA Chrome going for the Triple Crown! Having Len back would be GREAT! However, like anything with Cumulus, don't bet the ranch yet. "This is a friendly competition only, so please, no wagering.".

  3. Great. So mullti-hour infomercials on how old people can scam the state and federal government out of benefits, and let us set up the trust to do it, is on the agenda for the new KGO? Maybe the Dickeys can negotiate for a percentage.

    1. I'd rather old people "scam the state and federal government" than the illegals that are milking the system daily here in the good ole Bay Area.

    2. @9:46 very intelligent insights. Where do you stand on old illegals who scam the state and federal government? Is there a difference? Can old farts born here scam the government without a problem?

    3. I think the point is that the illegals aren't even supposed to be here. The fact that they are means that basic laws aren't being enforced.

  4. Please bring back the loudmouth NYC Jew Lawyer and Bill Wattenburg!

    1. Putting Dr Bill back in his old saturday/sunday time slot is the only way they get me back. He belongs on the West Coast blow torch. He spends too much time on the brain dead moron's in the later time zones. Let Noory take the calls from the chemtrail 9/11 conspiracy nuts.

Sadly Ray T has as much chance as Ralph Nader has at a Presidential Debate. The Big Money boys don't like that talk.

    2. I'm conservative, but I did listen to Ray. He is a part of the fabric of the Bay Area. Some people in San Francisco and the East Bay have a long and prideful history of bucking the trend, questioning the mainstream, and generally taken roads not traveled. He is a representative of that characteristic and would be an absolutely terrific local addition to KGO. Besides, he gives good radio. He's a very entertaining individual with his presentation, a glib man who can really rile callers. I rarely agreed with him, but that's beside the point..

He (and Bill W, too) was always a signal that KGO wasn't cookie cutter radio.

  5. Two observations: No comments in the five hours since this was posted - so, how popular is "the loyah"??? Second - this must be quite an old photo of Tillem...he's in his mid - late 60's, which this pic obviously isn't. I think he's one of the rudest crudest hosts on the radio - and thought so when he was on KGO (he thought he was being funny most of the time....many didn't see it that way). No interest in having him back on KGO

    1. Who cares about his picture.

Len has a face for radio. And nobody really likes him. But people want to hear his lawya stories!

    2. Probably the sanest and most revealing post on the matter. The stories, his sarcasm, his humor make Len Tillem what he is, like him or not, personally. Plus, he doesn't have a rap sheet.

  6. I loved the old KGO, and don't listen to it now, but here are the facts:

Although KGO was still profitable, Cumulus dismantled the old KGO because its ratings were in free fall, and it wasn't drawing the desired demographic and a format change was in order.

Or, as WRonnnng Owens put it, "The listeners are demanding more NEWS!"

So presumably the plan was to turnaround the station by implementing a news format and get the ratings back on an upward trend.

Now after 2 years, that plan has proven to be a miserable failure. They took a profitable station and turned it into a money loser. And ratings have never been lower. Great job Dickey.

OTOH, what is the point of going back to the old KGO format?? You would be right back to square one Dickey!

What a mess... The first step to solving this mess is to get new owners for the station.

  7. Yes to Len and a big "Hell, No!" to Wattenberg...talk about rude and condescending...Wattenberg was the biggest know-it-all on the air. Sheldon Cooper without the personality. ACK!!! (With apologies to Bill the Cat!)

    1. The Constituion does not protect your right no to be offended. Sorry.

    2. May I suggest proof-reading? I have a constitutional (note the spelling) right to turn the dial if some blow-hard offends me...and I have no problems using it. I just didn't like evenings when Bill W. was on and I really wanted the radio to keep me company in the car...I'd just switch stations. Easy-peasy!

    3. Bill W gave good radio like Ray T did. Bill spoke to the unique technical knowledge of people who resided in the Bay Area, and the fact that he was a curmudgeon simply took what would have been a dull subject and made it into an interesting radio show. That's brilliant, in my view. Very much like Ray T, he could really get upset with callers, and this was adding tension to what would have been a dry discussion. I usually agreed with his political views, but that's beside the point.

  8. As one poster noted regarding Bernie Ward, "To err is human, to forgive divine". Bernie had issues with porn and also with his weight. Kinda like most of the folks who live and work around you... Neither of these "problems" impacted Bernie's ability to attract callers and listeners. And, to be honest, sir, Ray Taliafaro also consistently attracted callers & listeners whether you agreed with him or not. Kinda like Len T and "Dr. Bill". Bottom line: Like them or not, these call-in hosts were worth Czeching out, and that's more than you can say for most of those holding down the KGO fortress these daze.

    1. @2:08 Bernie had in issuse with CHILD PORN, not legal porn showing consenting adults. Bernie will be on the sex offenders list for the rest of his life no matter where he lives. "Most of the folks" who live and work around me don't have that problem.

      Delete
    2. Another reason Ward won't be back, he will not be allowed around or to own computers, including a smartphone. It'll be hard for him to research topics. 99.9% of Gill Gross's topics come from Reddit or Fark.. Gill even lifts the same lame jokes from the headline/user comment section of thoe sites.

    3. The only problem and difference - none of those you speak of were tried in public, by high court, with incredulous media and shipped up the river to Beaumont and a federal prison on the Central Coast for seven years. That leaves a mark, and an impression. Pee Wee Herman had quite an act, too, until he was busted for masturbating in public at a movie theater. The point, attracting phone calls and an audience is one thing, being tried in the court of public opinion and by cour(s) of law is a whole different thing. Forgining may be devine. It does not, however, erase those scars long after the emotioonal beating has been leveled..

      Delete
    4. But surely, 1:31, you are technologically skilled enough to figure out a work-around for that problem. All he'd have to do is hire a producer to glean the materials, make hard copies and provide them to him. jAdditionally, don't assume what the release conditions will or will not be. Those, if any, aren't known yet. I have an "emotioonal"(sic) reaction to post-release conditions for federal inmates who have served their full mandatory terms. Don't you?
Finally, I think it's somewhat more difficult(with no computer in your pocket), but life and radio talk can run, without smart ass phones. Gene Burns did scintillating, elegant talk for many years, without being able to see. John Daly and Nicole Grigg and others stepped up to the plate and enabled that.
I adore those old Pee Wee movies. I think his career is now reviving, or at least I read so on an I-pad. He was watching some nurse naughty movies in a porn theater. Seriously, who cares?

  9. Bernie Ward are you kidding...what's next Donald Sterling on real estate...gimme a break get some local younger talk show hosts and throw in Gil Gross as one of your drive time news anchors. He's great at news and crickets as a talk show host.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Donald Sterling made his 2 billion dollar fortune on real estate investment. I imagine he has a lot of knowledge about real estate. I doubt he has any interest in doing talk radio. 8:20 needs to use capital letters to tell us the obvious. Capitalization is not writing. 8:20 thinks he knows what the folks around him all do privately on their computers. creepy

    1. Christine,
Are you that emotionally tied to your friend Bernie, that you are blinded by his representation to most of the public? Loyalty to your friend is fine and loving, but Bernie didn't serve 7 years for nothing. Some one - judge, jury and his peers in a court of law found him guilty as charged.

He's, no doubt, had a lot of misery in Texas and in Lompoc. His family has suffered immensely. The thing is, though, is that the law, for whatever the reason found him guilty and, now, scarred for life. There's no hiding from that, no matter what. A shame, yes.

Every prisoner in a penitentiary has said the same thing: "I am not guilty." If that's the case, that's very sad. However, Bernie and you don't right the law. Bernie and you don't enforce those laws. Other people did and found him indicted and guilty.

Your excuses which you liberally throughout this blog and others for years bear no weight or understanding how people think. Deflecting blame on others, as you often do, shos your emotional immaturity that, for some reason, has never been fulfilled except for Bernie Ward. Your opinions are your right and, especially, your own. Postng them on this matter with excuses is not helping you, your understanding of why others feel as they do about this once great legend and it makes you look weak.

    2. But, Bernie, not being one of those who claimed he wasn't guilty, doesn't fit into your neat scenario. In fact, a top radio reporter(who worked with Bernie covering the LA riots and the oakland hills fire) who just visited him for several hours, reports that Bernie is working on a book about why he was glad he went to prison. He's lost 150 pounds, runs nine miles a day, and is no longer diabetic. He didn't serve 7 years, as you state.
I don't give a rat's ass what you think about Bernie, or me. As I said, initially when the subject of Bernie being on the radio was raised, most people don't think he'll ever be on the air again. Once again, this time without feeling, I don't know if that is true, or not,nor do you.
I'm a lawyer, I don't need a primer from you about how the legal system works. Apparently you are in support of mandatory federal sentences for thought crimes. I think that someone who actually sexually assaults a child should get a longer sentence that someone who looks at pictures on the internet. We differ in that. So be it. I have no idea about what you mean when you say that "Bernie and you don't right the law". I'm pretty sure you don't, either. Similarly, your declaration that my "excuses" ,"bear no weight or understanding how people think" just makes no sense. I'm not purporting to represent how anyone else thinks.

    3. I'm thinking that the Cumulus attorneys would put the kibosh on Bernie Ward returning.

    4. You do give a rat's ass or you would be such a bitch in having to defend every fact or leave out things about Ward. Who gave you the right to get the last word all the time, anyway. Who died and made you boss? Does KGO like you posting all the time or is you being just "Christine" hide your identity enough?

  11. I will put KGO back on my presets if Len comes back. I am praying he returns.

  12. I liked Bernie's show and don't think he should've received a prison sentence but let's get real.

The stigma associated with being a sex offender (of kiddie porn no less) is just insurmountable for a radio host.

Has Bernie ever specifically apologized for LYING to the public about researching a book? I don't think so... Moreover, he (and his wife) have continued to make themselves to be victims of a political motivated witch hunt.

He has lost all credibility and in terms of returning as a talk show host, he is an untouchable.

Guys like Marv Albert have staged successful comebacks after rape convictions but I'm not aware of any child porn sex offenders who have.

Despite, the fact that Bernie never physically molested anyone, the public is simply not accepting of anyone with that background.

  13. Bernie Ward was a good talk show host. That being said, he is now a convicted sex offender, and would be unable to get past that if he were to be put on the air. Every time he opened the phone lines on whatever subject, the callers would bring it back to his offenses.
