April '14 SF Radio Ratings

 Radio Ratings--SF April '14

Nothing dramatically to report for the latest SF Radio Ratings for April.

We know the drill.

Baseball catapults KNBR to leapfrog over KQED to second place behind perennial #1, KCBS, which fell slightly.

KGO flatlined at a 2.0 and Cumulus sister, "Hot Talk" KSFO fell below a 2 at 1.9. Entercom's 95.7 FM All-Sports, "The Game" had a modest increase, delivering a 1.3 which, given numerous advertising and A's flagship and a programming overhaul, had to be disappointing. My best guess is The Game's thinking is to wait three months and then have a better reading into their new programs. The much-hyped Morning Program appears to be a downer according to industry wags...Damon Bruce is only a month and half into his new PM drive gig--(soon, we will do a critique on his show.)

Other notes:

Clear Channel's "Talk 910" had a 1.2 and can't seem to get any better. Their 960 AM "Patriot" is in test-pattern status.

**We always have to remind you that these ratings are merely "Beauty Contest" numbers and are not the data that advertisers use to buy time.

  1. Now that Randi Rhodes is leaving 910, I have no reason to listen. I hope she lands somewhere I can hear her.

  2. As long as The Game continues to have a radio signal powered by a hamster they'll never gain any ratings.

  3. Kate Scott has said almost nothing lately on 9-12. "Yes" is non existent, and it took the third time in 2 days of Radnich talking about gay kisses for her to say something today. She's for it.
Beaten down. Listening to raddys advice is going to help her like it did Dibley..out in the cold. Same for Rick Bucher.
Bruce? Angry, man. At a higher level then ever. Kinda nice even if he's wrong. But attacking Papa ( One "P", gotcha Greg)while making sure he doesn't offend KNBR is laughable. I think Bruce isn't convinced that thegame is long term for this world.

    1. Beaten down? She should be kicked out, that's what. And no, she's not been beaten down. She's the same arrogant, interrupting hypocrite she's been since day one. Lose her.

  4. so is there a way to tell which part of the channel has the high ratings, etc? For example, sarah and vinny are great and have a huge audience, but the music on Alice sucks and they play the same songs over and over. I guess what I'm saying is, i'm assuming everything is lumped together for ratings?

    1. yeah, how can we see the time slot v/s time slot face offs? how can we track the battles of the titans and titanics?

    2. You can't. The rules don't allow public disemmination. The ratings books cost too much for subscribers. The ratings books are "estimates" only and only those paying for those estimates get the breakouts and breakdowns of what they mean.

  5. KGO radio is announcing it recently won some awards for excellence. Sad, sad, sad that KGO radio won any awards for anything. They run the exact same shallow stories for hours on end; their Texas traffic reporters cannot correctly pronounce a large number of locations (funny at first, pathetic now); and they run interviews taped previously while having the announcer pretend it's a current interview (just inform listeners that the interview was done previously - it sounds ridiculous to talk to the recorded voice!). Also sad, sad, sad to hear the line up for the upcoming KGO debate and made me mad again that the new talk show hosts are all so weak compared to the ones they replaced. Just a lot of talking heads, uninformative, unimaginative, reactionary.

    1. Those "awards" were based only on 2013 entree when they were at least "trying" though not very productive. If the judging were today, KGO would have to give the "bought" awards back to recoup their money.

  6. D Bruce's show was very good on monday, going beyond just the ordinary sports talk but a frank discussion of Bruce's thoughts on gays and lesbians (sparked by the Michael Sam kiss). And then he handled the whole Trent Baalke/Susan Slusser/A's players "on again-off again-on again" radio on the fly situation very well.

Greg Papa had some good thoughts on Michael Sam as well.It was nice to hear these guys step out of the sports box from time to time to talk about some larger subjects.

  7. Surprised AM 960 ratings are still very low after the dramatic shift to all Con hate radio. It struggled as a liberal station and is struggling as an all conservative station. I'd say go back to Liberal cuz Con hate radio is everywhere and is just horrible.
