Monday Shocker: Longtime Bay Area Anchor Diane Dwyer Leaving NBC Bay Area

Shocker: Diane Dwyer leaving NBC Bay Area, (KNTV)

NBC Bay Area weekend anchor, Diane Dwyer, a Bay Area native who also had a multi-year stint at KTVU, is leaving the station.

Her last broadcast is June 8. She will continue to be involved with the station on some special projects from time to time.

Dwyer teaches at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and is involved with the Institute of Design at Stanford.

VP of News and Director Jonathan Mitchell informed staff of Dwyer's departure in a memo--here's a portion:

Diane will be a part of some special projects in the year to come, and while we won’t see her every weekend, she’ll still contribute on-air from time-to-time.

I’d like to thank Diane for her years of service to NBC Bay Area and our community.  Diane is an excellent journalist and we’ll miss her on the weekends, but we’re excited about our future projects together.

  2. If I had to guess? She prefers to move in a world that doesn't tell her -now in her 40's- to keep her hair a certain color,or monitor her weight. Left or Right, who wants to hear that in middle age?

  3. Sounds like TV was a weekend hobby with everything else she has going on.

  4. I worked with her at KTVU as well and still work there - the 10 O'clock News folks all loved working with her. She is one of the smart ones who always worked hard as a writer, reporter and anchor. It's a shame when a woman who works hard and wants to be thorough is described in vulgar terms, while if it were a man - he'd be "tough" and a hard worker. Just another example of sexism in this industry. Good for her for getting out before they make her get a face-lift or something.

And where's your evidence of that, other than in your own head? Any stats?

I've worked with plenty of males who were bitches too. And women who are wonderful. I call 'em as I see him. Gender doesn't get you brownie points or condemn you.

The only sexist here is you.

  6. This board is so trashy. Scumbag Lieberman needs to do a better job monitoring what gets on this board.

  7. She is great on-air and off the set. With the recent number of people dropping from KGO they would be dumb not to hire her & put her on the anchor desk. (THIS IS NOT DIANE) :-)

  9. Having worked with Diane, I can tell you she is NOT a nice person. She treats producers and writers like she is the Queen Bee. Nobody at NBC11 is going to miss her. Why do you think she left KTVU years ago? Because of her charming personality?

    1. I'm a producer, and she was one of my best teachers when I worked weekends. I loved working with her and have talked to a lot of people here at KNTV who will miss her very much.

  10. I only watch NBC11 on weekends because of Diane. I saw her once at a fundraiser for low-income kids, and she sat at the table with the kids rather than the VIP table. That's when I decided she was the real deal.

  11. I saw Diane on numerous occasions publicly criticize and ridicule writers and producers when she anchored the morning news at KTVU. She would send them messages telling them to come over to the set in the newsroom because she had questions only to make them wait several minutes. This is after the producer had already approved the story. She always had to have the last word...
