Monday Morning 415 Media on Sterling Controversy; KNBR's Radnich Says Boycott the Games Undercut By Dumb Traffic Sounders; Ronn Owens and Harry Edwards Lecture

BAY MEDIA REACTS TO STERLING CONTROVERSY

As I predicted, Ronn Owens did a phone interview with Dr. Harry Edwards who went on and on and on and on preaching the obvious: Donald Sterling is a bad guy, a racist and that the NBA should rid of him.

Easier said than done, Harry, but oh well. Furthermore it didn't matter to Edwards that Sterling's words, however dumb and ignorant and racist, were obtained illegally--I don't think you can't tape a phone call without letting tapee know you're taping.

Sure, Sterling should go and probably will but it's going to take a while. All of this, inevitably is headed for the courts which means months and years, probably.

*In the first ludicrous media moment of the day, on KNBR, Gary Radnich said both players from the Warriors and Clippers should have boycotted Sunday's playoff game. Fair enough, until the bulk of Radnich's take was obliterated by the endless, on purpose, repetitive traffic sounders blaring in the background...shows you no matter how serious and important the subject matter is, KNBR's hideous "producers" will act like a bunch of twittleboard nitwits.

  1. Lieberman disapproves of KNBR traffic sounders during coverage of Donald Sterling controversy.

    Gee, that's a shock!

  2. Does anyone even listen to Radnich? The man is a fat baffoon, why waste your time, he has no sports knowledge.

    1. I try to listen. I can do about one minute on the radio and three minutes on the tube. That's about it..

  3. It wasn't a phone call.
    He said it.
So because he didn't know he was being recorded we are to forget what he said, it never happened?

  4. After that,Radnich went right winger..blaming the woman as "setting him up".Radnich also proclaimed she "didn't love a man 50 years older". He knows. A caller did set Radnich off by saying that Radnich has A PATTERN of blaming woman and also that Sterlings GF is 50 years old. He then pointed at Radnich has a marriage to a much younger woman when he had made money himself. Get this,Raddys comeback? "I had children with her" as if that's real love. The caller then said she's 50,maybe she and him didn't want children. He pinned Raddy to the wall.
Radnich like he did with the Krueger - Alou fiasco, blames the victim. A pattern.
btw Is Kate Scott there? If so,She hasn't said a word.

    1. As most readers of this blog already know, Stan can not correctly interpret what Radnich says, maybe Stan had turned down his radio to cook his breakfast.

To state it plainly, Radnich abhors what Sterling said and says he's got to go. Also, apparently Stan, or some other crackpot like Stan, is sending crazy texts to Radnich of something or other.

Stan is so obsessed with his nutty Radnich fantasies that he somehow views Radnich as a villain in this situation when Radnich, like everyone else, totally condemns Donald Sterling and his repulsive statements.

    2. As 1035 ignores what I wrote- all true- About what Radnich said. Its typical of kook KNBR lovers to do that. How dare I report what Radnich said about the woman anyways they say. He said it,and he's getting heat for it.

Also, this "illegal' recording claims? That's if used in a court case. For anything else, its your own fault. Especially if Sterling left that message on a machine. Either way,its not illegal.

      Delete
    3. I also heard Radnich condemn Donald Sterling. Stan must be hearing voices in his head because he sure as hell didn't hear what Radnich was saying.

    4. 1142 as usual also doesn't say my quotes are wrong. What I want to know is..Why Radnich if he was so upset at Sterling, then went after the GF who he was dead wrong on with facts like age,and "having babies"? What was the point?
And maybe a better term for what she did is "not criminal".

      Delete
    5. Besides like I always say..he plays both sides to any argument and even Rich Leiberman the other day said that Radnich will spin both sides. And,he did even if what he did as to accuse the relationship as inherently wrong because she's younger. And you all know the hypocrisy in that.

    6. What idiotic thing is Stan trying to say about Radnich? Does Stan imagine Radnich is a racist? Anyone who knows Gary's family knows that just not the case.

      Delete
    7. It's been asked before but why can't Stan simply use his own blog to express his daffy thoughts? I'm tired of his convoluted comments about Radnich and whatever other nonsense he's confused about.

Stan frequently brags about the enormous popularity of his own blog. So Stan, save your precious content for your own great blog and kindly spare the rest of us here at 415 Media.

  5. Raddy telling Mike to "stick the traffic sounders up his ass" was also classy radio...if Raddy didn't roll on and on on tangential things that occur to him as he's already bloviating, they'd make the traffic breaks on time, no sweat.

Then he comes back, somewhat chastened, after the break, trying to make nicey-nice, and asks Mike who the Sharks should start in goal tomorrow for game 7...uh, it's game six and it's tonight, ol' pal, more evidence of Gary's complete lack of care and prep for a show...guess he did not have time for the painstaking prep of flipping through the Chron this morning, with all the deep thinking he had to do about Donald Sterling, etc...

    1. @10:43, you mean a talk show host extemporaneously talking about the current story of the day bothers you? You're offended because Radnich didn't stop at the appropriate time for traffic breaks?

      Delete
    2. Oh yeah, that's rich...Gary talking "extemporaneously"...i.e "done without special preparation or care"...you just defined his recent career, thanks so much for that,

I think if he's any kind of a wit and a human above cretin level, he might be able to find a phrase other than suggesting his colleague "stick it up your ass," but perhaps that sort of treatment of co-workers is the coin of the realm with Uncle Gary these days...wonder how he'd react if given the same treatment?

Him screwing up the breaks doesn't bother me at all...seems like being reminded that they are running a show that depends on timing does irritate him, though...

      Delete
    3. @10:43 and 12:15: What are you so angry about, you listen to KNBR for the traffic breaks?

So you're mad that Radnich speaks extemporaneously or doesn't speak extemporaneously?

      Delete
    4. Your posts seem to focus on miscasting what I'm saying and then asking tangential questions based on that mischaracterization...is that all you have? It's junior varsity Internet arguing, at best, or you failed out of law school before Moot Court was over. Getting a bit tiring...

I don't listen for the traffic breaks, but I do know when they are coming and that they are part and parcel of doing business...is that unfair to expect the same of Gary and be surprised when he is very coarse with a coworker trying to keep the schedule? In your world, I guess it is unfair to restrain this terrific speaker...matter of fact, why should he be restricted by breaks at all? Hours and hours of talk, no commercials, that would be swell!

I was never mad about him speaking extemporaneously...I was taken aback by him using the term "stick it up your ass" to a coworker, one of lesser status, when Gary, rather than tease the rest of the conversation, insisted on bulling through a break that is at the same time daily...do you find that professional on his part?

Since you have Gary's back, why don't you tell us what you like about his show, his preparation, his classy exchanges with coworkers on radio and TV, his terrific sense of humor, etc?

      Delete
    5. I don't listen to Radnich for timely traffic reports. If that's so important to you perhaps you should try KCBS.

      Delete
    6. I'll give you credit, you are consistent in miscasting the comments you then choose to refer to!

Why DO you listen to Radnich? A few examples would be helpful...perhaps I am missing something with (in your view, not considering anything else I clearly stated) my total focus on traffic

  6. He wasn't being taped over a phone. He was recorded in an open room. A case could be made that he gave implied "consent," as he may have seen the recorder.

  8. Uber-wealthy geezer Sterling had his trophy gf.This was to create the illusion that he still had sufficient testosterone. When he sees instagram of her with the famous Magic Johnson, whose sexual conquests are second only to Wilt the Stilt, he felt deflated. His other uber-rich geezer friends ribbed him about it. No doubt, he suffers from that odd white man fear of the mandingo sexual prowess of black men. Of course it's racist, but that's the obvious part.
I'm amused that the caped crusader of moral outrage here is podunk mayor, Kevin Johnson. This is a man with his own past excapades, fondling underage girls. That's moral outrage for you!(google magic johnson sexcapades, kevin johnson underage girls.

    4. No active sexual affiliation for Christine. She loves guns, dogs, and mythology - her own personal mythology.

    5. Well I'm sorry to disappoint you. I'm not a lesbian. I am however, grown up enough to know that a rich, powerful old geezer who is married and who parades some arm candy who is young enough to be his grandchild..probably wants you to think he's still virile. If you simply research magic Johnson, he describes how he got HIV through group sex encounters in the Laker's locker room. Surely you know that Wilt the Stilt was famous for over 20,000 conquests he claimed to recall. None of this is difficult information to discover. And yes, many, though not all white men are intimidated by the alleged sexual prowess of black men. Is this really a surprise to you?..Kevin Johnson and his wayward johnson and underage girls are also old news. How those facts somehow make you assume that I think heterosexual sex is evil, reflects on you, not me.

    6. I've seen the picture of the girlfriend on this site and how could she ever be mistaken for anything other than black even though she exotic looking as well?

Also, you have to see from the girlfriend's end. This guy, Sterling, wanted her to deny her race practically and not to be seen with people of the same? That's liable to piss anyone off. If it was a set up so be it. I'm sure no one (meaning the general public) would believe a word of it if it were not recorded.

I can't imagine how many famous blacks had to do so (deny their race) to become famous or to "make it".

    2. Agreed it's more than a bit opportunistic on Johnson's part.

    3. A reminder: YMF Media bought Inner City Broadcasting two years ago. The "M" in YMF stands for Magic Johnson, and his participation in the purchase of one of the last African-American owned radio chains was crucial to many who were concerned about minority ownership and participation in American broadcasting.

YMF sold off the Inner City properties one by one. Today, New York flagship WBLS/WLIB is owned by Emmis, San Francisco's KBLX is owned by Entercom.

Magic Johnson's offer to buy the Clippers does not necessarily mean the team will be stewarded by, or will be any more sensitive to, African-American interests in the future.

  15. I need to get this in...Greg Papa has very similar conservative views as Raddy, he and Henry Wolford- and good for Henry- were butting heads as Wolford filled in for the rightwing nut Lund last week. Papa made it clear today he isn't a Henry fan. I kick myself I didn't get to hear more of those two last week. I wonder what Henry would have said today as Papa took a cavalier angle on Sterling with sort of what can you do ,he owns the team? attitude. Papa today mentioned that we "Don't have a show for 80 year old woman" that sounded so muck like D.Bruce and Radnich,I can't believe he would even go there.
I'm not so sure Fitz stole his job now..Papa might have thought too much of himself could have been why the Warriors went for the humble Fitz. Ok,that might be tongue in cheek..

    2. Stan I have to ask after all these years and comments....what's your demographic? You don't have to give a specific age..give me a decade. 50's? 60's? 70's? The way you mock caucasian's and conservative people in the biz on here I also have to ask....Hispanic? Filipino? Asian? Black? White?

I have my assumption and I'm pretty sure I'm correct.

    3. Stan, you truly are SPECIAL.

    4. Well, I missed most of the Lund/Papa extravaganza. I think though, that's its interesting that Papa like Raddy and Bruce, started out denouncing Sterling..and an hour later how they really feel in opinion or humor came out. Blame the woman- Raddy, Don't let it effect my sports watching - D.Bruce..or He's rich, they do what they want- Papa.
Also,Raddy started to put the blame on the GF on KRON..And Pam Moore did what Kate Scott didn't, telling him "Whats her motive got to do with it?". "Its not the issue". Radnich did a lot of hyperventilating as even he knows he didn't have Moore in his pocket on this one.
So,after all the posts here about Radnich "denouncing" Sterling,Pam Moore heard what I heard..blame the victim. Radnich never learns. Amazing.

What I do? I post what Gary Radnich actually says. And they and HE hates that. He went on a rant just a minute ago..but he left out, "Stan posts what I actually say". You know, like when he ripped Kareem Jabbar for talking about recovering from cancer "Keep it to himself!" said Radnich. OR..he ripped Jerry West and Terry Bradshaw for talking about life long battles with depression "Phonies!,what do they have to be depressed about?..Keep their problems to themselves"..as he did with Kareem.
When Radnich calls critics miserable human beings? He needs to take a long look in the mirror. And then stop telling the story of how he bullied his daughters 80 year old piano teacher. That Raddy, what a great guy..compared to Hitler.

  19. All the rants back and forth as rich people try to tell people what to do.

    1) "don't go to the game stand up and show them it's wrong." OK great idea tell that to the 12 yr old kid going with his father to a playoff game after the Dad dropped $600 on those tickets. Hmm easier to do when someone makes a million dollars a years to stand up and take that action.

    2) the players need to take a stand, great but what about the hourly Staples employees or the front off employees of the Clippers that make nowhere near what the coaches and players make. Players will still get played, the other workers won't and can never make that money back.

    3) players had no idea this is who he was......if you followed the NBA for anytime you knew Sterling was a total DBag. He only wanted to own the team so he could show off to his friends and get "women." For those that want to say the players didn't know this they are totally clueless. The players had no problem taking the money from a known bigot. Doc Rivers ASKED to be traded there to be the coach nobody made him leave the Celtics and the money they were paying him.

    5) the best comments I heard on this came from Tolbert today when he basically said "What?, people didn't know this was the guy Sterling was?....I thought EVERYBODY knew him and what he was."

I am tired of people who don't follow sports or sit on the side and then try to get involved in this story telling me how I should feel or what I should think. It's easy to talk a big game when they get free passes to games, get paid big money to play a game, etc. Because one owner who's been known to be a complete and total bigoted loser doesn't mean the entire league is bad and I shouldn't enjoy watching my team play. One owner doesn't make an entire league......

    ReplyDelete
  20. 8:35...Do you think all the players who complain about the racist sentiments of NBA owners in general(not just Sterling) and who want to start their own league, an all black league, are just "speculating"? Check out the instagram picture of the mistress that caused Sterling's rant. The hip hop, twerk, gangsta girl ,hand sign, bling flash and pout bit. He has awful taste in mistresses.
The interesting part will be to see how the vultures capitalize on all the outrage, faux and otherwise, to get their own chunk of this fellow and his holdings. Remember, his wife is one tough cookie.

  21. Of course Christine identifies with Sterling's decrepit old wife. Why so angry at the mistress, Christine?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Whether taped illegally or not, Sterling has a well-documented history of racist behavior, some of which landed in court. He's no victim and it would seem that someone whose ancestors were persecuted for being Jewish would have known what it means to denigrate and victimize others.

  23. I don't identify with any of these people. My point is that the wife, who is younger, considerably younger than Mr. Sterling, already has a hand in ruling that empire, and since California is a cp state, a half interest in all assets created during the tenure of the marriage. You may not be interested in how that affects the eventual outcome here, but I am.
Actually I'm much more interested in another, profoundly more disturbing example of discriminatory behavior. Shaquille , better know as "Shaq" posted an instagram selfie mocking a severely disabled black man. See Fox News Detroit for more. I wonder if Don Lemon of CNN will cover that story?
