Damon Bruce Back on Air Tuesday on KNBR; Loses 49ers Pre-Game Gig; Returns Back from Two-Day Suspension

Damon Bruce will be returning to his KNBR 1050 show, (12-3 PM) today, (Tuesday).

Per a source, Bruce will no longer be doing the 49ers pre-game show. That move was not a 49ers decision but a Cumulus move, according to the source.

The move, first reported by Bay Area Sports Guy was confirmed to me by Bruce himself via text.

"I'm back on the air tomorrow ", (Tuesday), said a clearly relieved Bruce.

There had been rampant speculation that Bruce's bizarre, out-of-the-blue, on-air tirade might have cost him his job. It did not, but the question remains how some women might react and if there could be a potential backlash against KNBR over its silence on the entire matter.

A KNBR broadcast source told me Monday night that he was surprised if Bruce were to "get his gig back," but the decision came out of Atlanta, (Cumulus HDQS), not SF. Meaning that the decision was not a Lee Hammer call, (Opps Mgr at KNBR), but Lew Dickey people.

Late Monday night the same source indicated to me that Bruce would indeed be back on Tuesday but 415 Media was unable to get confirmation from Bruce himself until later.

  1. "...confirmed to me by Bruce himself via text. "I'm back on the air tomorrow ", (Tuesday), said a clearly relieved Bruce."

So with one text, you're able to know if Bruce relieved, anxious, furious, etc? Seems legit.

  3. Very brief apology, 2 minutes tops. Then right into 49'ers talk. Audio on the iHeart radio app was blocked so had to resort to 1050's crappy signal in the east bay.

  4. Should have been a two week suspension without pay

  5. On his show Damon is thanking those "For their support". I bet he is. Because KNBR said nothing, the competition "thegame" said nothing as far as I know, and Yahoo Sports said nothing about the biggest local sports media scandal at all. Bruce made national news, Lee Hammer was scorched nationally by Keith Olberman. I mean, you have to be really bad to have Keith feature you.
And all those who post about "PC,Affirmative action, liberal media" got a dose of what I've been preaching. Bruce was backed by the good old boy sports network to the hilt. No woman in local sports media took him on that I know of.
Lowell Cohn did. And that's the sum total of bay area media outrage. And Rich.
I say it over and over..the cultural majority can fall..and get that chance to get back up. The people of color? fall and you fall alone in business.
So good for Damon. He proves Stan's point of how they think and how they have all the best jobs. Deserve it or not.

    1. What might have been funnier was the fact that Amy Lawrence addressed the Bruce incident on twitter, but wouldn't talk about it on air for whatever cheap reason.

Stan claims this proves his point, HOW?

What in the world does this prove about how "people of color" are treated in the business? NOTHING!

Stan draws the same tiresome conclusion from ANYTHING that happens in the world, even in the absence of any logical connection.

    3. He's the byproduct of race hustlers like Sharpton and Jackson.

GW Carver didn't let being a gay black dude hold him back, he just did his thing without complaint and without any assistance from the cultural majority.

    4. 430:
Nancy Gay producer pf Comcast's Yahoo show has not allowed the mention of the national story. Nancy Gay did allow all of black Aldon Smiths troubles to be analyzed and dissected by her network. She was part of last years pre Super Bowl "No sweetness here"...her show couldn't get enough of tearing that young black player to pieces. And today..Dilfer's rip of black Kapernick..Kawakami and Purdy are obeying rules and sticking to that..but don't dare mention Bruce.
I think all should be ashamed, and are displaying the worst of the sports world of shallow journalistic ethics. And who the hell is Damon Bruce to a huge company like Yahoo? Nancy Gay has sold out.

Why do you say that? His show is 2 months old at best.
If you don't like him TURN THE RADIO DIAL.

Let us real sports fans, (who don't agree w/him on everything,) enjoy his passion. He is real, not a patsy like the 680 lineup.
BTW-Larry is loving DB losing the 49er gig.

      Cumulus employs Michael Savage.

    7. There is nothing about this Damon Bruce situation has anything to do with race. Comparing Damon Bruce to Aldon Smith [above] is ridiculous.

    8. Really? this has no racial overtones? So then ask Nancy Gay why Yahoo sports wont report on, or even mention Damon Bruce? The same network that has Romo and Victor Conte as "consultants". Its the white good old boy network and I think woman who let Damon Bruce go unanswered like Ann Killion,or Nancy Gay or Kate Scott are patting themselves on the back as they are basically slave gatherers for white men.
The local sports media should all be given red clown noses as they proudly "Join the Club". That's as professional as they are.

    9. The only racial overtones here are the anti-white, racist rubbish "Stan&#39" is spewing. Why is this crap being published?

    10. Because its true. If not, read me the Kate Scott,Nancy Gay,tweets posts on Damon Bruce. Even Ann just gave Hammer the tweet business, not Bruce.
I love this whole "Damon Bruce tells us what the local media really thinks story" Its everything I've posted on 415 media for the last few years.
And last night on Yahoo? I could hear clown music play as they all laughed. I ate popcorn.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised if the call from Cumulus was nothing more than a light hand-slap, with some wink-wink, nudge-nudging on the side. Call me cynical, but there's probably a fair amount of the Cumulus 'leadership' that probably thought that what Damon said was on the money, but just wished he didn't air it out so publicly and definitively.

"Damon, my boy.. you'll learn over time that somethings are better left unsaid. This was probably one of them. You'll have to tow the line for a bit, but don't lose that passion. Sports needs passion. A man's passion, if you know what I'm saying. Ok, now. Get back out there and let's make lemonade out of this lemon. We're counting on you, boy."

    1. Great comment! A very likely scenario.

    2. That makes a gigantic leap of assumption; that someone higher up at Cumulus actually gives a rats ass about programming and further, that said person possesses human-like feelings (right or wrong minded) about an employee.

    3. The above was making a point about the 'Good Ol Boys' network that has been well documented at Cumulus. Do a search on sites like 'glassdoor.com' (employer review sites) and you'll see comments like this one. http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-Cumulus-Media-RVW2796587.htm The implication being that Damon Bruce might have earned some extra rope because someone higher up likes the way he thinks.

  9. On a positive note, Bruce received a million dollars of free pub and won't find it difficult getting radio gigs in conservative markets throughout the country..

    1. The irony is,that " the conservative gigs" are here in San Francisco. It was the rest of the countries markets that took him on.
