  1. Interesting comment from the NY daily news:

That's a joke if they're keeping her 'cause of her "Asian" heritage. What's more offensive to the Chinese community, the controversy or having the station not fire a Chinese person who doesn't seem to know her own heritage.

I worked there. Roland gave the names to Christina Gastelu, she is a manager. Both she and Roland work on special projects. Christina was the one who called the NTSB and got the names "confirmed." Then Brad Belstock, a Syracuse journalism school grad BTW, made the graphic that made air. Roland, Christina and Brad were fired. The line producer, Elvin Sledge is quitting over "health reasons." Poor sap. They never listen to him and now he has to take responsibility for this? There was no way they were going to listen to him even if he had made an objection. No way. I can tell you a lot of people there are pissed that the woman who read those names didn't get fired. I worked with Tori Campbell. No way she didn't read those names before they went on the air. Ultimately, those names went on the air because she read them on the air. She gets paid a ton of money, not just to read, but to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen. Those guys were in such a hurry to break new information they didn't stop to rank the importance of the information, and/or the likelyhood that another station would beat them to it, if they didn't put it on the air right away. Only one other station in that market even has a noon broadcast. KPIX is so lame they can break an egg. You've got to know your competition, but also WHO CARES, or who is going to remember the names of some Korean pilots!

    1. You must be new to this. Belstock didn't make the graphic but he made one of more memorable Tweets in news history.

    2. 5pm producers don't make graphics for noon shows. Thats what the NOON producer and his/her writers are for. Not sure why people don't seem to get that.

    3. You people are funny. I simply posted a response from the comment section of the NY Daily Times. I've been in the business for years, thanks. The crux of the comment was about Christina Gastelu and whether she confirmed it with the NTSB.

But please. Lecture me on how this crazy television business works. I'm dying.

      Idiots.

    5. @12:25 The commenter did post that this came from the NY Daily News, it's at the top of the comment.

@10:53 My comment was in response to the comment you posted, not to you.

  2. Is the NY Daily News similar to the free Metro paper that you can pick up around San Jose and surrounding communities? Never heard of it. Everyone's heard of the Post tho...

  3. Daily News is a real paper. Post is not. Post is given away as well in NYC after 10 AM.
