Did You See the Giants Post-Game Comcast Show Last Night? Gets Interupted by Child-Abduction Alert

If you caught the Giants Post-Game Show on Comcast, you were JOLTED. Like, LOUDLY Jolted. I swear I've never heard any broadcast alert hit me like an audio volume bomb!

Suddenly the screen goes to an child abduction alert and they have a list of counties (mostly Bay Area)...but not any information on the kid or kids who've been abducted...nothing about the suspect...no automobile license plate or description of the vehicle...Simply notification of an abduction...this was on the screen for 60 to 120 seconds.

And then, according to a reader, when he checked "on line," the abduction was in San Diego!

  1. Who cares?! I was concerned for the kids, not the program I was watching. Someone screwed up, didn't include any detail and interrupted a precious sports program. Seriously, who cares.

    1. Couldn't agree more! Having that alert play for a few seconds wouldn't possibly prevent some low IQ sports reporter from noting that the pitcher had just set a new league record the the number of times he adjusted his jockstrap, while simultaneously spitting his chewing tobacco goo.

It isn't religion that's the opiate of the masses, it's sports. Grow up folks! Your stupid sports stats take second fiddle to the safety and survival of a couple of innocent kids! And if you can't see that reality, then you're even more pathetic than I already take you for.

    2. "Masses" of people enjoying sporting events. Tsk-tsk!

BTW: Madison Bumgarner leads the league in snot rockets per 9 innings, while playing against National League West teams at night when the temperature is below 60 degrees. Just thought you would like to know. Love to share some more stats with you, but it is time for me to savor a bowl of "SportsNet Central!"

  2. Last night's Amber Alert showed up on my cell phone and woke me up. Apparently CHP and AT&T have some kind of agreement. I'll be opting out of that!

  3. The LATimes has an article online about all the whiners complaining about this alert. Two people are dead, two kids are missing and people are upset they were awakened. Not everybody was asleep, some people were at work. Jeez, what is the matter with people?

    1. So if this happened in San Diego...in the middle of the night...when I'm asleep...maybe you could tell me how I could possibly help these people by getting an Amber Alert on my phone.

  6. Rich,
I saw/heard this also. I had thought I had tooooo many brews. Amber Alerts are only effective when information is shared on the parties involved.. I'm sure next time I'll tune out because of this blunder. What a shame.

  7. The safety of children trumps your enjoyment of a post-game show, even if it was not well-handled.
So what if it was out of San Diego, ever hear of cars? That's kind of the whole point of an amber alert, Rich.

    1. I am not sure you have an Opinion on what trumps my enjoyment. We have police to keep kids safe and find the missing ones. I also can not do Law Enforcements job from 400mi away. It has also been reported. This alert did not make it to most in the LA Basin.

  8. I received that on my cell phone, and my first thought was How can I turn it OFF? I don't want to receive these. We need to be able to opt out!!!!

    1. It was easy to turn off on my iPhone by going into "settings" then "notifications" then "government alerts." Turn off AMBER alerts from there.

  9. If the State or the Fed Gov want to pay my Bill, they can send me all the Text messages they want.

  10. You can turn these alerts off. CBS News last night had the info. Here it is:

On an iPhone the notifications can be turned off by going to settings – selecting notifications – scrolling to the bottom of the screen and flipping the Amber Alert button to the off position.

On an Android device, enter the text message settings where the opt out can be found under emergency alerts.

  11. btw, I see a problem with this particular alert method (aside from scaring the crap out of everybody because this was sent at 10.52 PM).

EVERYBODY has a cell phone. If law enforcement sends these AMBER Alerts out to EVERY cell phone, they will be notifying the abductor who will then possibly harm the children since he or she has now been outed.

    1. What a great point. Oh wait I have a jogger in the trunk. My phone just gave out what my car looks like. Better put 2&2 together and Carjack a new one.

  13. Yup.

It happened right in the middle of the chariot race in Ben Hur on TCM.

If anyone's interested in the score, Messala lost.

  14. Once again, a woman and child were killed. Two children are missing. No one cares if the alert scared you or woke you up. Someone has dead and missing loved ones. And we're supposed to care about your beauty rest or jarred sensibilities? Get over yourself.

  15. I always have the same thought about these televised Amber Alerts: If they drive through my living room, I'll make sure to give you a call. Then again, if anyone drives through my living room, I'll be giving you a call.

  16. Thanks for sharing. I particularly enjoyed reading the comments. I have Comcast Cable in Baltimore, MD and you do not hear anyone from here complaining about said amber alert. It does not matter if it was in CA. If a child goes missing America has the right to know!
