KTVU ND Rosenthal was Under Fire at Indy Station on Questionable Homeless 'Story'

Lee Rosenthal, the beleaguered News Director at KTVU, under fire for the Asiana Airline pilot name gaffe, is no stranger to controversy.

In 2011, Rosenthal was ND at an Indy station that did a story exploiting the city's homeless.

Rosenthal has been mum lately, (wonder why), and as usual, did not comment for this story.

As the investigation continues into Namegate, the situation remains fluid. Outside of the four people fired over the brouhaha, there's relative calm, although I'm hearing that there's a decent chance that more heads might roll.

Rosenthal has held a lower profile than usual over in Jack London Square. Senior staffers tell me there's considerable strain with the rank and file over NameGate. This is one of the  the main reasons.

This hasn't helped either.

  1. I give him a Pass. You can not say anything about the Sacred cow Homeless in this Country 80% of which choose that life style. I am sure KTVU Cox will find a way to get rid of him at some point. I am sure they have sank some cash into him, They just need to get a return in the Investment first.

  2. What do you mean by "mum lateley"?
Was he not mum (un-mum?) before?

  4. Love you Richie, but I'm with Drive By on this. Rosenthal had a decent reputation before this. You said so yourself. Be careful. You seem to have a bias against people who don't give you quotes.

  5. I was in Indianapolis when that happened. I don't think anyone would have even seen the story if Jon Stewart hadn't done something. Recall it airing on a weekend. Everyone laughed, but wasn't that big a deal.

    2. A tiger never changes its stripes.

When the homeless story aired, Rosenthal said, there was no bad intent. When the KTVU pilot story aired, there was no bad intent.

He's gotta get some new quotes.

  6. I recall Namegate airing on a Friday (traditionally known as the day where news will die) and it also went nowhere.

  7. 4:51 is a disgruntled former crazy employee who was fired by Lee, everyone knows who she is, huge grudge. Some here in Indy did like him, he made the station better and gave a lot of us our jobs. The homeless story was dumb but that reporter is as stupid as they come and got blown out only to somehow get a job in Chicago. And 4:51 whose name starts with an A - it is beyond obvious she is behind a lot of the Lee bashing as she references her time in ohio and the midwest - going after his wife is a low blow, she quit the last place station to do PR, if you're going to attack him and his wife, don't hide behind anonymous.

    1. I'm not the woman you accuse of writing the shit about Lee Rosenfuck but I agree with her. That guy is a midwest rube. Looks like an idiot too. This is the Major Leagues buddy.

  9. Rosenthal is a lot of things, but he is not a journalist. He pushed the Indy station to be first at the expense of accuracy. He didn't care. He was more concerned with promoting his so called accomplishments. He's way in over his head in SF and it shows.

  11. Does anyone know of a link or other source to watch that Indy WXIN video on the homeless talent? I think it was dubbed "homeless idol."

  13. Just read the article in the Chronicle. THIS THING IS FAR FROM OVER. So someone who apparently saw the thing before it went to air and helped pronounce one of the names GETS TO KEEP THEIR JOB?!?!? Are you kidding me? What a joke. In the meantime they decide to boot someone who wasn't even directly involved in it. Yeah, that's logic for you. Never going to watch channel 2 again.

    1. I told Lieberman about this a week ago. The M@R "article" doesn't tell the whole story. In fact, the person they're talking about was the EP of the day. The script was presented not as a..."hey, you're Chinese, how does one pronounced Fuk?" The script was rather presented as a part of her job...to APPROVE the script as a whole and have it printed for air. She was the last and final for air...the EP of the day and she is still employed at KTVU.
