FRIDAY WIRE
For a change I want to know about the weather. Why is it so damn hot outside? Periodically, we get lengthy heat waves but we know in short time that the fog is eventually coming. Not so this week as we've been schfitzing for more than a week with 100 degree temps forecast for the weekend. Beats 117 in Vegas and 128, (dear God), in Death Valley.
Paging Mike Pechner.
*Mystery: Where's KCBS' Stan Bunger? He's been gone for the week. Not on vacation.
*Alex Bennett, Bay Area broadcast veteran of the FM terrain and just jettisoned out of Sirius Satellite in NY, begins a 2-hour podcast this Monday from 7-9 AM, PT Here's the link if you'd care to listen.
Bennett was always worth a listen in the 80's and 90's in the Bay Area on the old KMEL and "The Quake--KQAK), even if he had an ego the size of Mt. Rushmore and enough baggage to fill AT&T Park. Bennett was responsible for the comedy revolution in the Bay Area and his broadcasts, notably the "Breakfast with Bennett" was a PR boom for comedy clubs and comedians alike.
But like most mercurial radio hosts, Bennett had several issues with radio bosses and it usually didn't end well.
*Those of you that may have noticed that there was significant less items in the blog this week because simply stated, there was nothing to talk about. The 9-Noon Knibber stiff is such a flat-out buffoon I could write endlessly but I don't want to spoil the party just yet.
*I raised 6 kids and have a family and paid off my first wife therefore I'm royalty. Just shut the hell up. And as for your betting fool--the guy who has the personality of a kumquat, keep kissing and sniffing, suit whore.
*The KRON weather chick at night should stick to predicting the weather and concentrate less on gossip with the bloated one. Maybe she thinks she's suddenly Evelyn Taft. Keep doodling at 1001 Van Ness, yenta.
*Yeah, I watched the KPIX safety program on the Bay Bridge. Can you say softie?
She actually looks uncomfortable when he tries to engage her in conversation, even though she probably knows more about hockey than he does!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it so damn hot outside? Rich asks.
ReplyDeleteMust be global warming.
"I share your vision." Sincerely, Al Gore's pimp.
DeleteLess than an hour before another Rich Rant! It's Rich Rant Friday! Woooooooop!
ReplyDeleteAnother episode in how to reinvent the radio. Nice!
Thanks Mr. Marconi. I agree. Woooooop!
DeleteWho will be "schmuck-o" today?
ReplyDeleteYou're a good start.
DeleteIt's God's way of punishing Rich for being so condecending without the talent to back it up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary's intern.
DeleteOne thing we know about the 9 2 noon radman he is out 4 one person the radman just ask damon bruce.
ReplyDeleteThe KPIX bridge program was cotton candy. Empty calories. It looked great and had all the usual suspects making all the expected noises. It told us nothing of substance that we did not already know. It did not answer any questions. All we heard was that the problem is being studied by several independent panels and that the panels will issue reports sometime. We were not told what the Bay Area News Group reported the next day: meetings of the panels will be secret and not open to the press or public. The program could easily have been condensed into a 1:45 reporter package.
ReplyDeleteI checked Phoenix on my accuweather phone app yesterday. 117 today with a sun icon, tomorrow is projected to be 120 with a maxed out thermometer icon. Really? 117 is tolerable but 120 becomes a health hazard?
ReplyDeleteLocally, it was raining a couple days ago and that seems more news worthy.
I'm in the A/C biz and it's the same thing every year. It hits 82 and people carry on like wet cats. Everybody has some special circumstance that they feel should place them at the front of the line. NO SOUP FOR YOU!
Not familiar with Alex Bennett. I've heard of him, seen posters and pink page articles about him, but never felt drawn to tune in. Still, he sounds interesting, even like an original of sorts. Would it be fair to say Bennett has been to Rowdy Radio (my description) what Keith Obermann was to Lib News Networks? Talented, sometimes even brilliant, but not known to play well with others?
ReplyDeleteThere are two things that keep me interested in tuning to Jackie Bennett's forecasts every night! I must agree with a previous poster, when she engages the bloated one she has the face of a hostage with a knife to her back. She seems uncomfortable and ready to laugh at any of Radnich's "jokes". Still I'm smitten by her. Is she done with that army dude? I forgive her for her lack of taste in men. I'm waiting in the wings...
ReplyDeleteStan Bunger has been on vacation.....he's back on air this morning. He's been in France.
