SF Radio March '13 Ratings

KQED, KCBS and KOIT lead the pack.

KGO tanks; KNBR without the Giants is, well, KNBR. And "The Game" doesn't break a 1 rating.

Here's the full numbers.

*Again, we remind you, as always, these figures are "beauty-contest" numbers--advertisers don't use this list, but it is a good barometer to see trends in Bay Area radio.

  1. KKSF is now ahead of KSFO and inching closer to KGO.

  2. I think the first time they have had a 2 share.

  3. Wonder how dumping Len and adding nothing else other than another hour of more of the same from Gil will affect KKSF ratings next month. In the Sunday Chron pink section, Ben Fong-Torres had a comment about Len, quoting Len as saying KKSF's reason for releasing him was for them to go for more news. At the same time, they changed from calling themselves Newstalk 910 to Talk 910. Peculiar change if their desire is to be a news station. Do they really know what they want? I still wish Gil would devote at least an hour of his expanded show now to calls. If Tom Sullivan, Alan Colmes, etc. can get callers, I don't accept the reasoning that people are too busy during those afternoon hours to call in. Everyone's schedule is different, and there are plenty of people listening who can call -- now more than ever with most people having 24/7 access to a phone (not like the old days where you had to be home to call). Please, Gil....

  4. I agree Gil should have an opportunity to take more calls. Gil is excellent with callers. First, he serves up the facts about what he wants to discuss, usually asking an expert or two to chime in. Then he allows all callers, callers who agree or disagree, and to give the callers enough free-reign to say what they wants to say, but not to drone on and on. It's a shame Gil is scheduled during drive time when a lot of folks can't call. KKSF would serve its own interests better if it placed Gil in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon. And hire John Rothmann for a 3-4 hours daily show. With Gil and John, if then KKSF focussed on left center hosts, eliminating air time for the right wind demogogues, KKSF could well end up in the top 3 of the rating chart by this time next year. To reach #1 though, they'd need some power and antenna improvements to broaden their broadcast reach.

  5. How is a 2.6, 2.6, 2.6 share for KGO a tanking? Surely it's a holding steady or if you prefer to be cynical, going nowhere.

  7. "advertisers don't use this list"

What list DO advertisers use and why aren't those numbers made public?

  8. The KSFO morning show needs to be revamped. Brian Sussman is a nice guy, but I think he is out of his league hosting a morning radio show. Melanie Morgan makes a good co-host, but her socially moderate views do not mesh well with Sussman's religious conservatism. And Katie Green needs to go to the FM side of the dial and hang out with No Name and the rest of the LIVE 105 Gen-X'ers; she just doesn't belong on AM Talk, where much of the audience is over 50.

  9. 95.7 The Game is CLUELESS, how much longer can they keep hemorrhaging?

  10. Brian Sussman is NOT a nice guy. He is a hateful putz and very unfunny. His show sucks. Morgan is shrill and annoying, together they are toxic

  11. I'm listening to Monte and he's stating KGO is "Live and Local" but I'm coming back from Oakland airport on Friday night, after the two bombers have been captured, and here's KGO broadcasting a press conference which was broadcast earlier in the day stating the suspects had YET to be captured. "Live and Local"?? Oh, it wasn't LOCAL!! That's the ticket!
