Mark Levin Show on KSFO: GOP Right-Wing Groundhog Day Radio

Mark Levin likes to yell and scream a lot. Occasionally, he makes some sense and his ranting provides for thought-provoking radio, but often times he just says the same thing over and over, show after show. (He's heard here on KSFO from 3-6 PM).

Levin uses the word, "tyranny" on his program at least a hundred times. He also detests President Obama, which is his right, but you'd have to figure that a guy who is so revolted at everything Obama stands for could find a more creative device to show his displeasure.

Instead, Levin resorts to screaming and yelling with callers who dare try to offer any form of disagreement with usual banal and self-serving charades that only further enhance his "Groundhog Day" style. His program hits on a multitude of "props" to "our great military" and sets off glaring innuendos that make it seem as if Mr. Obama is not liked by our military leaders, among other things, (ObamaCare, Immigration, The Teleprompter, etc). Of course, Levin's boring, right-wing schtickofest doesn't come out and say it like that but the inferences are clear.

I've said many times that as long as any form of radio is entertaining, I'd listen, case in point, Michael Savage, who doesn't deliver the same old content and whose stray off politics and prances into other forms of daily life the least to do with politics, catches my fancy.

Levin is just the opposite. He panders to the old-guard GOP who, not coincidentally, have lost the last two elections and whose "base" has yet to figure out that Ronald Reagan is long gone and a new world has emerged. Levin can throw out verbal darts like "liberal", "tyranny" and "fascist" all he wants, and even if it were repetitive, which it is, could at least be entertaining. It isn't.

  3. I heard the promos for this idiot on KSFO and that was more than enough for me. Savage makes the same type of over the top commentary for a segment or two (Obama the dictator, Communist, Socialist etc.) but at least he pulls back and talks about other subjects. Rush, Levine and Hannity regurgitate the same garbage over and over and over and over again. Boooring!

    1. Rich Lieberman's "Lieberman Live" always has the best guests, denizens of the Bay Area media plus a few surprises. Why bother listening to these boring nationally syndicated radio talk shows when we can listen to the real deal: The Rich Lieberman Show.

    2. 4:11, 4:38 and 5:04 are so right, both about Levin, Rush and Hannity, scary to think their ratings are huge, not sure about Levin, but Hannity and Rush have huge ratings, what is more scary is a lot of people who listen to them, take their word as gospel, and do not ever get another point of view, it is sad, but also scary.

    3. Let me guess...you listen to Fitz and Brooks instead?

    4. Don't know who Fitz and Brooks is. I listen to Gil, not as much as I use to, Ronn Owens, Tom Sullivan, Armstrong and Getty, Bill Press, miss Gene Burns and John Rothman, a variety of other hosts on the week-end, Barbara Simpson, Pat Thurston others. Like Tom Sullivan even though he is conservative, he is polite, and let callers speak, even if he disagree with them.

    2. Obviously, 5:05 has some unresolved, pent-up anger issues with Mark Levin. Take a few potent tranquilizers and a few deep breaths.

    3. When is LIEBERMAN LIVE coming back to KOMY? Have you been replaced by the ETHAN BEARMAN SHOW?

  5. I agree with you Rich, but you forgot to mention the name calling. If a caller dares to disagree with Levin, he often resorts to referring to the caller with words like "moron" "idiot", etc. He doesn't like to get into an actual intelligent discussion.

Regarding the GOP hard on for Reagan, you're right about them not recognizing the world has changed, but they also don't realize that if Reagan were to miraculously reappear and were to get into politics today, he'd have to run as a democrat, 'cause he raised taxes a number of times, and today's GOP has no room for someone like that.

  6. @5:05 must be Mark himself! LOL. Not only is he the broadcaster, he's also the poster posing as a concerned listener.

  7. it is radio...i am listening...vibrations count...

and the tone of his voice is just awful. I don't mind Mark, he's no different than anybody else who voted for Bush twice who, btw, are no different than anybody who voted for Obama twice.

    Y'all just don't get it.

  8. Levin is a brilliant man, Constitutional lawyer, patriot, and does the most substantive radio talk show in the business. Which of course makes him offensive to bed wetting liberals. Read a book low information liberals. Start with Liberty and Tyranny by Levin.

  9. Mark Levin's show is awful. The ratings prove it. It's merely a clearing house for national ads. He's not as bad as Hannity, but it's really close. I'm not conservative but I know what good is.

  10. Wow 5:05, it sounds as if you have some serious anger issues. Why don't you take a chill pill fella?

As far as Rich's take on this right wing retread, I couldn't agree more with his assessment.

There are way too many of these Tea Party apologists on the air and I can't understand why. I guess it's because they sound more 'entertaining' since they yell and scream a lot, and some pea-brained fools find that entertaining.

But what have they got to be angry about? Their party and their guys had their chances for years and they blew it!

And all of this nonsense about the liberal media? FYI, companies such as Infinity, Cumulus, Fox, Clear Channel and Comcast are NOT run by politically 'liberal' executives. That's one of the reasons they hire these bloviating wind-bags who are all trying to sound like their hero, Rush Limbaugh.

  11. Mark Levin: a powder keg of angry energy and as your buddy Michael Savage says, a voice that sounds like "Groucho Marx with a hysterectomy." Lieberman Live stands head and shoulders above Mark Levin. You're the best thing on Bay Area radio, Rich, bar none. Get used to it, but don't gloat over it. Your best moments are when you "take the gloves off," like you did with the pathetic Ronn Owens.

  12. Rich: I'd like you to write a similarly critical review of your own radio talk show. We'd all like to see just how clearly you can look at yourself in the mirror and face the truth. Are you up to it? Assuming you don't censor this post, that is.

  15. I classify myself as conservative, leaning a little right of center. For the record, I am registered as "non affiliated." I can tolerate Rush Limbaugh, I enjoy Michael Reagan, and I do find the Michael Savage show to be entertaining (even though I don't always like his style). I don't listen to Sean Hannity because he just makes me angry and I also don't like Mark Levine because, even though I may agree with some of his political leanings, I don't like how he comes across on the air. You can get your point across a whole lot better if you're not yelling all the time. My solution with all these talkers would be to "stop complaining about what's not right. If you don't like it, be part of the solution." The GOP lost because they forgot about a whole group of us who are neither left nor right. We're somewhat in the center and neither group fits. It would be nice to have someone like a John Rothmann, who although a little left leaning, knows a TON about both sides and will listen to and respond in a nice way to other people who may not always agree with him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @5:05 PM That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it, but there are many who strongly disagree with you. Your rant is so immature I can only guess you must be in junior high. Even though I disagree with everything you said, I would not have bothered to reply had you stopped at "Mark is the best" although I would be interested in knowing what it is you like about him. And the statements about Rich's radio show & him personally are inappropriate in this thread.

  17. Levin has the most obnoxious nasal voice...I think there should be a cartoon about the world's tiniest, angriest talking penis, and Levin should do the voice work. Interestingly, the only person who is worse than Levin is Brian Sussman, who actually subs for Levin from time to time. Brian Sussman is the absolute worst.

  18. Angry white men on the radio and in media wear me down. Same crap over and over, day after day. Limbaugh, Levin, O.Reilly, Hannity, Jones, LaPierre, Boehner, etc.....yadayadayada....

They are yelling or preaching to a smaller audience all the time. The country is changing and they don't get it! They don't speak to minorities, immigrants, people less fortunate, women or young people. Actually as an angry white man myself I find they don't speak to me anymore either.

    1. as opposed to angry non-white men blaming all white people for their own issues.... I agree those guys you mention lean towards the right... most other news or political talk shows most definately lean left, as do you. There are more conservative leaning people in this country than you realize.

  20. 9:14 AM: Would you say that Rich Lieberman, the prolific writer of this media blog and host of his own radio talk show, "Lieberman Live," is one of the "angry white men?"

    * KGO Firings Redux *
After the firing of KGO alums Len Tillem, John Rothmann and Ed Baxter from Newstalk 910, now I’m wondering - should we be panicking?

Please, Len and Gil and John, stay on the air and we will all have to find a way to keep you there. (Hint: Call MZ at KOMY/KSCO).

Rich: Whatever became of you? You've been absent from KOMY for quite some time now, apparently replaced by MZ with the ETHAN BEARMAN SHOW. Whatever you do, don't go back to blogging those inane posts about which TV station has the hottest weather girl.

So... Should we be panicking? Well, there's a glimmer of hope my friends as long as Gil Gross remains on 910 - now with an extra hour (thanks to the pink slip for Len Tillem). It's terrific to have Gil on air locally is at the top of his game, don't you think?

    SAVE LOCAL TALK RADIO!!!

    1. Honest opinion; Rich can be an angry white man when he is ripping local personalities. I am not much on that stuff. I enjoy his behind the curtain peaks he provides. Never been much on mean spirited pokes from anyone.

Having said that I really enjoy his radio gig and don't find him acting like an "Angry white man" at all on there. He is a softer gentler Rich with a touch of humanity seeping through at times! *-)

Speaking of old men, my mother commented the other day "Why did they elect an old man Pope; they need someone young who is in touch with the realities of today, not some old guy close to death!" I said it was old men electing one of their own. Old guys feel comfortable with old guys and angry white men feel comfortable with angry white men. Cheers! from an angry white man.

  21. Levin is as caught up in himself almost as much as Rich and Karel. The problem is, Levin has censored these comments from his blog and show, too, like Rich does so he doesn't have to face fact. Amazing how Karma works. "Don't do as I think, do as I spew." Nice going Rich. You are like Levin, a born hack for talk radio for an 800 watt station in Watsonville and "around the world on the internets." The airwaves are at least a little cleaner without you being on them. Censor on.

  22. While Levin's tone can be harsh and impatient at times, I believe he expresses a passion for our country that is being questioned by those who want to "fundamentally transform it". He is a brilliant constitutional expert and supporter of free market capitalism. These are in short supply in the "Man Child" White House and in the Demonrat Congress. His perspective is appealing and his show is entertaining. The numbing academic veneer of the few remaining wrong minded liberal hosts, those at MSNBC (more stupid nonsense by creeps) and NPR will never measure up to the enthusiasm and directness of people like Rush, Hannity, Levin and to a lesser degree Savage. Long live Levin to challenge the failing Socialist-Marxist ideology of this administration. Wake up low information Americans!

  24. Hey Political Science Professor - Exactly how did the right wing of the GOP lose the last two presidential elections? Think Romney & McCain were the choice of the right wing? You're as ridiculous as you claim Levin is. I guess you'll be catching up to Levin in listeners any time now, right? You can't even keep your shitty, pay-for-play show on a three-watt station. Who's this week's sponsor, Chico's Bail Bonds?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, I listen to Levin on my drive home, just to keep my blood pressure up so I don't fall asleep driving through traffic on 680.

He's basically out of touch with the population of the country...can't see that his position-and that of the Tea Sippers-is too extreme for even republicans to want to follow. If he disagrees with a caller, he insults them, then cuts them off...too afraid to listen and possibly learn something. If you're not goose stepping with the tea sippers, you're not worth him talking to you.

Of course, Levin is basically in love with Governor Quitter(Sarah Palin) and can't see how unfit for office she really is.

BTW, the EIB on Limpaw's microphone stands for "Excrement In Broadcasting."

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, lots of vitriol. I would listen to talk radio more if I didn't find it tiresome after a few minutes. Either the host is playing broadcasting games by trying to be provocative or screaming ("great radio"), or the callers are sycophants or just plain inarticulate. Yes, walk me through the issues, enlighten me, but be good communicators who don't turn off people with opposing views. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The concept of civil discourse in this country is now antique. People would rather yell over each other like a bunch of whining, angry school kids than make an effort to listen in a polite matter and then debate.

Again, I know it sounds repetitive, but this is just another symptom of a sick, out of touch society. There are so many 'extremists' on the air, because in the words of the brilliant radio consultants, (most of whom failed miserably as Program Directors), "people want entertainment."

If I want to listen to a couple of people yelling I can walk down the street and stand outside the door or a certain couple I knew and hear them having another one of their typical arguments. I don't need to listen to that dreak on the radio. That's the biggest reason that I DON'T listen to the radio anymore. It's a wasteland of noise and nonsense, and that's really a shame!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Levin "panders to the old-guard GOP"? Really Rich? Do you even listen to his show? He does nothing but rail AGAINST the "old-guard GOP"! Perhaps you should contact his producer, tell him who are, and ask if you could interview Mark on the air, or be a guest on the show! I'd love to hear him intellectually tear you to shreds. Mark Levin is far more intelligent and accomplished than you, or any of the pseudo-intellectual liberals on this page, and everywhere else that hate him.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If he is so intelligent why does he find it necessary to scream like a raving, foaming at the mouth lunatic? If Levin has any balls he would invite Robert Reich on his show. They're the same height and Reich would bust his ass!

  29. I don't know why so called intelligent people have to rave and rant, name call, talk over people and otherwise behave in a way, that most of us was brought up to believe is rude. and unacceptable behavior. I just don't get it, nor do I get how these people get listerners and ratings, no matter what side of the political spectrum they are on. I like polite, reasonable curtious hosts. They are not all that easy to find, unfortunately.
