Cluadine Wong can and does indeed SMILE on KTVU's Weekend MO2

Claudine Wong has a legion of fans. I'm one of them.

I have marveled at her straight-forward news delivery but often chided her for her lack of emotion, lack of a simple laugh every now and then. Smile, Claudine, smile!

WE INTERUPT THIS POST TO BRING YOU 'BREAKING NEWS'

As I watched KTVU's weekend 'Mornings on 2', not only was Wong smiling A LOT more, but downright almost laughing and chirping. It was a nice detour away from the usual placid-looking woman anchor who at times appeared to act as if she was auditioning for a CSPAN morning gig.

Two things we can deduce from this:

1. The power of 415 Media, (it's OK, I'll gladly accept a MO2 coffee cup and you all at KTVU just saved another dime from the consultants.)

2. Smiling and showing some genuine emotion will not rock the boat and lose viewership. Viewers want to see news, sure, but it also helps to see a popular anchor develop a personality too. We appreciate Claudine Wong's new vibe and hope she keeps it.

  1. I hope Christine Craft doesn't read what you wrote here. Women should not be forced to smile for the amusement of men.

  2. Its the bay area. If your happy and you know it- smile. Otherwise,do the power anchor woman for Fox news. Just make sure you have long legs that look great in micro skirts.

  3. Sorry Rich, you're wrong on this. Claudine Wong has been smiling and acting kind of perky for a long time. She may have been influenced by you, I don't know. But this is not a recent development.

  4. Its sort of the Anchor woman's dilemma isn't it? Be beautiful and intelligent, yet don't come across as talking down to the dumb men. Be funny and a bit self deprecating but confident. Girly, but not immature. Knowledgeable..but not old. And have a models face x with the all American cheerleader. Large boobs are what men want, but not in their anchorwoman. Like the hot Soccer MILF body..perky.
    That's all we ask.

  6. "I made CW smile and giggle, give me a coffee cup"... big deal.

Shoot, I'll spring for a whole god damned coffee maker if you can rid the bay area news casts of Clark and the zombie weather lady at 5 that won't go away.

  7. Rich, your propensity to censor polite, but slightly critical, comments is objectionable and generates a great deal of ill will.

Coming off of one of your periodic meltdowns, perhaps you could stick to your own commitment to publish all civil comments. Distorting the content of feedback to advance your own agenda is dishonest.

  8. C'mon, this isn't rocket surgery. She's smart enough to know to be serious when delivering the news, smiling and cheerful during the more relaxed format of the weekend morning show. She doesn't need your help. After all, she is the working professional.

  9. I don't really care if she smiles or not, but I wish she would stop mumbling.

  10. I hope that Claudine becomes the lone KTVU newscaster 5PM-6PM Monday through Friday. Or a new time slot Monday through Friday from 4PM-5PM. In either time slot, claudine will increase the ratings on KTVU. She is very bright and it shows.

  11. Claudine is brilliant and a hard working, hard-nosed reporter. She is especially good on court cases including Scott Peterson's and Susan Polk's murder trials. She's a great talent and I am really glad I got to work with her for so many years. She's earned every promotion she's received (though some were long overdue). Cheers to Claudine!

  12. I agree with Mark. I worked with Claudine for just about 6 years and launched MO2 Weekend with her and Mibach. She is the nicest lady and as an anchor/reporter - she's damn good at her job, if not one of the best in the business. I wish she were anchoring down here in LA... Speaking of which, it's about time for Rich to start Lieberman323. Plenty of material (and on-air bikini contests leading into drive-by shooting stories). I'm sure you could replace Tommy's Joynt with Canter's Deli.
