Jones-Morgan Debate and Me and 415 Media

I blasted Piers Morgan over his being eaten alive by Alex Jones on CNN. We all know what took place on the air Monday night if you saw the video.

And get this! I happen to agree with Morgan's viewpoint. My stand on gun violence and gun control is quite known. I've railed long and hard that the status quo isn't working and that we need to examine our gun laws and the availability of assault weapons that kill a lot of people and kids. The people in the Central Coast who like their guns have berated me because of my stand on radio.

As for Alex Jones, as I have said on radio, we don't agree on most issues. Ditto Michael Savage. But they both have a passionate following and for that, I tend to write and talk about them from time to time. And no matter how you feel on the gun control issue, Jones simply ate Morgan alive. Moreover, as I pointed out, the whole circus was pre-arranged by CNN in an attempt to get ratings for Morgan who hardly anybody watches. I wasn't defending Jones. I was lambasting Morgan who was in on the circus as was CNN.

And another thing: Yes, Talk Host Team IS an advertiser on this site. And yes, Michael Zwerling, the owner of the radio station I do a show on, owns Talk Host Team. Alex Jones is a part of that venture. That doesn't influence my opinion one way or the other and if you heard me, I have said as much in the past. There's no conflict of interest. I've ripped Jones but acknowledge his ardent fan base. Pretty clear.

This site is independent of the radio site. But I use it to promote the radio show. And yes, advertising, combined with limited reader donations, make this site possible. For the record.

  1. You are always talking from both sides of your mouth. On one side you attack Morgan for not having ratings, on the other you attack him for trying to get ratings. Why don't you stop obsessing over Piers and instead expose the quackery of all the infomercials on KOMY and KSCO?

    1. I can only control my show. Maybe you should change the dial?

    2. No. If you have the right to pilage your callers and posters, or worse -- censor them -- because you don't like the criticism, too bad Rich. If you had more professionalism, fact and less ego, things would be different. You're not a bad guy -- just an untrained and obviously desperate need to be on the radio unprepared. If you dish it out, Rich --- right or wrong --- you've got to be able to take it.

    3. Careful what you say here Rich. You may get what you ask for. Can your host station, KOMY, a 1,000-watt station in Santa Cruz that airs mostly infomercials and your program, with all its "gremlins," afford to lose even one listener?

  2. I cannot believe you are this dense but Piers Morgan is anti gun. What better way to underscore his point than to put a foamer on the air and let him loose. I think this guy did more to hurt the pro gun lobby than anything Morgan could say. I don't watch Morgan. I watched this clip on some website or other. I don't know what exactly you are blasting unless you are pro gun and this nut hurts your cause.

    1. No, I'm actually anti-gun--guess you really don't know me. Just because Morgan is "anti-gun" doesn't make him a savior. I'm simply not a fan of his and his network has become a joke.

  3. Rich,

Just stating you have no conflict of interest doesn't make it so. Your financial entanglement with "Talk Host Team" gives you an obvious motivation to treat Alex Jones differently than say, Joe Blow. You seem to suggest because you've said some good and bad things about Jones, that proves you are unbiased.

Sorry Rich, that's not how it works in the real world. The person with a conflict of interests doesn't get to decide whether he's really being fair or not. That's why Judges who have a financial interests on one side or the other are excluded from the case.

And how come you seriously criticize CNN for trying to increase ratings when your blog has become a nonstop promotion for your fledgling radio program?

    1. F and B:

      Do this.

If you think that way, simply don't read me or listen to me, it's that simple.

    2. He makes a good point Rich. You should conduct yourself, run your blog, and say only things that every person agrees with : /

    3. Well said and spot on, F & B. Rich shows his colors by just trying to blow you off because he has no comeback except "don't read me, don't listen to me." Rich is dangerous with his ethics. That's why I read and listen. Good job and I like your posts.

    4. Rich,

Your petulant response at 4:48 fails to address the issues I raised. That is:

      1) Because your financial connections to Team Host Talk create a conflict of interest, you can't negate the appearance of impropriety by merely proclaiming neutrality.

      2) It's ridiculous to criticize others (CNN) for trying to boost ratings when you constantly do the same thing.

Simply responding, if you don't like it, don't read it, suggests you really have no other defense. I thought you aspired to intelligent discourse.

  4. Rich, as another person pointed out, you missed the point. Morgan let Jones run circles around him and froth at the mouth to prove his central point: the fringe of the pro gun debate is chock full 'o nuts. That segment has gone viral on YouTube with worldwide circulation. Yes, Piers is getting publicity, but in earlier shows he fiercely debated pro-gun guests and went toe-to-toe with them. He clearly sat back and let Jones be Jones. Piers is a wanker, but you're flat wrong on this: he let Jones prove his point.

  5. "Assault weapons kill a lot of people and kids", really Rich? What is an "assault weapon"? If you'd check the FACTS, more people are killed by assailants wielding hammers than are killed by people with so-called "assault weapons". That is a FACT, from the FBI crime stats.

    1. You're a complete idiot, 8:08, and exactly the reason most people hate gun nuts like you. Not only do you not do any research, but you make up a complete lie and THEN accuse Rich of being the liar! Typical. Just to educate your sorry ass (and embarrass you for being such a loser), here are the real statistics: firearms accounted for 67.8 percent of U.S. homicides last year, several times more than the next category of weapons (knives at 13.4 percent). Your claim about hammers made me laugh out loud: ALL blunt instruments, of which hammers are only a small subset, accounted for less than 4 percent of all homicides (3.9). Since the truth doesn't back you, better to lie, right? And just hope decent people don't check up on what you're saying. Even a quick check of the Justice Bureau's web site would have revealed the actual numbers, but everyone can read a little more about it and check the real stats here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/baseballbats.asp

    2. Ohhhhh, big tough guy! Maybe you should learn how to read, you keyboard commando. You're the loser. I can't say what I really want to say because Rich probably wouldn't allow it, but I'll give it an (abbreviated) try, go F yourself. If you could comprehend, I was referring to so called "assault weapons", not all firearms in general.I really don't care if some internet loser like you, posting from his mommy's basement hates me, you p*ssy!

  6. so the point of having a show is not to get ratings?

what exactly was prearranged? did the cnn producers tell jones to act like a loon?

did the cnn producers tell jones to post this vid on youtube following the interview, which provides good evidence that the man is both paranoid and certifiable?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0sE9hAXXB4

    you are really reaching

why dont you get jones on your show, and lets see if he can go for even 5 minutes without spewing some insane conspiracy theory

  7. Instead of defending your position you tell people to turn the dial? You're not coming off very well in this instance Rich. How the hell would you have wanted Morgan to react? You keep criticizing him but offer no specifics as to what you'd have done in his place. Was he supposed to try to out shout the raving lunatic? At least Piers had the balls to have Jones on. Pussies like your idol Michael (Weiner) Savage or Rush NEVER allow a different point of view on their shows.

  9. Why spend so much time harping on Piers Morgan? Is it because he's suddenly gained some traction with progressives because of his stance in favor of stronger gun regulation?

His ratings are in the basement. Few Americans watch CNN any more; fewer still have a clue who Piers Morgan is. CNN reaches over 99 million and on a good night Piers Morgan doesn't even have 800,000 viewers, which is a minute fraction of the potential viewing audience, according to tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/.

  10. Don't bet against Piers Morgan. He is highly intelligent and it was a brilliant move to bring Crazy Alex on his show. It was a classic martial arts move.
