Ron Escarsega is your new KGO/KSFO Opps MGR

The new and latest Opp Mgr at KGO Radio, from a station source:

Ron Escarsega, formerly APD of KABC/Los Angeles, moves in as SF Operations Manager of All News KGO and News/Talk KSFO.

Oh happy day.

Don't know much about the guy other than KABC has been in a freefall itself. The LA people I have spoken with have told me Escarsega is a good company man. Working for Cumulus, that might be good and bad depending on your perspective.

This much I know: If I were him, I would rent a place first and not consider buying.

  1. A Latino in charge of local media??? I thought I would have died first.
Like I always say- we can be as talented or lousy as any other human being. Just give us a chance to prove it. And the media corporations have been slow to listen.

    1. Is he a Latino? He might be Portuguese...

    2. 1142..I should have said IF he's a Latin. You might be right..I've told people myself over years that Portugese names can be taken as Latino. "Silvera" is a big one mixed up.
I stand possibly corrected. Hopes were high..

    3. He could even be of Spanish descent. They have been known to wander outside their border from time-to-time.

Tony likes that statement, rather than getting the job to round out the EOE profile regardless of ability/inability.

    5. On ch2 just a minute ago..California is considering what is a "Latino" since many groups with ethnic names say they have no Latin roots, they claim white. And its true. Charlie (Sheen) Estevez,Dave Navarro, and a few others who look Latino and have those surnames..say they aren't.
      So now ya know.

  2. Better yet Rich, I think he should sleep on his cousins couch and not even take the time to do a rental. I think that would be good.

    1. Yeah and he talked to his sources in LA. He is a good company man. Duh, who did you think they were going to hire a non-company man!

  5. Here's an "EXCLUSIVE" for you: With all the changes/structuring of Cumulus in the past 12 months internally, RON ESCARSEGA assumed the responsibilities of PD (after Jack Silver was let go), managed the day-to-day operations of KABC programming with ease, and was the best damn boss I've had yet in my infantile 7-year-career in the LA Radio Market. He loves this industry and has been a better "programmer"/APD than any PD KABC has had in quite a prolonged number of years. Say what you may about Cumulus and the state of corporate radio, Ron executes whatever task is asked of him with precision to succeed and a strong-work-ethic. Man. Is this blog a Hater's-Convention-Best-Seller or just angry ex-radio-execs? [GOOD LUCK, RON. CUMULUS IS DAMN LUCKY TO HAVE YOU]

  6. Radnich was given a surprise b-day party at the end of the KRON newscast. 63 by Wiki,if true. Lets just say..like many that age,I got the feeling he would have preferred letting it go by unnanounced..
