The Waffle House is An institution in parts of the South. Usually has kind of a "redneck" reputation with Northern Folks, I've found. It's also a place where folks just meet to drink coffee, eat waffles, or bowls of chili, and gab about what's goin' on in their lives and communities. Did ANYBODY actually think Ronn meant that comment as a racial slur? If not, then what is the big deal? Insensitive? How 'bout, hypersensitive, on some folks' part ....
I love the Waffle House "grits". Maybe that was what Ron was referring to? I vote for a local Waffle House here in Mid Michigan. Not sure that it would work in the Bay Area like Popeye's Chicken does.
You are aware, of course, that there was a story yesterday about four old guys who met in a Waffle House to plot to kill just about everybody in govmint. Them good ole boys…..
But I like everyone else's explanation. Lets truck in a fleet of Eggos and give everyone breakfast. Pour some hugs and maple syrup on that bad boy! Ya can't say "Screw the Man!" with a mouth full of syrupy goodness working its magic on your taste buds! Occupy Breakfast!!
Plus, some of them might totally have the munchies right about now.
As "back and forth/indecisive" comment above notes, he was commenting on the mayor's inability to decide whether she wants to be a mayor or an activitst; a landlord to a permanent tent city or a chief executive who upholds the city's laws; encourage employers to move to and stay in Oakland or sent them scurrying to Emreyville. Actually, a few Waffle Houses in the bay area would be a cool thing. So, I agree with Anonymous 9:54 on that one. But what gets me is that Ronn can more or less say anything he wants on the air and is never really held accountable for it. At least it has always seemed that way to me.
Dude: I don't know the details of your recent beef with Owens. I am no fan of Owens and his highly irritating "centrist" act and shameless self-promotion. However, on this issue, he's been quite reasonable and sensible and in fact, has given callers supporting the "99%'ers" a fair amount of air time without cutting them off.
Damn a Waffle House in Oakland WOULD be kinda nice
ReplyDeleteI missed that comment trying to tune in 810 on my little Sony portable and I keep getting the Spanish language channel.
ReplyDeleteI often get discounts for Waffle House but we don't have one around here. Maybe Ron can create a movement for one.

"If you've never been to a Waffle House, just imagine a gas station bathroom...that serves waffles."
